Canucks wanna make a splash, I can easily see vancouver make a move for hughes but realistically, try to get byram.

Thomas Harley stat wise looks pretty good. I know he's a LHD so not a priority position for us but why is he so low in the draft rankings?

He's been riing up the rankings
That's part of my point, he'd be a boom or bust type prospect.

In the top 10 you should be looking for a top end player, not a bottom 6 checker. Caufield will be drafted for his scoring ability, and if he hits, he will be a one hell of a good one.

I don't have an issue with that, not trying to say we should be looking for checkers. Just that his offensive potential needs to be limitless if you're going to take that risk.

Caufield or Zegras?
Aren't we soft as butter already besides Horvat in the top 6? Unless were taking Hughes first I'd stay away from the shrimps. This is the order I have 1-10. Podkolzin would be 3 if I knew he'd come though.

Hughes
Kakko
Cozens
Dach
Turcotte
Byram
Broberg
Podkolzin
Boldy
Seider

Just sifting through hrs of shift by shifts and players i have seen this last year. Have to say some players have really caught my eye as excellent prospects. Wanted to share and get some feedback if you've seen them...cheers

2nd rounders

Michal Teply - RW - Liberec Czech Rep. Dynamic offensive player with massive upside. 6'3 frame and fast. I'm actually suprised this guy isn't in the 10-20 range right now. Bet someone takes him high. Would be a steal at 39-42. Michal Teplý at eliteprospects.com

Henry Thrun - LD -USDP - Often plays the right side. Looks like a rock solid player. 2nd best defenseman on a loaded US team for me. Has a pro style game...Going to Harvard. Will be fun to watch with Rathbone. Henry Thrun at eliteprospects.com

Brett Leason RW - Prince Albert WHL -expecting a 2/3 line tweener. Has plenty of size and upside and can kill penalties and will battle. If he slips to the 39-42 range it would be a solid pick. Seen him a bunch live and really like him but after awhile could notice some of his limitations he likely has at the next levels. Brett Leason at eliteprospects.com

Matthew Robertson - LD - Edmonton WHL - Has great range and upside. Has some gap issues , compete levels and offensive limitations that may see him drop to our 2nd range. Matthew Robertson at eliteprospects.com

3rd to 5th rounders:

Justin Bergeron - LD - Rouyn Noranda QMJHL - This guy is a hidden gem. Needs to lengthen out his stride but his gap control IQ and hands are unreal. Very smart positionally and has a strong fast stick. Excellent edges and quick feet but needs to iron out tendency to get over aggressive at the defensive blueline or get flat footed. Really feel like this guy has some tremendous upside and may be a heavy draft riser especially if the Huskies continue to roll in the playoffs and he gets more exposure. If you get a chance watch him. Would be stoked to get him from what i've seen. Justin Bergeron at eliteprospects.com

Simon Lundmark RD - Linkoping SHL - Another player who is being suprisingly overlooked. Has some nice two way abilities, nice gap control and IQ a excellent frame and is already holding his own in the SHL. Kind of reminds me of Markus Pettersson of the Pens but right handed. Lanky player with great potential. Simon Lundmark at eliteprospects.com

Kiril Slepets RW - Loko Yaroslavl MHL - A older player (99) who was missed due to not being a top PP guy and Russia factor. Burner speed and extremely slippery with a tremndous work rate and can score. Was a human highlight reel at the U20's and had many scouts talking. Think Carl Hagelin. Kirill Slepets at eliteprospects.com

Jack "john" Malone RW- Youngstown USHL - Great Hands and rapidly tearing up the USHL. Scored a hattrick in the all star game and is going to Cornell. Skating needs some work but he's a big body with top6 potential. Would be a Brackett special. They should have a good read on his skating. John Malone at eliteprospects.com

HM:

Joe Carrol LW/RW - SS Marie OHL - Buried behind a deep group of stud forwards without any PP. Has excellent wheels and plenty of 3rd line potential or maybe even higher as a Zach Hymen type who can do the dirty work. Has some hands and will likely jump significantly with more opportunity. Definitely a long shot swing for the fences but the skating size and athleticism is intriguing. really caught my eye watching Hayton and Frost Joe Carroll at eliteprospects.com

Reece Newkirk LW Portland WHL - Complete shift disturber who is slippery and does an excellent job getting under opponents skin. Wll have to fill out significantly and get faster to be effective at the next levels but has good hands and can make plays and tremendously competitive. Could be a good 3rd liner. Guy had the Giants rattled everytime he came to town and then hit the scoresheet. Always up to something....ala Tkachuk

Well if he’s actually as advertised and he becomes a scoring force then why not.

just curious...if the devils win the draft lottery and you guys are picking 9th, would you do:

to vancouver: 1st overall, 4th rounder
to NJ: pettersson, 9th overall, 3rd rounder

you immediately replace pettersson with hughes, who has a higher ceiling than pettersson, and you get another brother connection

again, just curious. i come in peace, etc. seems like a good deal for both sides

To put it lightly, f*** no.

To put it realistically, not a f***ing chance in hell. Pettersson is this teams franchise player and will be better than Hughes

wow ok lol never mind then. i think you’re undervaluing hughes but to each their own

Just trying to gauge who ppl think is the better prospect. Not saying Id take them neccesarily, tho i wouldn't rule it out. I prefer Dach/Cozens if we could get one. Id also look at taking a D - Heinola/Soderstrom.

Pettersson > Hughes, let alone Pettersson + 9th overall for Hughes lmao

This is a ridiculous trade proposal. It’s not a “good deal” for both sides. The fact you even suggested to swap 3rd and 4th just adds insult to injury.

Are you saying Hughes is worth Pettersson + 9th?
Seems like you are the one underating Pettersson.

what an astonishing thing to say. from my quick calculations, EP had 64g, 101a for 165 pts in 213 games (starting in the superelit league in 2015-16)...that doesn’t include his nhl totals this year.

hughes had 106g, 225a for 341 points in 165 games (starting in US juniors 2017-18).

what exactly are you basing your pettersson >hughes on? “lmao” indeed

i love pettersson, but i’m also realistic. see: my post above

This is our draft thread, if you want to make up proposals there's a trade board. Then you can let all the fanbases weigh in.

Bird in hand is worth two in the bush, we already know Pettersson's game translates to the NHL and his 2 seasons of exceptional performance in men's pro leagues pointed to this.

thank you for your advice, the internet is so big and scary sometimes. i’ll check out this “trade board” you referred to, maybe they won’t blindly dismiss mutually beneficial trades out of ignorance. in the meantime i’ll bookmark this post- hughes will put up a 100 point season quicker than pettersson. if anybody wants to put money on that send me a PM
