Man, I remembered earlier today about the lottery, than forgot about it. Came in to expect 7th only to see 2nd. Nice.
I don't mind if he isn't a defensive stalwart like Kopitar. A big man, who creates his own shot, and has a nose for the net is okay with me. Speaking of a big centerman who wasn't a defensive stalwart, with a big nose, and nose for the net.Byfield doesn't have anywhere near the hockey sense or defensive accumen of a Kopitar, not sure why folks use him as a comparable other than his size. He hasn't shown much of a two way game at all thus far.
He is a potentially dominant force who looks to create his own shot and uses his physical tools to exploit defenders on the rush. His set zone and cycle offense is very, very raw.
Byfield and Stutzle have the highest potential among the top ten, but Byfield is the furthest away from reaching his top potential at the moment. He has a lot of room and time to grow. He is a lottery ticket of a lottery pick - and well worth the risk at #2. If any team can give him all the time and competition he needs to fulfil his vast promise, its the Kings. Some teams would need him to hit at #2, we can be patient and nurse him along.
I'd be okay if Ottawa or even Detroit gets Laf but freakin one playoff team is going to get the 1st overall. What a freakin joke.
Folks keep saying this, but it is inaccurate.I'd be okay if Ottawa or even Detroit gets Laf but freakin one playoff team is going to get the 1st overall. What a freakin joke.

The NHL couldn't complete the season in full, so the bubble teams are given a chance to play their way in head to head instead of over the course of the last 15 or so games.
No playoff team will get the pick. Only a team that misses the playoffs will have a chance.
Going in, I would've been thrilled to stay at 4, get whoever is left between Byfield/Stutzle/Drysdale, now they get their pick of the litter. It's winning $20m instead of $100m. Not dropping is pretty good by itself.
Now I gotta find that Byfield interview on NHL radio where he talks about potentially being selected by the Kings. Anyone have a link?
