So granted nothing catastrophic happens we should have the 22nd pick(from Carolina) correct? That’s a pretty good spot to gets good player potentially especially in a deeper draft. I also feel like there is a possibility we move up to the teens which shouldn’t cost too much at the spot we would be in

My argument is to draft a right-handed offensive powerhouse, even if risky like Perreault.

Looking up and down the line-up and farm for right-handed forwards, it looks specially weak farm-wise.

We have Panarin, Zibs, Gauthier and Fast with the big club. Pajuniemi as the only farm candidate.

Just watching some interviews. LAF is giving me some Pettersson vibes, as in seriousness, focus and demeanor.

Very aware and precise in answers. I like that very much.

I love his demeanour. Every answer he gives has this underlying, calm, 'Im going to dominate you, prove me wrong' vibe.

As a team, we could really use some of that arrogance. Not to mention he is decent at hockey too.

I've seen so many of the guys around our pick being talked up that I'm not sure if I have genuine reservations about taking anybody discussed in that 21-24 range.

Question for the draft aficionados: who is a bit of a nightmare pick for you in that spot? I need something to fear.

Connor Zary and Justin Barron. And I know I may be in the minority, but as much as I like Peterka and Reichel, I am a bit hesitant to draft them because it's really hard to determine how their performance should be rated and ranked. DEL isn't the strongest league and I'm not sure their quality of opposition is necessarily good enough to consider their performance worthy of a pick in the 20-25 range. They're in the conversation for me but I have others I would pick ahead of them

That one hurts, but I get he shouldn't really be on the radar in that range. But I think you can make a Lapierre-esque (less extreme than Lapierre) case for him

Please stand pat and take Marat Khus.
The more i watch him the more i like him
Laf and Khus would be a Homerun first round IMO

Yeah he is very intriguing. I know from experience that it’s easy to get a little too high on a kid from watching highlights only to be put down a bit when you see him in game situations. I saw him live at the U18s last season a couple of times, but didn’t spend super much attention on him. But this kid seems to have everything, character, great skating, skill.

It also depends on where teams have "the divide" compared to where they are picking.

Montreal was posteuring that they feel there's not a lot of difference after the 9th pick, but we'll see if that's legit for them. Personally, I have it after 14 --- with Mercer/Lundell/Jarvis within that number. So depending on if a team has a view like the one Montreal floated, or like mine, or anywhere in-between, that could change the willingness to move.

In fact, if Montreal is serious about thinking there's no difference after 9, they could be a team willing to move their pick.

Montreal has 14 picks and we don't have a 2nd rounder. I think moving up to their spot will be difficult, as they aren't going to want a bunch of lesser picks. Maybe they'd be willing to take 2021 picks. A 2021 2nd and a 2020 3rd or something like that.

We really need for the Islanders and Stars to close out their series. Having the 22nd pick instead of the 24th will make moving up that much easier.

I like what I've read about Marat, but I think one of Lundell or Holloway would be a better fit, and I think both are closer to NHL ready.

I don't know if I have a nightmare pick, so much as a few guys who concern me a bit more because of various risk factors, or who I think might not quite match the reward I am hoping the Rangers receive. But I can't say I'd dread taking them either.

That list would include Lapierre, Greig, Peterka, Reichel, Khusnutdinov, Barron, and Zary.

I'm thinking Montreal may prefer a young player instead of a second.

Rangers trade up to draft Zary: confirmed.

They liked him earlier in the year, I can't say I've heard his name nearly as much in recent months though.

Sometimes a player rises on my list the more I watch them. In Zary's case he dropped.

There were just elements of his game I became less confident about projecting at the higher levels, and there were more and more guys who grabbed my attention.

closer to nhl ready should not be a factor. draft the guy you think is the better player in their prime. if you have to wait a few years for them to be ready it is still worth it in the long run

In terms of BPA/closer to ready crossovers --- I think Lundell and Mercer have that combination. I think both guys would also fit right in like a glove.

But, to your point, which I agree with, assuming neither is on the board and the Rangers can't/don't trade up, I don't think there's another player for whom "closer to read" would be a factor.

I like Holloway more than most on this board, but I would definitely not put him in that category. He's going to need time, and ideally, structure.

To be perfectly honest, with what's happening and in light of the NCAA's recent declaration that players won't lose eligibility by playing junior hockey, a move to the WHL might do wonders for him.
