WC: 2019 US Roster Discussion

Why the hell shouldnt he go exactly? Hes the best US player and one of the best in the world, I dont see why he shouldnt play if he wants to and is able to. The US hasnt won this tournament since 1933 when not counting Olympic years, and Kane hasnt won at the international level since U18s. Why should USA hinder themselves by not taking the best US player if hes available? What a ridiculous statement.

Because he is 30 and he cares more about his NHL career? It's not a best on best tournament and why are we bringing the Hughes brothers then?

Who cares if it isnt a best on best tournament? If he wants to come let him come, hes arguably the best US born player ever and if hes available youd be stupid not to bring him. Hes already got 3 Stanley Cups for crying out loud. Its a good thing youre not the US GM. Your logic makes no sense.

if organizers were to move up the date of the tournament to mid April the excuse would be lack of recovery time, therefore I can't accept an invite. There are players who have little to zero interest in this tournament. I would just leave a standing invitation with those players. It's obvious you are not drawn to international hockey, in the future if there are any international tournaments in the offing, including Olympics if the NHL decides on participation, and you wish to be considered for a roster spot, then contact us and let us know. You will be considered at that time.

That's how I would deal with the Cam Fowlers and Drew Doughtys of the world. Although, Doughty probably has a little bit more leverage over Hockey Canada then does Cam with USAH.

I'm fine with Blashill returning. He works well with younger players and has done well with young teams at this tournament. Hopefully we get Larkin and Jimmy Howard! I can see several Devils playing as well.

If they can't get Gibson i prefer Campbell. I think Howard is way past his prime and Schneider with all his injuries is not great option this year either. I think Demko actually could do what Gibson and Hellebuyck did in this tournament when they were not regular NHLers.

I disagree. Howard had a good year and was very good at this event last year. I think he would be the ideal starter with Campbell backing him up and maybe Demko as the 3rd option.

I think this is most of our hope/most realistic option-

Howard
Campbell
Demko

all 3 could use some more hockey as Howard did play in over 50 games, but statistically his worst season, though can't blame him for much with team he played behind most nights...I can see Howard wanting to end on a strong note, his HC is our HC and some strong names already have accepted...

the two starting goalies we are most likely to see has their HC here, so we should get one of Howard or Schneider, I would be shocked if we didn't get one of them to be honest unless Gibby or Quick says they are coming.
 
Blake Coleman, Kyle Palmieri, and Will Butcher (RFA) are all getting married this summer. Doesn't bode well for any of them showing up, even if Coleman was the only likely one anyway.
 
whatever little hope there was for Parise is gone. was playing on a broken foot as well as a slight tear in his leg I believe...dude just can't stay healthy but hell of a player though.
