It's very dumb if he ends up sitting all of these games or even all but one or two over this span. The Islanders have six games remaining before the WJC ends.
The reason Dobson isn't on loan isn't because the Islanders need him to play every game, but I think it's more like the Islanders don't want to see Dobson get injured during the tournament. He represents "depth" for the Islanders. I think they fear that if one of their defenders gets injured and that in addition Dobson is not there (either because he participates in the tournament and/or in addition he gets injured during the tournament), that could put the Islanders a little bit in trouble. It must be believed that Lamoriello does not have much confidence in our defensemen in the AHL and that Hickey, at the latest news, was still injured.

In short, I think Lamoriello did the following calculation for the "worst possible scenario" and he thinks it's not worth it. Personally, I would have liked to see Dobson at this tournament. I am disappointed not to see him participate but I understand the reluctance of Lamoriello.

I think the only "worst possible scenario" is exactly what Lou is doing for Dobson's development

Exactly. Imagine trying to improve your piano playing skills by watching someone else perform.
Frankly lame comparison. You act like he never practices, never plays... Dobson has nothing more to learn at the junior level. In addition, the Islanders are currently among the best teams in the league. Victories are important and they want to keep all of their players. If the Islanders were at the bottom of the rankings, there is no doubt in my mind that Dobson would have been loaned.

He probably learns more by playing part-time in the NHL than by playing everyday in the Q whether you like it or not. If it weren't for Hickey's injury (in the AHL), Dobson's chances of being loaned would have been better.

Hunter has made a few odd lineup decisions already, but I can’t see Hayton getting moved off PP1.
I think that Veleno and Hayton play the same role on the PP. Cozens brings a heavy shot to PP1 and Hayton can be the main way driver on PP2.

It won't happen, but I think it would bring more balance to the units.

Dobson ain't here, we need to move on, what's more important is finding some lines that work for us here, especially finding the right guys to play with Lafreniere.

I have high hopes for mercer, I like the jump in his game, also, his English is impeccable.

Should make for a viable interview.

Cutting Groulx was the right decision
Dude was a ghost against Swiss and the University games.

Also dumping Lavoie to the 4th is a terrific move. He had no business being in the top 6

No business on the team, really. Especially if he’s going to be used in a fourth line role.

I'm still surprised Newhook didn't make this team. I like Serron Noel as well , both guys on the big ice with their skating would have been beneficial.

I'm still a tad worried that the Hunters built this team like we were playing on the smaller ice. It's a concern.

no better accent in the world

and speaking of accents...what are people most hyped about? a new season of Letterkenny dropping on Christmas day or Canada v USA on Boxing Day? It's a toss up.

I was hitchhiking home from halifax one day when I was 17 and this guy in a pickup pulls over and picks me up outside Truro and he's from God knows what bay in NF, I forgot the name of the place before he told me. Anyway, he starts talking and doesn't stop talking for the next 2 hours and no lie I can only understand roughly 25 to 30% of what the guy is saying and I am used to some pretty non conventional english in parts of Cape Breton. All I can do as he spins whatever yarn he was spinning is nod my head and go "yeah, yeah" all I could really get out of the two hours was that he was working some fishing boat out of Digby, the rest was incomprehensible. It was some satanic mix of Irish and mumbled English patois.

Anyway, we parted ways at Mother Webbs just outside Antigonish because the guy wanted a steak before his last leg onward to North Sydney to catch the ferry. I only waited a few minutes before I got picked up again and as I settled into the car the driver looked at me and I had a look on my face that said....."you have no idea what I have just been through"

You simply cannot buy memories like that.

It's top notch. If we ever go to war again and you get the guys from the right outposts from the rock and we've got our very own windtalkers, no ones gonna crack what they are saying.

Dobson hasn't looked great lately, he shouldn't be in the NHL in my opinion. Would have loved to see him play in this tournament.

Agree that it won’t happen, Hayton is the last guy they would move off the top unit right now.

Dobson really would have been the missing piece for this team. Still, the roster is top notch outside of goaltending, and a few other countries are missing close to the same amount of talent. If they can adjust to the big ice quickly, the talent is there for gold. Just need good decisions from this coaching staff and need to hope our goalies stay healthy and on top of their game.

Lavoie is a good little insurance policy if and when the scoring dries up. Do you think he made the team just on his good looks?Maybe he should run for prime minister
