Do we think Tkachyov actually makes the team? Even without him i get the point.

It is a tough sell at $15MM. You'd also have now added two sub-six-foot forwards for the next three years at a combined $9.25MM cap hit, two guys that have seen declining numbers since earning those cap hits with Johnson already being 30 years old. If AEG didn't want to spend ~$5MM on a better 1st round pick from Toronto, they aren't doing this for a worse first round pick from Tampa.

@johnjm22 has the right idea if Johnson were involved: two 1sts and more. Even then, you're possibly having to carry an anchor around in Johnson and that space might keep you from taking a swing at a larger, more important fish all for a late 1st round pick or two. That pick wouldn't be until next year as well so--unless it is flipped as part of some package--when are those assets going to help this team?

Your point still stands, and is a sound one, but the amount owing on Johnson in real dollars is $14M not $15M...really splitting hairs there though.

LA Kings: Trade chatter picking up, Morgan Rielly a potential?

Reilly fits a lot of the profile the Kings are supposedly looking to acquire. And he has a 10 team no trade list. I think he would consider LA if it included a long term deal in the trade. So a minimum of 5 years.

But who are you getting? I don’t think it’s a 70 point guy, because he won’t play with Matthews and Marner on the PP. But is he even a 50 point guy on the Kings? By the time Byfield and company are NHL top six forwards, Reilly will be 30 years old at the earliest.

You’d have to seriously overpay to be in this conversation and I don’t see the leafs making him a cap dump. So it would help the Kings on the ice. But it’s a significant potential gamble in my books, before you get into who goes the other way.

It seems Kempe is the new odd man out. If he does get traded, it’s a prime candidate for a turning gold to shit storyline for the development crew. Someone please remind me of Nelson Emerson’s qualifications for heading development? Afaik, other than being a friend of BLuc, he coached high school kids before getting hired by the Kings?

This^^^^^. Unless Tb says Sergachev or Cernak and TJ for say Kupari and a 2nd. That addresses the 2 needs of a FWD and LHD. Even then we just added $9 million to the cap and leaves us little room for another move if need be at the deadline.

Morgan Reilly would be an improvement on D. TO fans have been complaining that Reilly lacks the big shot on the PP. Not the end of the world, but that is one thing I believe Blake mentioned specifically.

Johnson & Sergachev is about 10M AAV. For that money Kings could sign any UFA D.

I will say that I have not been impressed with The Athletic's LA Kings coverage this season and offseason. It has noticeably declined in frequency of articles and content quality. I think the entire package is still worth it for other teams, league-wide articles, and other sports, but yeah, disappointing locally.

Edit: I will add that the Ducks coverage has noticeable improved in the same amount of time, which is odd given that according to fan surveys there are definitely more Kings fans on the site than Ducks fans. Eric Stephens had an article on Jamie Drysdale recently that was fantastic.

He is one of the reasons we haven't been able to develop decent top 6 wingers in a decade. (Toffoli being the only one). Remember Sheldon Rempal? Nelson said we should be watching this kid, he is special etc... He is a bust.

Well rumors are LA is looking to bring in another top 6 and have been linked to Saad and Schwartz. So maybe one of them.

I think we need the defense fixed first If we can get them generating some offense it will help the forward in the long run. We do have Arty, Fagemo .Thomas and Kapari coming. We really have no offensive defenseman in the pipeline imo
