WJC: 2020 Canada Roster Talk Part II

Ty smith was captain for this group for u17 and u18 team for wjc and veleno captained at u18 hlinka cup, which Smith had an 'A' for...so I assume smith and Veleno will get 2 of the letters for this group.

Yeah, I definitely think Smith gets a letter but I doubt hes getting the C when theres 2 guys coming back from pro hockey and one of them has as much history wearing the C for this group. My bet would be...

C - Veleno
A - Hayton
A - Smith
A - this one is a toss up for me. Could see it being Lafreniere but hes young. Could see it being McIsaac. Hes a returning D but he was also taking the ceremonial draws at the U sport games which makes me think he has a shot at one. Before McIsaac took those opening draws against U sports I woulda bet more on Lafreniere but McIsaac is an older returnee who has worn letters for this group in the past. Having McIsaac have one would have 2 on D and 2 forwards with letters.

I'm like 90% sure the first 3 will have letters but that last one is anyones guess between those 2 imo

Will be looking for big games from Byfield and Foote. Neither impressed last game, and frankly neither look like top 6 players for this team, though it is early. Foote also looks considerably worse to me on the right side than he did earlier this season in his natural position.
 
McMichael plays a pretty skilled game, I think he is somebody who can take ice-time from Cozens, Lavoie, or Foote especially if the center is Veleno or Hayton. A lot of our big guys are skilled, but they still will get challenged by better teams with a similar skill level.

my rule of thumb when it comes to 17 year olds at this tournament is expect little to nothing. that way they won't disappoint. Team Canada coaches often don't show a whole lot of patience with these players like Byfield. 1 mistake and you're riding the pine for extended periods.

as for Foote, that's a whole different kettle of fish. He hasn't got a whole lot in international experience, but what little he does have, he's never really impressed me much.

but fingers crossed...hopefully it will all work out.

I would not get to set or used to the lines....Hunter changes his lines about 5 times a period so I can't see then staying the same. If a player is going he will get bumped up, if a player does not have it that game they will get bumped down. He plays it period to period and I would expect a lot of changes game to game.
 
My lines would be

Lafreniere - Veleno - Cozens
McMichael - Hayton - Lavoie
Foudy - Dellandrea - Mercer
Byfield - Thomas - Dudas
Foote

I know I've been saying this a lot in these threads...
But why on god's green earth is Nolan Foote still on the first line?
