is Woo on a bit of a run offensively? every post seems to have him getting an assist or a goal in the last 6 or 7 games

Yes he is as he is being put on offensive roles now.

Calgary's best offensive and overall Dman - Egor Zamula went to the WJC then opted for surgery on a nagging injury afterwards.

Woo has been playing PP1 along with his regular shutdown role and has done so very well. It seems his lack of development this year has been greatly exaggerated and a lot of it was his role on his Junior team.

If Madden is up for it they should get him to the pros. Playing the disorganized college game with and against inferior competition isn't gonna grow him much in terms of play when he's already the best player.

If he feels it necessary to take advantage of the opportunity to bulk up another year then that makes sense but will likely delay his arrival as a NHLer.

Love me some Madden but he is not one we should rush. Having seen Northeastern games this year its quite obvious that he isnt physically ready for the Pro Game. He doesnt skate well enough to get away with it too like a Hughes.
What he does posses is a pro level never quit motor. His hands and skills are also above average for the NCAA. However i still see him get outmuscled or knocked off the puck numerous times in a game.

The last thing we want to do is get him to the AHL too early. He will get benched and rightfully so as he is just isnt ready for the level. Look what happened with Kole Lind last year. IMO this will stunt Madden's growth.

Keep him in the NCAA where they play 1 or twice a week and the rest of the time they are practicing and or in the weight room. This would be very beneficial for Madden.

Lots of potential with him, take your time.

I hear what your saying and i can see the value in him taking another year to grow his body but he really needs to play pro hockey and learn how to be effective at a higher level. I don't see skating as an issue like it was for Lind and Gadjovich and he would be starting as a 99 born the same age as Lind and Gadjo this year. Whatever course he decides i'm ok with

How does he play games with Vancouver this year and then go on a playoff run with the Comets? Isn't it Vancouver sign and done when Vancouver's season ends, but burns a year of his ELC or ATO and plays on the Comets?

I think you might be right.

ATO with Utica, no burn, ELC starts 20-21 OR ELC signed for 19-20, burns 1 year, can't play AHL because he wouldn't be papered onto Utica roster before deadline.

exactly. we expended a third rn pick on him only, we can afford to slow cook him so his body and bad habits catch up to the pro game. we have enough prospects on deck to slow play him.

Based on what? Look at Makar, Boeser, loads more. It doesn’t hurt one iota to keep playing in a league down to build strength and confidence. On the other hand, innumerable players have been ruined by rushing them to the next level.

Some other poster said it best.....Madden is on almost the exact career path as Gaudette....right down to the same scoring stats in his freshman and sophomore seasons.

My bet is as well that he goes back to Northeastern for his Junior year and comes out at the end of next season.

if madden turns pro, it is pretty hard not to offer him the same deal we offered gaudette, which means burning off a year of elc. not sure if you can do that and have him play in the ahl playoffs.

What makes you say Boeser improved? His stats did not, though some was team related. Maker obviously would have had great rookie year last year as well. If you are a top player in league you should move up if possible, even if you struggle you have another year to adjust.

Gaudette turned pro after his junior season. Madden is only a sophomore. There's no urgency for the Canucks to sign Madden to an ELC this season.

i suppose the canucks might ask him to stay in school, but that is not generally a good idea for player relations. if he wants to turn pro and his parents support it, he's having a good year and the kid is 20 not 18.

i am also not sure the fact he is a year younger would give us a rational reason to say no to burning an elc year if he asked? is there precedent for that in terms of how teams negotiate elcs for college kids?

the problem i see is any difference at all in treatment between two kids from the same school, same position and tracking in a very similar way is going to be a problem.

Tracking in a similar way, yes, and the one who signed the ELC at the end of his college junior season wasn't quite NHL-ready when he showed up for a five-game stint.

There starts to be some urgency in the matter at the end of a college player's junior season, because teams don't want to risk having them stay for their senior season and then becoming UFA's the following summer. No such urgency with sophomores.

No reason for the Canucks to give Madden an ELC effective this season. If he wants to turn pro, sign him to an ELC for next season and offer him an ATO if he'd like to get a start on things right away in Utica.

Lockwood wants to sign with Vancouver even after his 4 years.

Honestly I'd offer an ELC that starts 20-21 with an ATO to finish year in Utica. Believe his ELC will be a 2 year deal and I'd want both of those years of development to see if we can turn him into something.

It's good to see that Lockwood has some interest in signing with the Canucks. I see him as a Brandon Tanev type of player.

Linus Karlsson has moved from Karlskrona HK --> BIK Karlskroga of the Allsvenskan. Karlsson had 8G 14A 22Pts in 36GP for Karlskrona HK, and since joining BIK has 2A in 1GP. Hopefully he has a larger role, and can have a mini breakout offensively with BIK Karlskroga.

cool beans

his new team is neck and neck with timra for third place and nearly 20 points ahead of his old one in the standings and has scored 50 more goals than his old team while allowing 10 fewer goals.

should be interesting.
