The thing is that Woo was tracking really well in his D+1 year but has taken a step back this year.

Played on an absurdly stacked #1 PP last year which inflated his stats, is asked to be the #1 defensive guy this year while another guy speaks up the prime PP time.

Truth is somewhere in the middle.

Madden is on fire at Northeastern.....basically carrying the team on his back. Beginning to seriously wonder if Madden might bypass Utica altogether and just show up on the ice with the Canucks. Unless what he's doing as basically a 19 year old (he just turned 20 this month) against older, bigger NCAA players is a mirage, then he's that good.

I don’t see how he could step right into the Canucks lineup, there is a significant step up to the AHL and the. To the NHL and he’ll need to learn about the speed and physicality. In addition, The Canucks will likely be much more competitive than they were for the last few years. I would expect him to start in Utica if he signs in the summer. It wouldn’t surprise me tho if he got a game or two at the end of the year simply to burn a year from his ELC

Madden's production is pretty interesting.

If Madden were to start with the Canucks next season, I suppose it would have to be on the wing. Either that, or there would need to be injuries coming out of exhibition play, or the Canucks would have found a way to move Beagle or Sutter.

I remember when his pick was announced, sooooo many posters here were upset and incredulous that the Canucks would pass over someone as talented as Jake Wise to select a small grinder like Madden.

2 seasons later, Wise has still yet to find his first NCAA goal and has 3 points in 11 games on the season while Madden is already up to 14 in 12.

There was such an outrage over wasting a 3rd round pick on what was essentially a bust. The same kind of outrage that followed the Adam Gaudette pick, and he's been a real bust with 8 points in 11 NHL games this season.

Yes hes a good pick, just like Gaudette, its just too bad the management team here didnt have much insite to know they should have been stockpiling a TON more picks well the team was suppose to be rebuilding. But yes, Wise was a big faller and we all thought he would land in our laps but the Canucks ALSO chose to pass on him, so there was a reason all the GMs passed on him too, luckily Vancity followed all the other teams passing on him too and got Madden

Secondly, there was outrage with picking a unheard of guy at 149 in the 2015 draft?

Madden is still having a challenge with his faceoff percentage. Obviously he's worked at it, but if it's still not all that great in college, he's not ready to play centre in the NHL unless a more-able linemate can take the draws. Probably connected to this is his extremely slender build and light weight. On the other hand, we all might have thought a small guy like Quinn Hughes couldn't play D in the NHL, so for sure times have changed, and Madden might excel like Hughes is doing. But I still have problems thinking that Madden could replace Beagle on an NHL shutdown line facing the league's top centres. I agree that for now, at least, his NHL role would be a shifty, darting, high-IQ playmaking right winger. Not great on the wall but talented in the open ice. A little bit like a diet version of Pettersson.

I think people overated the importance of winning faceoffs yeah it's important on special teams but even strength it not really that important. Most of the great centers in the nhl are not great at faceoffs.

Does he have to play center at the NHL level ? Looks like we have a pretty young group of NHL centers already, might have to break in as a winger

Luckily we have Malholtra on staff. We should just send him out to Madden for a weekday workshop.

Yeah Woo was not drafted for offence. But how has he looked otherwise? Still rusty from the injury?

I remember Chicago being livid after the Hughes and Madden pick as they picked right after us.
Looking at the GMs face and his scouting team they were up in arms.

Look at Madden's USHL production, I don't think anyone could have projected such an incredible increase in the NCAA. He was barely in the top 100 in production league wide. Meanwhile Jake Wise had been producing at nearly double Madden's rate (while in hindsight clearly benefitting from a powerhouse team and not being fast enough to produce on his own)

Madden was a great scouting job, to see his potential would have required good eyes on the ground. Judd Brackett has also been keeping tabs on him since 2015-16

Madden with 2 goals in the 1st. McDonough with 2 assists.
Mind-boggling really...and consider that this version of Northeastern isn't nearly as good as last year's team and certainly nowhere near as good as the teams Gaudette played on.

Madden is basically carrying this team's offense on his back.....I don't know how he projects as a pro, but count me as impressed with his progress so far.

I really thought this was a cool goal
Just creative. Most people when they catch a d-man completely flat footed would go wide, not stop and do a give and go.
