Farabee is ahead of Frost even though he's a year younger, and when he fills out his frame he'll be a lot stronger.
If you can't see that Farabee's hockey sense is more advanced than Frost, well . . . this was evident at the WJ-20.
And Farabee improved substantially in the second half.

Farabee struggled in the playoffs, as would have Frost, neither was ready for the more physical play and smaller windows.
But players often make huge jumps between 19 and 22, so that doesn't bother me at all.

Prospects do get coddled, look at Frost's % of O-zone starts: 58.5%, Couts 51.7%, Bunnaman 50.6%, Hayes 46.0%, Laughton 43.7%

Not that I would actually want to do this because he sucked the last two years, but how great would it be to stick a finger in the eye of Rags fans by signing Henrik Lundqvist to backup Hart and then win a Cup in Philly.

One unknown factor is what happens if the AHL can't resume play, or delays its start months after the start of the NHL season.
Does the NHL expand rosters to allow a "black aces" group to practice with NHL teams.
Will "black aces" be able to play?

I could see a situation where AV works in "black aces" into the lineup to give them some experience during the season.
As long as the Coronavirus is out there, teams have to prepare for losing multiple players for weeks at a time.

It's also easy to think he could be worse, especially against the Islanders, whose style of play was the worse matchup he could face.
Remember, Vorobyev was almost as bad as Stewart in the regular season, Faarabee and Pitlick posted xGF as bad as Grant and Thompson.

Which is why I don't get the big deal, there's no reason to think playing Frost would have had any impact on the final outcome.

It’s not easy to think he would have been worse. Not even necessarily Frost being worse, but I really struggle to believe that that was the best possible lineup they could put together. You really think Frost at LW and some combination of Laughton/Raffl/Bunnaman at 3c and 4c could possibly be worse than the lineup they actually played? I’ll fully acknowledge that Frost in for Thompson probably would not have been the difference between them getting thoroughly dominated and not, if you acknowledge that it’s highly unlikely it would have resulted in them getting dominated even worse. If we can agree on that, it’s pretty obvious why most fans would want Frost to get playoff exposure.

And before you argue that playing Frost before he was “ready” would have done some irreparable harm to his development, we both know that’s complete bs. It’s not like it was taking him away from AHL experience to get blasted in the NHL. He was sitting around in a bubble, not developing at all.

Frost wasn't "sitting around in a bubble," he was practicing with the team.

Which is why a "black aces" or something similar will be required if the AHL can't open this winter - teams need their close to NHL prospects to at least practice with the team to prepare them in case of injury or infection.

Frost would have struggled with the physicality of the Islanders, Farabee, TK and Sanheim did, and they were more NHL ready than Frost. The Islanders are probably the most physical forward group in the NHL, and they create problems with their forecheck, you have to fight for the puck to keep them from cycling it.

This is why you need balance for the playoffs, you don't know who you're gonna play each year, as TB showed, balance allows you to match-up against different styles of opponents.

Flyers have been one of the smallest teams in the NHL, an influx of young forwards will change that up front, but with York and Zamula as our top two D-men prospects, we'll have one of the smallest defenses around - and that does make you vulnerable to teams that crash the net with big bodies (Hart's a great goalie, but if you allow teams to consistently set up screens in front of him, he's not superman).
