Well this season is also going to show how competent Tmac is. That's going to play a role on how well the Kings play

With Luff and Grundstrom subject to waivers - I assume they will make it. The forward group is already crowded so don't know the Kings would carry more than these 2 extra forwards and risk sitting a young player when they can play in the AHL.
What is a "Luff"? Ooh, I might have one in my bathroom. Good to get dead skin off.

Thought it was interesting that a lot of the quotes referenced being accustomed to the system and not thinking as hard now. So I agree.

The possession numbers were excellent. The defense was average. The goaltending was poor early, much better late. The special teams were horrid most of the season, then better at the end. The offense was second worst in the league. At the very least the first two categories need to stay as they were. If the team improves to league average special teams and offense, that gets you into the playoff picture. That's the key. Not getting worse at the things the team was best at last season and improving in those other categories. I have faith the goaltending will be better. Quick looked like Quick during the final stretch and more starts for Petersen should help the team. Vilardi is the lynchpin for this team's ceiling. If he's in the running for the Calder Trophy, that changes everything.

Hoven and Bernstein were talking on their podcast the other day that talking to some of the older players like Doughty and Quick and the rest that they were kind of pissed off that people were writing them off or questioning if whether playoffs is the goal or not. Maybe some of doubters in the media will be massive motivation for these guys. I'm not saying they will make the playoffs or they should make the playoffs, but we need to see some fight out of these guys this year and I think we will see that. My prediction is that this team will come flying out of the gates trying to make a point and then we'll cool down towards the end and just miss the playoffs.

But yes, a lot of things need to go right. Better goaltending to start the year and imo that's what sunk our season, improved special teams to be hopefully league average, and Vilardi and Carter remain healthy, and then a Doughty bounce back year. All of which I think could happen in a shortened season.

Someone might want to tell the vets that the team has finished as the 3rd worst team over the last 2 years. That earns doubt.

As much as it hurts, I wouldnt mind 1 last year of sucking and getting a top 3 or top 5 pick.

Let us shed $10M of dead cap between Phaneuf and Kovy, let the kids get 1 year of experience\ we see who is an NHL'er and who isnt with this batch of potential graduations.

Then next year, after another top prospect and excellent draft, we can have farewell tours for Brown & Carter. More kids graduate & getting experience. Following year is Quick's turn to hang em up.

2023-2024 season, we win the Cup. Kopitar retires a champion and gets the jersey retired. I'm calling it all now :)

I'll bet you .1 eth that does not happen.

A hot start is going to put any team in a great position for a playoff spot in a shortened season. Usually quality shows over a full year, wouldn't be a shock at all to see some surprising teams in and out of the playoffs.

I'm with you but 2 more years. '22 draft is gonna be Siiick. Bad for B-Rad and Lame for Shane.

Let's make it 5 more years! Heck, let's just write off the next decade. 2020s suck. Just imagine the prospect pool by 2030! The 2033 Cup is ours!

IF and it's a big IF, everyone stays healthy with no major injuries, I'm saying that they make the playoffs this season. Making my call.
I'm liking the mindset they're showing, not only during the last week, but also this past 10 months. I think the talent is there, a bit young, but it's there.
The team chemistry appears to be solid. Not so sure other teams in the West or Honda division look like world beaters.
Yup, they make it this season.

The success of a team is highly dependent on players staying healthy and not missing games. Every season there will be teams that underperform and surprisingly miss the playoffs, almost always associated with player-games lost to injury.

I think the Kings are optimistically a healthy bubble team, realistically a black-hole team, and a doormat if major outbreaks occur on the team or major players get major injuries.
