Jarvis/Mercer/Khusnutdinov for me if at all possible.

Mercer and Jarvis being there is a bit optimistic.

Kushnutdinov should be. I like him, Bourque, Greig or maybe perhaps a sliding D in that spot. Like if for some reason Schneider slips to that pick, I'd be alllll over that. After that I'd look to guys like Gunler, Mysak, Forrester, and if you want the home run swing, Perrault.

Just taking a quick look at various mock draft sites and rankings with the Rangers first round. Obviously Lafreniere is a given, but some interesting names associated with the Canes picks. Some haven't been updated yet. When in doubt, I am listing the 24th ranked player. Some more than others:

DraftSite.com - Ridly Greig

MyNHLdraft.com - Kaiden Guhle

Tankathon.com - Jan Mysak

BleacherReport.com - Kaiden Guhle

TheSportsBank.net - Rodion Amirov

TheHockeyWriters.com - Justin Barron

NBCsports.com - Justin Barron

SportingNews.com - Jan Mysak

CSB NA - Ty Smilanic

ISS - Ponomarev

Elite Prospects - Peterka

Future Considerations - Foerster

TSN/Button - Kaiden Guhle

ESPN - Brendan Brisson

McKenzie Rankings - Ridly Greig

McKeen's - Ridly Greig

So, for those keeping score: Greig (3); Guhle (3), Barron (2); Mysak (2); and everyone else with 1.

Kournianos' site has us picking Khusnutdinov at 24 if you feel like adding that to the mix.

Where I have some of these other names ranked:

Guhle - 15
Greig - 35
Mysak - 23
Amirov - 21
Barron - 38
Khusnutdinov - 37
Brisson - 25
Peterka - 22
Smilanic - 41
Foerster - 27
Bourque - 17
Reichel - 39

I’ve watched a lot of vids on these prospects today. Some were really impressive, others I didn’t really see the hype, but it made it quite clear that Lafreniere is just on a higher level than all of them. Like if you want to get an idea of how good Lafreniere is, don’t just watch his highlight reels, watch all his peers too. If you had to, you could sum up all these kids in a sentence, Lafreniere needs at least a paragraph.

Which ones did you like?

The thing about Laf in the Q is that his team honestly sucks balls. He was the only reason why they were as good as they were.

Stuzle, Jarvis, Mercer, Sanderson, Mysak. Guhle was ok. I didn’t watch all of them maybe 1/3 or 1/2. Seth Jarvis looked really freaking good.

Lundell I technically watched 10 minutes of...but literally couldn’t figure out which player he was. Next.

Byfield honestly looks like someone who is going to have a Brian-Boyle-like career to me. Seemed like the only thing he did the entire time was skate down the wing and take a wrister.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying? That would be his floor?

I was just saying that most on here are already gauging him to become the next captain and so on. Was just reiterating that although he has enormous potential, he still needs to work for his ice-time and develop into that perennial star player for the franchise.

With that, I'm not worried about him.

Yeah the group of 5 up top are some of the more impressive players in the class.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend watching Kushnutdinov's stuff. His zone entries are God tier.

The thing I learned from draft sim is how har it will be for the Rangers to move up and get a sliding player without adding a player or prospects to the deal without a second rounder.

So add a player or prospect then. We have D prospects in spades. We need a center.

Instead of trading up with Carolina’s pick and losing assets. How about we just trade down and get two 2nd round picks?

We do not have any picks in the 2nd.

It's possible. But I feel like we have enough depth in our prospect pool and already have 10 picks this draft. Might be better off using the CAR 1st to get a young 2C.

Looking at the trade down option on the draft sim.

It says I can trade:

NYR trade:

#23
#197

OTT trade:

#33
#52
#53
#95

With the 3 second round picks. I selected

33 - Jacob Perreault- C
52 - Joni Jurmo - LD
53 - Vasili Ponomaryov- C

I don't like the idea of trading down tbh. I'd be interested in trading up incase someone unforeseen falls a bit but other than that, I'm hanging out where ever the Carolina pick is (or trading it for an established body.)

There are other ways to acquire 2nd round picks.

Did my first draft sim since we won the lottery. I'd be very happy with this

86 Joel Blomqvist G
103 Tristen Robins C
134 Samuel Johannesson RD
165 Viktor Persson RD
196 Reid Valade RW
197 Adam Wilsby LD
205 Joonas Oden LW

The trade value on that site isn’t accurate.

If the Rangers could still get Khusnutdinov after dropping 3-4 spots and pick up a 2nd, I’d be satisfied.

Was Will Cuylle available at 72? If so, you disappoint me.
