Lol @ me if youre going to call my post a reach. Theres a reason Veleno played 4 more minutes than Hayton yesterday and youre in here bagging on him and saying how much better Hayton is. Hayton scored 2 goals, he also continues to make frustrating plays that everyone in this thread except you point out constantly. One 1 timer goal on a PP where he doesnt even have to move doesnt all of a sudden automatically absolve him from some of these plays. Yes, he had a solid game overall, yes he also made some frustrating plays which many have pointed out. There is no reason to come in here and say he is outscoring Veleno (because he really shouldnt be) and because Veleno played a hell of a game yesterday. 4 more minutes of ice time including setting up the goal that sealed the win, winning every crucial draw etc.

I dont think youll find many people who think Hayton came out on top of the comparison yesterday even with his 2 goals. I'm starting to think youre related to him or hes a friend of yours or something.
And I think you are related to Veleno.

Did you watch the game yesterday? Coming in here to say Veleno should be demoted and that Hayton outplayed him yesterday is ridiculous. I didnt come in here talking about how much better Veleno was, I came in here saying they both played solid and that it dumb to claim Hayton has outperformed him after another poster started spewing off about its no surprise Hayton is outplaying him.

And on top of that, when I've criticised Haytons game its never been in direct comparison to Veleno. I think Hayton does hog the puck too much sometimes and he needs to stop trying to be so fancy. But I never say haha Hayton made a dumb play Veleno is way better. I also never say Hayton should be demoted because I know overall hes played solid but he has some stuff that drives me (and a tonne of other posters) on this site mad during the game because he could be so much better.

A one timer where he doesnt even have to move on the PP, and another tap in on a wide open net on the PP doesnt change these things. Its great that he scored some goals but I also dont think that he magically made those goals happen and a large majority of the players on team Canada score in those positions.
You’re reaching because I don’t think Veleno should have had that secondary assist on the empty netter as you claim. He swiped at a puck that then went off Dellandrea, which Laf picked up. Laf sent it back to Dellandrea for the goal, by IIHF rules there is no second assist on those plays (which is different than NHL rules). So you’re reaching (and incorrect) if you claim Veleno should have had two assists.

Also Veleno is getting more ice because he centers the best winger on the team in Laf. Being outscored by Hayton while having better wingers and more icetime is not exactly something to brag about.

Well apparently you know more about the IIHF rules than Ray Ferraro whose been calling the world juniors for years, because he believed Veleno should have gottent that assist. But its not really even about counting points, watching the game you could see Veleno played really well and did a lot of little things right. Watching that game and saying Haytons one more point means he played better while Veleno didnt get a point but caused the turnover leading to the empty net goal and won a bunch of key faceoffs while generating a lot of chances is pretty dumb.

Youre clearly watching these games with an agenda. Its one thing to think Hayton might've played better (dont think many would agree), but to think Veleno played poorly enough in comparison that he should be demoted from the line hes on and that Hayton was clearly better? Youre watching with some funny coloured glasses on

If you’re referring to me, I actually wrote that Hayton is outscoring him, which is not an opinion but a statement of fact. You somehow got upset over this.

Hayton outscored Veleno last year and is pacing to make it 2 years in a row. Veleno is a good player too however and is playing with Canada’s best winger, so Hayton will be hard pressed to out score him two years in a row.

Apparently I do? This is not some mystical scenario where you have to appeal to authority, the rules are cut and dry. Here’s an example from the 2018 WJC (starts at 1:25):

Liljegren makes a stretch pass to Andersson, who who plays touch and go with Karlstrom for the goal. In the NHL, that’s a point for Liljegren, but not under WJC rules (he didn’t get an assist here). Plenty of other examples of the rules difference out there.

pathetic performance by Canada.
probably the worst game I have seen team Canada play at the world juniors since I started following them back in 2007.

How the leading scorer among eligible defensemen in the entire CHL didn't even get an invite to this team is beyond me.

It's only one game... It's better for a stinker game like this to happen now than in elimination rounds. Russia had a stinker against the Czech and it woke them up it seems.

Merkley plays for the Hunters, they know him better than anyone. I’m sure if he should have gotten an invite, he would have.

Never seen Canada lay an egg like this in the WJC, ever since i started watching the tournament in 1994. Such awful defensive play. Hoping the ship gets turned around starting Monday against Germany. Give Hofer the chance to be a starter from here on out. Not much a goalie can do when the defense was so terrible for Canada.
