So obviously we suck, but we also just took the best team in the league to a one-goal loss with half a roster. It could be worse, it could be... whatever last game was. Removing the garbage from our current roster, I think this is ultimately what we have:

xxx - xxx - xxx
xxx - Kopitar - Vilardi
Kempe - xxx - xxx
Grundstrom - JAD - Carter
Brown

xxx - Doughty
Clague - Roy
Anderson - Walker

Petersen

If we only had an entire top line, a second-line left wing, a third-line center and right wing, a top-pairing defenseman, and a starting goalie, we'd have a pretty decent team.

With the way he’s playing, he’s already called it quits. Only one more season to go after this one for his contract to run out.
Eight years for a player on their third contract is never a good idea.

We shouldn't expect more from a 36-year old Dustin Brown, especially considering the way he played the game up to the age of 30.

I wouldn't have a problem with him if he was just put on the fourth line and left there. I don't know what he is showing TMac in practice that is convincing him to put him in the middle six and on special teams. Being on the second powerplay unit is just brutal.

Exactly. Amadio is what he is. TMac is the one playing him 2nd PP and 17 mins in the game

I’m watching Kings live...listening to these morons it seems we have won 6-0

IMO the only player who had a decent game was Kempe
Moral Victory...lol Ya...we didn't get blown out.

While I agree Amadio needs to be down on the fourth and Brown bumped down as well. Unless they’re calling up Turcotte, Byfield and Kaliyev we don’t have anybody at the moment to replace them. Thinks might be different when Lizotte and AA come back and we can figure out who to put where.

But Blake’s idea is play the kids in Ontario and hopefully they’ll grow and gain chemistry together before bringing them all up to the NHL.

Imagine if Turcotte and Kaliyev show amazing chemistry in the AHL and then Byfield and Madden and you can transition that to NHL.

I don’t know why people are complaining about Brown. He is what he is. He’s good at parking his butt in the crease and laying a hit once in a while. He’s never been a good puck handler. Ever. It’s like people are shocked when he flubs a pass or coughs it up. That’s why Kopi has to lug the puck everywhere. It’s been this way for a decade and a half, including the cup years.

Sure, and I don't think Cuylle is a good prospect. We certainly weren't about to draft Sokolov, a Russian winger, who went at 61. You could make an argument for Gage Goncalves I suppose. The next forward drafted after Goncalves was Simontaival at 66, then you have to wait all the way until 74 and 75 to get to Smilanic and Foudy. So if you really wanted to take another forward, then between 60 (Cuylle) and 66 (Simontaival), the Kings could have taken Sokolov and Goncalves, and between Simontaival (66) and Laferriere (83), the Kings could have taken Smilanic, Foudy, Gushchin, or Slaggert. Alternatively, the Kings could have taken one of the defensemen or goalies I listed. I'm not saying that trading for Andersson was terrible, but at the time I was surprised when there were still a number of quality defense and (more specifically) goalie prospects available. Our goalie pipeline would be better with Daws or Clang in it.
I hear you...I like our goalie pipeline...Quick may be gone at the deadline I think but Vallalta,Ingham,Hrenak,Parik and Markkonen together with Petersen are as good if not better than any other NHL teams...The Kings do need another top flight D-man and a bonafide scoring Winger or two! PS The Kings will need to sign Parik this season, ditto for Hrenak...then they can loan them out to Czech and/or Slovak professional clubs for a season or two for development while Markkonen makes his way to SM-Liiga for at least 2-3 years. Kings look flush though we don't have a young Quicker in the system

Crappy teams tend to sometimes get under the skin of good teams. Last night, the worst team in the NBA(Pistons) took the Lakers into double OT. I think if the Kings are doing it routinely even if losing then it would show some progress but right now, it's hard to say if it's anything other than the team just getting up for one game.

The last time Brown hit or was hit was by Jerome Iginla and since then Dusty Bottoms has not been himself...he's trying to be something he's not and that's skilled...I'd be frustrated as hell if I was Kopi-Star to play with Brown the coattails rider

You know you are a bad team when you make Chandler Stephenson a number one Star!!!

We do have some holes to fill to become a bonfide play-off team and Stanley Cup contender... Not sure a Owen Power fixes our D? Maybe a Powers and... I would not have Brown back even for sentimental purposes, though I'd like to see Carter find his mojo again

I'm complaining because he can't skate anymore. The team is supposed to be getting faster. If you think he's always been bad with the puck go back and watch the 2012 playoff run -- he was total beast -- with and without the puck. The good news is his contract hasn't been or will be an issue. Great player but his time appears to be up.

I agree he’s lost a step and he was a beast in 2012, but let’s not pretend like he was a great dangler or pinpoint passer during that run, which was my point in the original post. He set the tempo with physicality and finishing.

He could at least make passes and plays back then. He killed at least 5 chances this game from bobbled pucks and passes to no one. He's so occupied with trying to get Kopi the puck - which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, but Kopi could have 4 guys draped on him and Brown will still give him a pass into his skates.

I'll always love Brownie for what he did for the Kings. Dudes a dinosaur in hockey years. Nothing against Kopi but stripping him if the captaincy was a very difficult thing for me to watch as a fan.
