Byfield played an incredibly hard game against the 67's in the playoffs last year...

Both games? Because I didn't come away with that impression after seeing him last year.

I mean, he was definitely using his size to his advantage offensively, but he didn't come across particularly aggressive or looking to initiate anything. I find it hard to use that game against him, as Sudbury was clearly over matched and he was playing frustrated, but I also don't remember him playing an "incredibly hard game".

Either way, it's worth noting that Keith didn't really develop a mean streak until later either, as his penalty minutes in junior aren't outrageous. Maybe Byfield will go through (some) of that transformation when he's forced to play against men. Certainly wouldn't expect him to start putting up consistent 100+ PIM seasons the way Keith did though

He doesnt use his teammates at all and has pretty poor vision from when i have watched him. Tries to do it all on his own I hope the sens stay away from him personally.

I'm in 100% agreement. If this kid had a brain he'd be a shoo in for a top-15 pick, but as is he's a borderline DND for me. I thought I'd see a lot more progression from him this season. Kind of feels like he is what he is at this point, which feels silly to say about an 18 year old, but he just hasn't adjusted his game in the slightest. Clearly not a talent issue here.

The Sting are also a very bad team, and he doesn't get a ton of support, but he's "leading" his team with a -34 which seems less than ideal as well.

Someone will take a chance on him on talent alone, but that hasn't been the Sens MO the last few year so I'm not overly worried.

Dorion's reaction when we win 1st overall but then he realizes he'll have to draft a skilled forward:

Some speculation on who the Sens might pick, based on loose connections and style of players.

Our head European scout is Mikko Ruutu out of Finland. Anton Lundell feels like a very Sens type of pick. I wouldn't like picking him high as our only top ten pick, but since we have two... if we draft Lafreniere and Lundell, both could be impact players within a year.

Trent Mann and the maritime connection has me thinking Dawson Mercer could be a target if we are within range. Again, he feels like a Sens type of pick. Good 200 foot player. But he's also crafty offensively.

I've talked plenty about Strumm and the Portland connection. Dorion doesn't want too many small players, so tough call on Jarvis. Cross Hanas might be one to watch in a later round.

Christian De Blois was a scout with the QMJHL Sea Dogs, but was with Shawinigan for the 2018 Q draft when they picked Mavrik Bourque 3rd overall.

Any ideas on how the draft will be impacted if the NHL decides to suspend the season in the same manner of the NBA?
I'd assume that standings as of the day of suspension would dictate the lottery odds/order.

i'm not ready to make any final picks. but if the draft was today i wouldn't be upset with byfield at 2 and rossi at 3. I know some might think rossi at 3 is a bit crazy, but there you go.

I kinda assume we're getting 4-5 so I'm not too disappointed with the result of the lottery. I think there's 7-8 players that are really really interesting for us. Anything better than 4 and 5 is gravy.

I think Drysdale is a little overrated. Not that he is bad, but the lack of top end defenceman talent in this draft is bumping up his stock.

Woke up to a 72.7% chance of Laf, By, or Stutz and two of Laf,By,Stutz,Raymond, Drysdale, and ?

No idea how we ended here with all those try hard loser points. Well done PD.

What's a loser point? There only thing I've ever been aware of is a bonus point given to a team after a tie game for winning a skills comp.

...or it becomes the Crosby draft and all 31 teams are put into the lotto.

I have a really bad feeling that's what they'll do. After all, teams have played between 68 and 71 games so far, and schedules haven't been "even" (that can't happen until the end of the season).

You know damned well if there's a way to screw over Ottawa, it's going to happen.

That seems pretty harsh... looking at the standings it wouldn’t be hard to average out the difference between two teams at 7-8th in draft order if one team played an extra game. There are lots of ways around this and I can’t see the league letting TB, STL, and BOS draft Laf, By, Stutz.

In 10-14 days reality will set in and these types of decisions a will be much easier to accept.

But the problem is, schedules don't really "balance" until the end of the season. Some teams might still have the hardest part of their schedule ahead of them, while other teams might have an easy schedule remaining. One team facing Boston, Tampa and Washington has a harder time than the team facing Florida, Buffalo an Detroit....if you see what I mean.

And it also give the NHL quite a buzz. Fans went a bit nutso back in the Crosby draft when all fan bases had a chance at landing him. I don't think the NHL would mind generating that kind of buzz again at the expense of little Ottawa and Buffalo.

But, I guess it all depends on CBA language, if they even have a contingency plan for this scenario.

All good points. The good teams are going to argue that they didn't get their just reward which is the chance to compete for the Stanley Cup. They will want some kind of recompense through the draft. This could get messy.

I ran the simulator a dozen times this morning and 4-5 came up most often. Collectively, the odds are not in our favour to win the lottery.

so i take it if junior leagues cancel their games, the sens scouts won't have as much data as they normally would for their picks. i'm sure they have a good idea of what to do with their top 2 picks but they were probably banking on some strong playoff showings to solidify their other 11.

so, i guess this is what putting pierre putting all his eggs in one basket looks like...
