However, a lot depends where other targeted players land, or if a coveted prospect slides to the Canucks. U.S. National Team Development Program forwards Trevor Zegras and Matthew Boldy are also on the wish-list along with Swedish defencemen Victor Soderstrom and Philip Broberg.

It looks like i will have a ticket to both the Meet and greet thurs with the Sedins, and also to the Fri night draft. If anyone is interested in either, let me know. They are only available on my phone, so no you can't resell them, you have to meet me at the event. We will need to coordinate ahead of time, as I will be golfing in WA Tues - Thurs. Message me if interested.

More on the Canucks and Krebs:

Ben Kuzma: Canucks don’t expect surgery to drop Peyton Krebs’ draft stock

Ignore the headline on it since Benning pretty much admits that they don't know enough about Krebs injury yet to say either way.

So Canucks want either Zegras/Boldy/Krebs/Newhook/Broberg/Soderstrom...

Pretty much what all of HFCanucks want LOL! Pretty much confirms we’re taking BPA is, which is a sigh of relief. I’m 100 percent confident we’re taking whoever falls in this draft... if no one falls I can see the Canucks taking Broberg/Soderstrom, as I don’t feel like Pods is an option.

Actually there are more then a good chunk of us that don’t want a defencemen.
Thanks for the link!

Benning didn't say anything new at all, just that he likes qualities that scouts have been saying about Krebs.

Good cause this injury shouldn’t drop his stock.

Where did I say it wasn’t?

I said the 2 years of his contract is irrelevant, not the risk that he might *never* come over. Those are entirely different things.

If he says he definitely wants to play in the NHL but not until his contract expires in 2021, then you treat him like any other prospect that won’t be NHL ready until that time - which is pretty much all of them.

If he says he’s unsure about the NHL or you get bad vibes from your interviews, then you avoid. Pretty simple.

I agree. Podkolzin staying in Russia for 2 years shouldn't be a factor in where the team ranks him. Heck, even the Sedins were pretty sure they would play at least another year in Sweden and wanted to play an extra year before making the move over to the NHL.

With that said, I think you do take into consideration the "Russian Factor" when trying to slot him on your draft list. All else being equal, I take the guy I know will be willing to develop in the AHL if they aren't ready to make an impact at the NHL level. But if Podkolzin, Russian Factor aside, is the clearcut BPA you take him.

Happy to *finally* hear Boldy is on the wish list, even if it confirmed Soderstrom and Broberg are too.

Kuzma's report seems to conflict with reports from other sources. No one mentions Soderstrom except Kuzma. Dhaliwal also poured cold water on the Broberg rumour by saying that he will not come in for a 2nd interview. Last, it was suggested that Boldy and Caufield were not high on the Canucks' BPA list because of skating issues. I believe this was via Botchford.

Take it all together, and the only target throughout that has been corroborated by more than one source has been Zegras. Next to him, Newhook is the other player that has been linked via multiple rumours and has received a 2nd interview. Krebs is set to interview. That's about it.

Makes ya wish we had another 1st round pick... so Benning can just grab a D bit later in the 1st. Seems like there’s several options that fall in the 12th+ OA range.

Kuzma seems to want Soderstrom personally, or something. He's been the only person to even mention him, and he's done it repeatedly in pretty much every draft article. I'd note recently the Canucks seem to be downplaying the chance of picking a defenseman at 10 OA, though. Who knows who they actually want ... they did a whole song and dance before picking Pettersson. If Boldy is there it's a no-brainer for me. Run up and pick him. Same with Zegras (pretty much zero chance of this one, imo). I do not really have a preference out of Krebs, Newhook, Broberg, and Caufield. Will leave that one to the scouts.

I am frankly shocked no media member has asked Benning a question about Podkolzin. It looks like he's going to be right in our range.

EDIT: Actually, to be fair, Button had us taking Sodertstrom in his first mock draft in April. He now has Soderstrom going at 17 OA.

I actually think Moritz Seider will be a better D option than the guys being talked about in the 10-15 range. It kinda reminds me of 2016 when people were talking about Chychrun, Sergachev and Juolevi, but McAvoy looked like he could be the better option (but was rated a bit lower).

Taking Newhook at 10, and then moving up from our 2nd round pick to grab Seider in the back half of round 1 would be nice.

Seider is soaring after that WC performance. Getting some Hampus Lindholm comparisons now, which I kind of like. I think he plays with a bit more of an edge though, maybe more of a defensively focused Parayko

I wouldn't be surprised if Seider is gone by the 15th pick, he could even be the 2nd dman off the board. Seider is a right shot, which is a real nice bonus on top of his skills and could jump him up higher than the public lists have him.

These quotes around Boldy, Newhook, Krebs are interesting. The sentiment that we will take the most skilled player available at 10 is good. Apparently they really like Broberg but feel that he will be gone before 10. It makes me wonder how Caufield isn't part of the conversation, maybe there is also a notion that he could be gone way before us?

If so, I'm really like our odds at getting a great player who falls out of the top 9 to us

Where did you hear/read this, as I must have missed it? I'm quite interested in where Broberg would fall in their overall rankings assuming he was available.

Thank you. That's a really solid group of three. I approve if that's who they're prioritizing after Zegras (who flat out will not be available). We're pretty much guaranteed one of those players assuming it goes:
1. Hughes 2. Kaapo 3. Byram, 4. Turcotte 5. Zegras 6. Dach 7. Cozens.

Take who is left of Boldy, Newhook, and Broberg at 10 OA. Or someone like Cozens may fall, which is also great.

HP ranking Newhook below Krebs for skill should be an indictment of HP. That just doesn't make sense. Will have to look into it.
Tbh, I have been their biggest cheerleader over the years, but their final list is something odd. I listened to many interviews from mark earlier in the year, he explained that for this scouting season, they switched to a whole new scouting system, which rates each prospect in categories to mimic NHL team's methods. But holy, I can't say I agree with their final conclusion very much. Anyways, something to consider.

I think the wildcard (McAvoy) is Harley.

Just shows you how wild draft day is in terms of consensus rankings, I can definitely see Broberg being a surprise top 6 pick. Centers and defenceman are always a premium.
