Why is Byfield stapled to the bench in OT while Foote (several shifts), Dellandrea etc continue to play. Of course Canada was completely dominated in the OT session. Makes no sense.

Byfield is a likely future star in the NHL, but to me he looks like the player that is having the most difficulty adjusting to the pace of the game. It’s as if he expects to dominate his opponents but when it doesn’t happen, he doesn’t quite know what to do. To be expected for a 17 year old in a tournament featuring most of the best 19 year olds in the sport.

I would move Byfield out of the top 6 before the real games begin.

Disagree based on today's game. I thought he had a good game. He had lots of chances , read the play well. I had no issues with that line today at all. I also don't think they have anyone better to replace him with.

Hunter stapled Foote to Lafreniere before the first practice match. Can’t see him breaking them up now after Foote’s 2 goal performance.

I think the best we can hope for given that Hunter will keep that line together is:

Lafreniere - Veleno - Foote
McMichael - Hayton - Thomas
Foudy - Dellandrea - Dudas
Byfield - Cozens - Lavoie
Mercer

Personally, this is what I would ice against the Americans:

Lafreniere - Hayton - Thomas
McMichael - Veleno - Cozens
Foote - Byfield - Lavoie
Foudy - Dellandrea - Dudas

After reviewing many of TC shootouts, there are 3 main issues with the ways that TC players are executing the shooouts:

1. Coming in with no speed, this just make things easier for goalies to react to.

2. Noticing how goalies will always come out more to challenge TC shooters as they know they tend to shoot more.
Thus, TC shooters tend to execute a 1-2 move (where shooter execute a simple deceptive maneuver, fake left and shoot right or vice versa)
TC shooters need to execute a more complex 1-2-3 maneuver at higher speed, fake left, fake right, and shoot left at higher speed, or vice versa)

3. Avoid going straight in, Curve to the left or right and execute a move 1-2-3 move at higher speed. Of course, this is easier than said. Going in fast and executing a 1-2-3 move is not easy if
you do not have soft hands.

I have no idea what you are watching.

Sometimes Hayton is tough to watch. Barely moving off the half wall and trying to toe drag everyone

Kills any line he is on.

Will be looking for big games from Byfield and Foote. Neither impressed last game, and frankly neither look like top 6 players for this team, though it is early. Foote also looks considerably worse to me on the right side than he did earlier this season in his natural position.

Ahhh... So Ray Ferraro loved Byfields game but you dont think he was any good. Meanwhile he showed elite skill down low, they even did a feature on him on TSN...

They didnt even play that bad, its the second game as a team players need reps together.

A TSN feature?? By George

I always welcome a difference of opinion. I think Byfield would do a better job against easier matchups on D, though that won’t happen if they keep him with Hayton, who is watched like a hound out there.

Byfield’s had some tremendous linemates the last couple of games in Hayton, Cozens, and Lavoie but hasn’t been able to make anything happen as of yet.

We are watching two very different games. To me hes been one of our best forwards.

Foote gets a lot of slack but he has 2 goals and they were snipes. Who is really playing better than him from the forwards? The Dellandrea line is good, they kill penalties and get a lot of pressure in the offensive zone. I think Mercer should be moved up the line-up in replace of Cozens, use Cozens as a center on another line.

It wouldn't surprise me for Bahl to have the most ice-time out of the defencemen at the end of the tournament. Not only does he shut down opponents but he jumps in the rush and has a great shot. As much hype as our defence core gets, they are small and have weak shots. It shows up against good teams because they aren't scared of point shots from Canada. Bahl is refreshing.

How was Lavoie?
Played in the offensive zone a lot. He's good at keeping possession with his long reach and strength, not dynamic but he doesn't need to be.

Again no idea what you are watching and it seems to be the shared sentiment by everyone in this thread. Byfield has been the most noticable one from a positive standpoint of the players you just mentioned.

I don’t know what game you were watching, but it clearly wasn’t the Canada game.

Agree, 100 percent. So does everyone except GoldenJet... Strange.

Not sure what game(s) you've been watching but Byfield is not the problem on his line. He was excellent yesterday, and vs. the Swiss.

If anyone off that line deserves to be demoted at the minute, it's Hayton.

I'm enjoying the early start times this year. When the tournament was held in Europe more often I often went to my uncle's house for a boxing day brunch and enjoyed eating the various Christmas goods while watching Canada's first game, though it was often against a minnow. This year it will be lasagna, rolled steak, cabbage rolls, and other assorted good stuff as Canada takes on a good USA team. Looking forward to it. Hopefully everyone can enjoy and we see a good result.

Actually, I agree with Jet about Byfield.

There's a lot of fans of bottom feeders (some higher up in this thread) that are salivating at the thought of drafting him in six months.

You're going to have a hard time getting an honest criticism out of them when it comes to Byfield's play.

I would love my Wings to draft him as well, but he needs to do more with the opportunities he has received to stay so high up in the lineup for me.

So you honestly believe that Hayton and Cozens have showed more up to this point? I dont see how anyone can objectively look at the situation and conjure up the idea that they like a player more because he might get drafted by their favorite team. Thats a pretty over the top assumption, his skill creativity and size have been on full display. Ferraro showed numerous clips of it in the game against the Swiss. It was fairly obvious to see. Same as Hayton not moving the puck and trying to do too much.

From the 2 games I’ve seen Byfield has tons of potential but is still raw.

lafrenierre has also been good but I feel he can still be better. Kinda reminds me of Rantanen with possibly more upside.
