As others have said, I could see Byfield dropping a spot due to Stutzle being a legit elite prospect, but I’d be very surprised if he goes lower than that.

Lafreniere
Byfield/Stutzle
Drysdale/Rossi/Raymond
Holtz/Perfetti

approximately how I view the tiers

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ottawa pick Rossi, he is small which we somewhat avoid but other than that he has literally everything we value. If we draft him, I could see him playing next year

This pretty much how I see it as well. I think for some reason that Byfield will drop to 3 and Stutzle will go 2.

man Rossi is so good. He will go high

The top 4-5 in the draft is where we should be aiming

I wonder what affect the DEL shutting down will have on Stutzle's stock? At this point, I would have to imagine that scouts have seen a good amount of him, but his performance in the playoffs could've potentially moved him up or down slightly.

Probably insignificant. Men's World Championship will be a more important stage for Stützle. And yes I expect him to be a factor. He ranked 7th in DEL in p/g among German-born forwards this year. Not sure where exactly he'll slot in the lineup, but should be a key piece for their powerplay at least.

Unfortunately I just dont think that tournament is going to happen. However I agree he would likely be playing.

I expect that, too. That's if the tournament goes ahead.

This has me wondering, assuming the tournament goes as normal, what do people think Stützle would have to do to make himself the favorite for 2nd overall?

Here are the last two games from Loko. It is a chance to see Maxim Beryozkin (#72):

Here are the last two games from SKA-1946. It is a chance to see 2nd year draft eligible Alexander Gordin (#78) and first year eligible Maxim Krovyakov (#96). I am not sure why but Marat Khusnutdinov isn't in either game.

Pretty exciting to start to play this out. Obviously if we win the lottery, it's a massive homerun with a player in AL that will combine with with Tkachuk to create an incredibly competitive culture on this team.

But even if we don't win the lottery, hopefully we get a top 3 pick, another top 10 pick, and then someone between 14-20. That will be tremendous.

One of Byfield / Stutzle
One of Perfetti / Rossi / Drysdale / Raymond / Holtz, and perhaps Quinn
One of Gunler, Lindell, Mercer, Perrault, Zary, Sanderson, Wallinder, Jarvis etc.

Obviously a center, winger and D would be the most likely scenario, but who knows with Pierre and staff.

I do foresee a few trades by Ottawa in the first two rounds as well, with so many picks. They will go after the guys they really want, as they did with Brown and others in past.

I'm having a really hard time deciding who to pick if we get 2nd overall. Byfield would be great as he projects to be a future 1C, which is probably the most valuable position, but then that kinda make L. Brown redundant IMO. I guess it all depends how they see L.Browns development because he's supposed to be our 1C of the future. Byfield is probably on the lower end of his ceiling right now too and has lots of room for his game to grow (hopefully he doesn't grow any taller haha).

What I like about Stutzle is a couple things. The guy competes like a madman and has non-stop motor. I'm not knocking Byfields compete whatsoever but if the Sens want a guy who works his ass off Stutzle fits that description. I also like Stutzle because of his game breaking ability, skill (which is something we lack immensely) and his stick handling. He's arguable on par with Lafrieniere when it comes to stick handling and he's proven this against men.

As a Sens fan these are incredible problems to have, but god damn is it stressful. I hope the scouts make the right decision.

Lines: 1LW Tkachuk - 1C Byfield - 1RW Batherson (Formenton)
2LW Balcers (Duclair) - 2C Brown (Norris) - 2RW Formenton (Batherson)

Or 1LW Tkachuk - 1C Brown - 1RW Batherson (Formenton)
2LW Stutzle - 2C Norris - 2RW Formenton (Batherson)

I expect the Worlds to be cancelled.

MAYYYYYYYYBE as an absolute floor.

I think a more accurate floor is a Keith Primeau.

Ceiling is probably a Malkin or Sundin level player.

This is the second time I've heard this Primeau comparison. I don't get it. Primeau was a real hard-nosed son of a bitch.

Would be a Senator thing if the Draft was canceled:banghead::laugh:

They wouldn't cancel it, they'd just hold it in a small venue without players present. Or, in an extreme case, with each team calling in their picks from their own office.

The total Sens thing would be for the NHL season to end early and the league to invalidate the draft placement standings because the season never finished. Change the lottery rules or something, and we somehow end up with much worse picks than we would have had with Pittsburgh and Chicago picking 1 and 2.

I've had this thought too. I think it would be hard for the league to justify this when the draft rankings were left untouched in 1995 and 2013 despite having played far fewer games.

I just watched a Rimouski game I had taped.

Lafreniere played mostly RW.

For those that see him regularly is that a normal thing? Because if he can play either wing comfortably ŕeally opens up line possibilities .

Tkachuk - C - Lafreniere

I fully expect Pittsburgh to be awarded the Stanley Cup and the first overall pick this year.

Both those seasons played to their completion. Everybody knew they would be short when they went in, and the standings were allowed to fully play out.

I was half joking, but I could see it working out badly for Ottawa if the season is cancelled before it is complete. The issue is, there are teams like New York, Toronto, etc who are all fighting for playoff spots. So when the season hasn't even concluded, how does the team justify say giving certain teams playoff picks, and certain teams those 10th-15th type lottery picks?

For example, as of today the Islanders are out of the playoffs so theoretically that is a lottery pick, but wouldn't CBJ argue that the Islanders had a better winning percentage, so CBJ should get a lottery pick instead? Even know it would only be a 1 or so percent change at Lafreniere, imagine the ramifications of the NHL ruling a certain way and one of those teams winning the top pick while another team is sour because they think they should have had the 14th or 15th overall pick instead of a non-lottery playoff pick.

That's why I could see them drafting up an entirely new one time system with the sole purpose of ruining our one and only chance at happiness.

I'm sure it would just be based on Points per game in this scenario for playoffs and draft. Would be the most logical method.
