Two 7th rounders turned into a 5th when a player they like must be there. Seems funny but getting other teams to throw in 7ths all the time gives you the freedom to make minor moves to jump up and grab a pick to take a swing on a falling player you like. Very smart stuff.

Final words on Lias:
- not his fault we way overreached on him at 7OA; thought to be valued 19OAish at best
- nor that we figured despite nothing other than a motor, we hoped he'd be our version of MON's Gallagher, a guy who does no single thing well, but plays well all together

We should have traded that pick for a 2nd and a 1st the next yr, but that was too much balls to ask for in dif circumstances, and the win now crowd had not yet entirely been rebuffed

However, it is that effin ingrates fault to pull any and every stunt he made after we went out on a limb for him.
He got mins with top line Fs, mins others deserved but were denied,

Every team has a bunch of 2nd and 3rd liners they found in the draft. Rangers can’t draft top line players. Ever wonder why all our best players were traded for/ signed in FA?

Kreider is a top line player, Stepan was a top line player, JT Miller is now a top line player, Buchnevich is a top line player.

I know we never picked stars but based on where we've picked when were we supposed to? They whiffed on McIlrath obviously but that was really only the main time in the Clark era that we whiffed on a first rounder. In fact, Kreider and JT Miller in particular were smart picks and both are better than anyone taken relatively closely after them.
