I'll post the top-10, but I don't want to do more than that since it is behind a paywall. I highly recommend subscribing to the Athletic, especially since they have a special where it's only something like $1/month for 3 months. It usually ends up being somewhere between $30-50 for the year, and it's easily the best in-depth coverage of all of the major sports available.

Here's the top-10:

1) Brandt Clarke - RHD
2) Simon Edvinsson - LHD
3) Owen Power - LHD
4) Kent Johnson - C
5) Aatu Raty - C
6) Carson Lambos - LHD
7) Chaz Lucius - C/W
8) Dylan Guenther - LW/RW
9) Matthew Beniers - C
10) Luke Hughes - LHD

Matthew Beniers has been my personal favorite for this class over the last two years. I still don't know what to make of this draft because a lot of these kids are good, but not great prospects. The only two that stand out to me right now are Beniers and Raty, with Power and Guenther being next in line. Isak Rosen and William Eklund are also going to solidify themselves in that top-10/15 range as they progress this year.
I’m very very glad we got our top picks in 2019 and 2020 instead of 2021

we need forward talent in the system...outside the NHL our prospect depth is extremely thin at all forward positions...with greig's size he could be a few years away from the nhl and who knows what our needs might be.

if there are better guys available at 22 or someone that projects as a 2C thats great but if they like greig i'm not shying away due to being a winger cause we need depth everywhere.

Yeah, I just don't see the need for depth at LW when Panarin/Lafreniere/Kreider are locked in there for the next half decade. I also see Lemieux, Howden, Barron as NHL-ready players who belong at LW. Kravtsov plays both sides but has been more productive on the left. That’s where he’s playing in the KHL now. We need depth... at every other position.

jesus, i can barely say all three names slowly

In that case it wouldn't matter who scored, Sam would likely say "...And Lafleur puts it in!" anyways.

Man that would be fun after a few drinks.

On the sober side of things, that's also some very nice upside.
I can just see the Rangers on the clock as the broadcast switches to whomever reps the team on Zoom for the last of the three picks:

“With apologies to Sam Rosen, the New York Rangers select...”

For me personally, that's too high for where Kleven is as a prospect right now. I'd certainly consider him in the second round though.

If I was going to do that (again this is me and not the Rangers), I would see if it's possible to trade back a few slots and pick up a decent second rond pick. For example, if Anaheim wants to swap and send me 27 and 36, that would allow me to hedge a little.

I think that Gunler is not in the mold of who they are looking for. Just my view. Mysak would be my choice, but Greig vs. Kleven is interesting. I would love to have a Kleven in the organization, but Grieg checks a lot of boxes.

Yeah, there were options. I question Greig's upside as a consistent scorer, but there's no denying his energy and agitating style of play. With Kleven, there's also the question of how offensive he'll be, but think the defense will translate at the very worst to be a bottom pair. With obvious development he could be a steady stay-at-home that could log some big minutes. When comparing it like that, I think I value Kleven just a little more.

I was heavily considering Reichel, but think the experience in the DEL was something to reconsider. I think he's going to need a while to really develop if he develops correctly. Same with Gunler. Think Kleven is going to change opinions next season. Underrated defender.

I have speculated that that may also be a move. Falling player, grab later and maybe pick up a 2nd

That's true, forgot you could trade back in the simulation. In that case, yeah I probably would've traded back for Kleven or someone else. Might redo it and see what happens.

Just looked at a draft board and was reminded how weird this year's draft order is.

The team picking first overall only has one less point than the team picking 28th --- and two more wins than that team!

The Rangers only have two less points than the team picking 30th and playing for The Cup. And if Dallas wins, there will be only a two point/two victory difference between the team with the first overall pick and the team lifting The Stanley Cup.

So you're saying we were so close to winning it all this year? :sarcasm:

If Hendrix is good in the NHL it will take about half a second for his nickname to be Jimi. Maybe he needs canniboids to avoid concussions.

MUST. ALSO. DRAFT. LAPIERRE. AT. 22.

Lafreniere-Lapierre-Laferriere

RIP Sam Rosen
