They gotta get into the 2nd
It's too packed of a draft
Any way they can
If I remember correctly Hull was either in camp or was going to be there and Chicago blocked it.Nilsson and Hedberg of course were linemates along with Bobby Hull with the WHA's Winnipeg Jets. They were arguably the best line in that league for three or four years running. If I remember correctly they were like front page on some of the New York daily's the day Rangers signed them and Nilsson is the reason for the 'Potvin sucks' chant--so it's important New York Rangers lore. Hedberg had to get use to other Rangers centers and he never really found the chemistry he had with Nilsson. I kind of remember there even was talk the Rangers would end up with Hull himself.
As far as Nylander I loved watching him play--he was unusually strong on the puck and evasive and patient with it too even if he wasn't the fastest guy. Between him and Jagr it was almost impossible to get the puck away from them.
Here you go

It seems to be a very good year but it's like almost every year we have people expressing this same sentiment. For the bulk of players even in the first couple rounds it's going to take 2/3 years before they start appearing in the NHL or sorting themselves out as legit or also rans.
What the Rangers have done in a really short period of time is to makeover our team from a veteran squad to pretty much the youngest team in the league with a lot of really good up and comers who are at the beginning of their careers and we still have a number of them to sort through too. In almost any other year the Rangers would have signed someone like Nico Gross instead of just letting him go but there's just such a glut of LD above him that he didn't even get a chance and this guy IMO could turn into a legit NHL player some day.
It's not necessarily a bad idea to try to get some 2nd rounders but I wouldn't be tossing away young roster players to do it. There are no imperatives and we're almost guaranteed a successful draft with Lafreniere already. There's a point where you transition from rebuild mode into competitive playoff team and then to legit contender. The Rangers focus should be on the transition to becoming a competitive playoff team now.
yesLuke Tuch, is that as in Alex Tuch’s brother?
I would love to draft two Jesper Fast types in the third round.Anyone have a read on Theodor Niederbach? From the Youtube videos and peripheral online scouting reports it seems he is projected to be a Jesper Fast type of player. Every team can use a player of that type.
As much as Pierre has been hyping up his stock he probably won't make it to the third round. I swear every week on montreal sports radio he mentions Luke Tuchyes

Rangers love bloodlines, I like him as a prospect
Rangers will try to draft him checks the boxes in my opinion, has a Boston connection due to school and a upstate NY kid

I think I'd rather a bigger player and a safer pick. Looking at who could be our wingers for the next several years---Panarin, Lafreniere, Kakko, Kreider, Buchnevich(?)--it's like we already have our top 6 wingers in place and I don't see a guy like Nybeck being reason to move any of the above out. My sleeper would be another Swedish player Daniel Torgersson (though I also like Emil Heineman) who could also potentially challenge for a 2nd line wing job some day but who could more easily slide into a 3rd line wing position. Torgersson's already 6'2/6'3 200 lbs. and has a well rounded game and is a very good skater. To me he's pretty safe to play in the NHL and at worse his floor might be a bigger, stronger version of Jesper Fast.
In general I don't see a good reason for us to gamble here. Going forward we're going to have a very talented team--we should focus on areas we need to get stronger at and deepen the team. Whenever we can--add to the size and grit quotient so as to get harder to play against. If one of your favorites Dylan Holloway was still around I would say yeah to him too---very good size, good compete, skates very well. I would always keep in mind roles that a player could fit into if he doesn't hit his ceiling. To me guys like Torgersson and Holloway could check a lot of boxes like that.
FWIW I'd be happy with Greig too. The Rangers could use more combative players who can actually play a regular shift. I would consider Greig a safe pick too and I see his floor as a 3rd line wing. We could use a guy like him. Better us than Washington, Boston or the Flyers pick him up instead.
He screams Flyers pick to me, lolol.

I hope not. The Rangers should try to snag the next Tom Wilson type. Those players still matter
He does but I think we get to pick before they do.
