If they’re good enough to knock Caggiula out of the lineup, why didn’t they?

One was a 19 yr old rookie in AHL (Kurashev)
One was a 20 yr old rookie in AHL (Entwistle)
One was a 21 yr old rookie in AHL (Hagel)

Seriously all 3 just played 1st professional season... Of course none were going to be on Hawks roster this past season

How so?

Virtanen struggles defensively and really does nothing great

The fact Canucks are so open to moving 24 yr old player should be major red flag as teams tend to want to keep young talent intact when trying to build a contender

Yeah. You’re right. But they have a lot in the pipeline on the right side. Virtanen is a big boy, a 3rd scoring line with him and Dach would be pretty dynamic. Suter/Kubalik would probably be a nice fit on the left wing too.

Right, so why are you so confident they’re ready to replace Caggiula now?

But really, it doesn’t matter. It’s a punted year anyway if Murphy and Maatta/de Haan are gone.

You want no part of him at $4 million, which it seems it’s going to cost at minimum, but then you get mad at me for the other stuff I said related to him being too expensive.

You don’t let Strome or Kubalik go just so Crawford can mentor Delia in a throwaway season.
What? I want no part of him at 4mil. If it cost more than 3.25, I say go in a different direction. I don't understand what else you are arguing here.

You can fit everyone in if Crawford or another goalie, make 3mil or less.

Nothing

There is no point in hypotheticals about Kane , Keith or Toews.... Unless they demand trade none are moving

Last thing this franchise needs when its fallen back into obscurity is to trade faces of franchise and remind people that its still a Wirtz running show

Rocky would again kill hockey in Chicago
im not sure you understand what a hypothetical is

That there’s no point in bringing him back at $4 million if Murphy is gone.

$3.25 million isn’t happening, it would be done already if it was going to happen.

Ya, I mostly agree. Unless Dach takes another huge step and DeBrincat/Strome/Nylander suddenly play two-way hockey. Also, Mitchell needs to come in as a first pairing on day one (don’t see it).
I don't see much of a downgrade in the D if we trade Murphy for futures, and replace him with Mitchell. I really don't. But I am also not as high on Murphy as some here, I feel like he's a decent 4/5 on his best days.

Yes. I believe that’s the correct answer.

Quit messing around with it and move to Kubalik’s extension, and maybe Strome’s too.
Those guys are RFAs, you can take your time with them and bring their asking price down. I really don't want to see Stan just hand a cheque to them, play a little hardball for once.

I mean, just the fact that it’s a “kid” stepping onto NHL ice for the first time and playing against bigger/stronger/faster competition than he’s ever seen should result in an immediate downgrade from Murphy, no?

Maybe Mitchell quickly picks it up as the season progresses, but do you think he’s going to be as good defensively as Murphy is from the start?

If that’s what he’s actually doing, that’s fine. I just don’t have enough faith in him to believe that’s what he’s doing. But I’m just a fan.

I don't think Murphy is anything special defensively, but I don't feel like Mitchell has to fill that role, himself. DeHaan, Maatta, KK, and Murphy are all redundant. Decent defensive players with very little offensive punch. Give Maatta and KK a bit of a bigger role, Keith Mitchell can handle their own, and then a learning group of Carlsson/Boqvist/whoever else to fill our the bottom pair.

From Friedman's 30 thoughts

The sheer volume of free-agent goalies is affecting the trade market at the position. Teams are wondering if it is worth giving up an asset when they can simply sign someone. Pittsburgh has run into that issue as it tries to clear its crease.

On one hand Crawford can look at that and say "See I have other options" but on other hand the market is flooded with options and Corey risks being left standing without a seat when the music stops
