If it was up to me anyone outside of Dach/Boqvist/Mitchell would be available at the right price. As much as I'd hate to trade Kubalik if the price was right, sure.(that price is probably a massive overpay)

I’m not necessarily. When Dach, Boqvist, and Mitchell are ready to compete — Toews and Kane will be able to be excellent supporting players for them.

At this point though, I’m with I think it was @x Tame Impala who said to let Toews and Kane play together and rack up points while guys on the other lines develop together.

Yeah and I'm sticking by it. There are too many things that are IMO way too hard to get past in order for the Hawks to be Cup contenders the next 2-3 years. If they're not going to win I'd happily take seeing T & K ride out into the sunset of their careers with Toews being PPG and Kane being a 90+ point player and passing Mikita. That'd be personally very satisfying as a fan and would alleviate (at least a little bit) the disappointment in not seeing a 4th Cup win.

That's me in the corner
Sorry I was just disregarding that point and notion of his so I didn't get what you were really saying.

Got it, that makes. I don’t think it’s a totally bad idea, but I think if you do that, then you’re just rebuilding and there’s no point in trying to ice a competitive team next year.

The forward group is too weak defensively to make up for losing two of your better, if not best, defensive defensemen. This team already sucked with them and two excellent goalies, so it’s rational to believe they’ll be worse without them and maybe one good goalie.

Yep, I’m with you. I think you push back the target date for being competitive to probably the 23-24 season. (Remember when Bowman said 12-18 months? Lol.)

Hopefully by then, Dach is a 1C, and either Boqvist or Mitchell emerge as a 1D. If not, then you have money to potentially overpay for one on the UFA market with the Toews/Kane/Keith deals expired.

Or if we suck in 2020-21, we get a top-3 pick and get one of Owen Power and Brandt Clarke. Both are future 1D IMO. Luke Hughes also has that potential but he doesn’t look like as sure a bet as those two just yet.

Toews, Kane and Keith are guys I would like to see retire Hawks unless they want out...A young team needs a couple older vets to lead and who is better than those three...Its up to hockey ops now to draft and develop which they've failed to do for too long imo

This team isn't far off from a season that Dallas put together this year...Its time for Stan to earn his keep and make some moves that get this team back where it should be...Dallas acquired Pavelski and Perry and Tampa acquired Maroon, Shattenkirk and Bogosian...When is the last time Stan made a signing via UFA worth a damn...Beaver? Shaw and CdH were mostly dud trades, Maatta was fine...Kubalik was awesome and rest of roster regressed or was about what they've been for a while...

We don’t have a Hedman or Heiskanen though. That’s the biggest difference. Unless Boqvist or Mitchell steps up and proves to be absolutely dynamic in 2020-21.

or a lindell klingberg sergachev

Lindell and Klingberg were later round picks. Stan's had picks in rds 2-7 in almost every draft and mostly whiffed in recent years, it just cant happen year after year and expect to compete, and Sergachev was a bold trade by Yzerman after they had just selected Drouin 3rd overall...By no means was that a slam dunk trade for Tampa...The point is that its time for Stan to earn his keep and start developing players and making good acquisitions consistently...For every Kubalik there is like 10mil+ in cap locked up in Shaw, De Haan and Smith...Great orgs draft and develop well, churn out nhl players and find bargain value vets and reclamation projects to build depth and we've sucked in those areas for way too long relative to the competition...Cant sit here and say we don't have the pieces other teams have when the Hawks get the same amount of draft picks every year and can spend to the cap...The state of the team boils down to hockey ops failing at their jobs

Will County
Let Crawford walk if he wants to push on money...He said money wasnt his top priority then it became his top priority...This team isn't competing for a cup next year, if they suck then who cares, draft a franchise defenseman

Imagine getting multiple firsts next year and somehow falling into two of Clarke/Power/Lambos/Hughes for the next draft

D would be permanently set for the decade

Hopefully referring to Murphy or Maatta.

If the Hawks could unload Murphy, I'd be ecstatic. You simply can't have Dmen in your top-4 who can't m0ve the puck in the NHL today. I'd love to clear the deck on defense tbh. Move out De Haan, Maatta and Murphy. Tis but a pipedream though.
