Yeah, Hughes looks fine. The lines were getting shuffled in the 2nd quite a bit, but his line was pretty good in the first.
I thought they were out on the first goal. My mistake.
He's not moving his feet the way he can to close with and initiate with his man. Keller did break his ankles at both bluelines biting on the first pass and then instead of getting to Kahun on the second goal.
Agreed, I thought he made things happen while much of the US roster was sleepy in the first period.
Is Schneider really the #1 Goalie ?

Not in the 2nd period. In one shift alone, lost the puck like 3 times. Fell (neutral zone, closed to d zone blue line)
-> caused team Germany a counter attack
On one shift he was all over the place in both sides of the ice, nowhere, everywhere, didn't know where to go, where to be.
I'm sure he will be fine thou, it just takes time for Jack to get used to play against men, how to read the game properly,etc. etc.
its a whole new ball park to jump from juniors to men.

It was a weak goal but goalies, all of them, give up weak goals. He's the #1 for now, although Demko will certainly see some action as well.
There's zero evidence for the lack of confidence angle.
Schneider has been fine. Yes first goal was soft but he also took some really big saves in first period. In second goal he did everything possible but D couldn't back him up.

Hughes pass and JvR scores. I expect that these two can be pretty nice pair in this tournament.
That Hughes assist was pretty. And it was against men. Grown men.

Not really. Hughes and his line was quiet in the 2nd, but he's not playing any differently than he was in the 1st. He's 17, playing against professionals for the first time, with players he's never played with beyond his brother. He has an assist and he's making things happen out there.
