Yes, I definitely get that vibe from the Rangers.
There's more mixed reactions around other parts of the league, but the Rangers love the progress and the potential.
I can certainly "get" what they're envisioning. Sanderson isn't necessarily a kid who you draft because you think he's necessarily had the best results to this point. He's a kid you draft because you feel he's closing the gap and is going to surpass some of the other talents.
I think people get caught up expecting more point totals from him --- and I think some of those numbers could come with time. But I also think Sanderson isn't necessarily an offensive numbers guy. I think his speed steers certain opinions in that direction and influences opinions, but I don't know if he'll ever be a guy who wows you with offensive numbers.
What some people do believe he can be, is a guy in the Bouwmeester mold. In addition to potentially being the best player on the board when the Rangers pick, it could also be a scenario where you have a player who is an ideal fit for the way the team is structured.
But it all depends on where the Rangers are picking. If they're in that 8-12 range, he could be their guy. If they are picking in the late teens and beyond, he'll be off the board.
Hoping Sanderson isn’t their pick, but if they believe him to be their guy it’s hard not to fault them for it.
Just think it’s a mistake taking a defender (other than Drysdale) early in the draft with all those centers there. If they pick around No. 15, then it makes sense to reach on Sanderson (to much dislike).
