I think the issue is Hoven threw it out there like it was a done deal the night before free agency started and then crickets. Similar to his Williams is going to be traded comments years ago. He’s obviously got connections but when he does stuff like this I think people doubt his credibility.

Him and Berstein are usually about 60 pct right. The both all but guaranteed Williams being traded in 2014. Same with the Thornton to the Kings bs. I don't really take much stock to what he says about trades and such anymore.

I think people need to chill out on blaming Mayor and Berstein on not getting rumours right. They are only reporting what there here at that moment. Do you people not realize it can change from hour to hour? Here a probable scenario
Blake ok we offer player a and b for c and d
other assistant gm sounds good to me but let me run it by my gm I don't see a problem.
Blake tells mayor we are trading player a
Other assistant gm calls back and say can we get player z instead of b
Blake says no deal done
How is this the mayors fault ? it isn't trades fall apart at the last moment all the time

HaHaHa!

I blame the Mayor for being stuck in glam-rock WWF spandex all these decades and his clown-shoes narcissistic cringeworthy personality.

Me, me, me, me, me! ... “I broke that story weeks ago”.

Of course he is gonna shill some manure so he can satisfy his juvenile drives.

Even TMZ and Perez Hilton’s are classier than John. At least they glamorize the low-rent content and not themselves.

Mayor was totally scoping the crowd at the Cuckoo's Nest from Zubie’s thinking “I’m gonna be one of the cool kids some day”.

Pretty simple, either choose to be a responsible insider reporter with verified content or choose to give opinion and conjecture.

Either is perfectly fine, but its difficult to have any sort of credibility when that line is consistently straddled. And yeah, the "you heard it here first" stuff is for boards like this, its offputting coming from someone who wants to known as a solid source of information.

I have another probable scenario, a much more probable one:

Blake doesn't tell "Mayor" a f***ing thing about trades.

Again though, I don't have an issue if he floats something he has heard but you open yourself up to criticism when you act like it is a certainty. If you wind up being wrong on trades/UFA signings most of the time, then it can be questioned if you actually have inside info as it pertains to those type of moves or if you are generating clicks. Joe Thornton comes to mind as one of the latter. If you want to talk about injury updates, prospect news and player movement between Ontario/LA then I'll say Hoven is connected in this regard. He's also done very well since the end of this past season with the quality of his podcast guests. Getting the new jersey design scoops correct all of the time doesn't mean anyone one here should be prefacing comments with "Mayor says..." on every topic, however.

They also should not be calling him "The Mayor". JFC.

I personally am enamoured with the scenario that an NHL GM immediately calls a blogger to leak a trade that hasn’t happened yet

A lot of folks know the story with the Williams thing, but jumping the gun to suggest he was on the block or asking to be dealt was not realistic, it was just trying to be first on something.

So yeah, when I see him putting up a picture of a UFA, my first thought isn't to get excited, its to wonder if he is putting a credible 2 and 2 together to come up with a questionable 5 to show off later.

Lmao some of y'all are tearing John Hoven a new one. Chill the f*** out. Dude has been right on more stuff than not and has been the go to source on most Kings related items. At least we have someone covering kings rumors consistently now. The more coverage the better.

This is fair.

I was disappointed when it didn't work out, and knew people would come out to criticize him when it was announced otherwise.

I don't ask Hoven who his sources are. For one, I don't need to know. For another, because it's important for the sources to have anonymity.

I don't believe he would have posted it without reasonable expectation that something was happening. Because as you see, credibility takes a hit. Sometimes, though, things don't pan out.

That said, I still hope you and others continue to follow. We do work very hard in all our content to keep it up to date, free, informative, and entertaining.

I follow him and appreciate the articles, especially the prospect related stuff. I'm also not going to tear him apart if a rumor doesn't happen and posting a picture of a Kahun jersey is nothing like the aforementioned Williams and Thornton stuff. I mean, BFD if they sign Kahun or not.

It's just cringe inducing when people call him "The Mayor" and quote him as if he is gospel.

Blake probably sees The Mayor and says, "Yeah he's the guy who rode my ass like Zoro after I was traded to Colorado."

Cmmon guys, I rib John all the time and it’s part of the local flavor. It’s LA. It’s Hollywood baby!

Anyone who ever sat at Staples within earshot of Hoven knows he is a gem, local treasure.

He’s doing it all Glam Rock and it’s just fine by me. Manpree’s and spandex.

When I have any beef with him I email him directly and he has always responded and listened. He a good guy.

There’s only one true Mayor in this town.

So Kahun become the Oilers' 16th forward under one-way contract, which means someone like Yamamoto isn't included.

For comparison, the Kings have 9 forwards under one-way contract.

That's an *awfully* high number of forwards under their ELCs / minor-league deals the Kings seem to plan on having in the lineup. We're a couple of injuries away from being an OHL team. You would really think the Kings would feel a need here.

Or else!

Yet you are actively digging around for something to complain about.

Self awareness is a good skill to work on.
Where did I complain ? I even said never change. If you can't or haven't noticed this fan base is always complaining about something and where they all have to right to post however they want to deny this is a real thing is foolish imo

I don't disagree with the notion, but one of the things their job is to get traffic, and sometimes they blow smoke up the ass of the public to do so.

or we can use this year to see what we have.

Remember that last year the Kings played their best hockey after they wrote an essay for Andy Murray (I kid I kid)
The Kings got better as the season went on and after they traded everyone

Not that this is going to repeat itself but the kids are learning how to play in the league and are potty trained

Is any other fan base any different though?

I don't think this behavior is exclusive to LA Kings fans, like post game bacon wrapped Mexican street hotdogs cooked in shopping carts over charcoal are
