This late in the draft is when you take fliers on guys this big so sure why not. If he pans out he'd be a pretty good bottom 6er and maybe he turns into Russian Maroon.

I'm okay with this pick but not one of the guys on my board.

I remember seeing some posters on here having him in the second round.

Another good pick. He should have gone at least 50 picks earlier. Big power forward with soft hands, great vision, and solid finishing ability. He plays on the same team as Maxim Denezhkin, so the Oilers must have seen a lot of him. Just needs to work on his skating.

I'm starting to think teams know something about Pashin that we don't. No reason he should be falling this much.

I like guys who’s only real weakness is skating. It’s something you can improve on if you put in the work. This guy is probably a project but definitely some upside. Ken Holland is great with obscure Europeans.

Yes and no.

Heard Craig Button on the radio once and he was talking about guys improving their skating. He said when he was with the Stars Jason Botterill worked his ass off to get his skating to an NHL level. He never could. Gave him credit for trying and putting the time in...but said it wasn’t to be.

If I were making these picks I’d start with smarts and compete level - not sure where skating would rank. You might be right many can overcome it.

Quote about Maxim Beryozkin from @Caser:
There is a quality that I extremely value in forwards — to be able to create something out of nothing in terms of offense and that is exactly why I have Beryozkin pretty high on my list. Not the greatest skater (although can't really call his skating awful considering his size), he still got great hands and elite vision that makes him special to watch. Beryozkin's shot should be noted too, as there are both precision wristers and powerful slappers in his arsenal. Having a big body (6'2" or 6'3") is a nice bonus, although he still needs to learn how to properly use it. Needs to play some better D too, although he clearly doesn't mind that part.

He is now listed at 6'4".

I'm not sure why people are so down on this pick. I think it's great value at 138th. His skating will likely hold him back but it's not like the other players available didn't have question marks. Pashin, for example, is unlikely to overcome his frame and make it to the NHL, as exciting as his upside may be. Most scouting services had Beryozkin ranked in the top-100, and I had him at 89th.

I don't watch all of these kids like some of you do so I don't get bummed when we pass on a favorite for a non favorite. I tend to watch some video of them after we draft them and then kind of form an opinion of the player at that point. This seems like a toolsy player with good size. Not sure if he'll be better than others picked around him, but there's something to work with here IMO.

Beryozkin is a fantastic pick for us. He is a master at slowing the game down and dazzles with masterful passes and excellent vision in the offensive zone. When the puck is on his stick he slows the game down and is like a surgeon in his abilities to pick the opponent apart. The biggest issue is that he really slows the game down and rarely plays with pace. Is that a conditioning thing, a skating thing or just a hockey sense thing? That’s the real scouts job, to have those conversations, with the kid, with the coach, with the parents. Considering we drafted him, I’m thinking they like the answers they got.

I'd say stull work in progress there, but he's trying.

Alright brother. Keep us updated with substantive stuff on his play this season. We live and breathe hockey in Western Canada.

Finding Russian material and reports are not exactly easy for Canadians, so we rely on guys like you here. Keep us updated with our new Comrade.

Looks like a big alpha male type killer that we like in Western Canada. Being a right shot helps.
