Keep an eye on the late risers.

Wouldn’t at all be surprised if we had our eyes on a few guys that isn’t super high among the scouting services right now.

I think Holloway is an NHLer. If the offense doesn't work, he becomes a solid speedy winger who can PK, and forecheck.

Yeah, I think that’s probably right, I’m just saying, I’d be looking for more like Chytils than safe guys who end up not being offensive drivers.

Yes of course you need both but the offensive catalysts who are also complete players are way harder to find.

I mean, a solid Speedy NHLer who can PK and forecheck sounds like Carl Hagelin or Jesper Fast.

It's looking like the Rangers may end up with picks in the 13-16 range and the 19-23 range.

Say you end up with 14 & 19. Who do you take?

Zary and Mysak if i can’t move up. But I’d move picks, prospects or even roster players to do so, within reason.

Depends on which rankings/mock we’re looking at.

I could be happy with Holloway and Mysak according to TSN.

I could be happy with Sanderson/Zary and Smilanic off the Tankathon rankings.

ESPN mock would have me taking Zary and Holloway at 14 and 19.

Those are just some scenarios for me at this point.

Of course, as an alternative to the Sanderson and Mysak picks I posted above, where I'd be swinging for booms on a #1LD and a potential top 6 center, I can also see the these two picks being very attractive to the Rangers as a way to get solid, gritty, capable two-way guys to fill in on ELCs in the middle six while they're paying the big bucks to guys like Panarin, Zibanejad, and then a few of the kids coming up who will need bigger paydays (e.g. ADA, Fox, Kakko, Chytil).

Thanks for the replies. Net/net you have to get a hit on one of the picks. Meaning it needs to be an NHLer. I think the Rangers have enough depth on defense where they can take a swing with a forward, and get another player that you know will play.

IMO in the teens, you have Foudy and Holloway who are easily the best skaters in that range. The top 10 has Stutzle, Byfield, Drysdale. Foudy might be the best skater of the lot.

If you walkaway with Foudy and Holloway, you are getting two NHLers imo. But both of those guys might combine for 30 goals a year in the show, but you will get a couple of speed demons.

It's really a matter of if you want to swing for the fences. I really like Seth Jarvis out of Portland. He's got a little Jordan Eberle in him. Outstanding hands, and hockey IQ, but he's not going to blow you away athletically.

Another guy who would be an upside pick is Tyson Foerster. Best player by far on a bad team. Again, another guy who has the hands, hockey iq and compete, but not the wheels to be an elite player.

It will be interesting to see how it all folds out. You have the injured Justin Barron too, he was slated to go top 10 prior to the year, same with Gunler.

Thoughts on Seth Jarvis? I think he should go around our first round picks.

Literally posted this at the same time. I've been in Portland recently, and... he looks really good. Not an elite athlete, but I get Jordan Eberle vibes from him. Filthy in and around the net.

I'm surprised no one is mentioning Seth Jarvis. 2nd highest PPG for a U18 player in the WHL in the last 20 years and he's doing it without a ton of support. From what I've seen, I'm not sure if he has really high end skill, but he definitely has some skill and he seems like a monster in terms of driving play with very good skating and a really high compete level.

Definitely someone I would consider. Could be BPA, and a guy who happens to fit more of a support need at some point.

Zary, Gunler or Holloway. Could reach on Mysak. Hoping Lundell falls seeing the lack of high ranked defenders.

Isn't Quinn riding shotgun to one of the great center prospects? After my ill-advised love affair with Grachev back in the day, I've learned to be wary of such players.

Take a mid-round/UDFA flyer on someone like Elmer? (Or, actually, even Evgeny, who we took in the 3rd and I just hyped way too much in my own mind.) Sure. Use a first round pick to draft one...? I'm extremely hesitant.

If I'm not mistaken, it's Rossi centering Quinn and Keating. I know Ottawa has gotten a ton of points from the PP this year, so not sure what the production really could be.

I won't lie, I think it would be foolish to go in the 1st round on a guy like Quinn based on previous NYR busts playing with top playmakers (Grachev and Gropp), but it's tough to say about a late pick. Certainly not at No. 20, but I'm saying more so late 1st. Quinn isn't too bad of a player, though and think he could be somewhat similar to Ryan Strome, stylistically.

Where have Marat Khusnutdinov been ranked lately? Wouldn’t be surprised if he was a big riser after a good U18.

March 1st is the first day where teams can sign undrafted overage juniors or juniors who's teams lost their rights on last year and are playing their final overage season looking to be signed.

Thought this was a bit of a nugget, though....

I remember being high on Hillis, McShane and Fonstad!! All could still be worth a gamble.

Based on position, this seems like an awesome draft outcome, although I only have a passing understanding of the draft at this point in time.

I get a JT Miller kind of vibe from Holloway; he'll be an NHLer, it just depends how his final tool set comes together as to where he plays in the lineup and how much 'potential' you feel is never realised
