Was almost done with my impressions from today and then my F*****n computer froze on me and now all the write up is gone. *%$! Anyways to sum up what I originally was going to write just my impressions I'm only a common fan making an observation. So take if for what it's worth. Saw the black team do drills including Turcotte, Anderson-Dolan and Kaliyev to name a few. Then they had a black vs. White scrimmage which included 5 on 5 then 4 on 4 and finally 3 on 3. The White team came out afterwards and did their drills. Anyways here are my impressions for some of our top drafted players. All the kids from the past three drafts were there(minus a few players) along with traded for players like Durzi, and some young free agents.

Here are some quick impressions again just observations.

Turcotte - Kid is going to be a good player(I hope). Great skater and you can tell right off the bat he's a 200ft player during the scrimmage was really impressed with his skating and tenacity. Maybe one thing to work on is his shot but what do I know really glad he dropped to us. Hoping he becomes a Toews or smaller Kopi would be freakin awesome.

Bjornfot - Another good skater which is so important for a defenseman. Had a few rushes up the ice during the scrimmage but overall a steady player. Like some of you have said If we get another Norstrom a homerun for us. Although I think he might have more offensive upside then Norstrom.

Kaliyev - Kid already have NHL size he looked big on the ice. With all young players he just needs to add strength and conditioning he was huffing and puffing during some of the drills but that's probably because they haven't played in awhile perhaps. I'll tell you guys though he probably has the best wrister out of all the guys there. The puck just seems to rocket off his stick. No questioning his offensive upside he had a breakaway during the 3 on 3 part of the scrimmage came in and deked the goalie and I believed he scored I was at the other end of the rink and it looked like all the players acted like he scored. Also had a great tape to tape pass to a teammate(don't remember who it was) which sprung him on a breakaway for a goal. I think his passing is very underrated it was neat to see. One thing that many of us discussed about and what the scouts are concerned about is his compete level and skating. Definitely can work on his skating and leg speed. During the one on one puck control drills it just seemed like it was hard for him to keep up with some of the other agile faster players. But during the game itself it wasn't too noticeable. Hey Luc was never a good skater so who knows.

Thomas - Good skater and had a nice shot. Wasn't too noticeable but I think he'll be a good player really hoping he makes the team in the future really like the kid.

Fagemo - Kid has a lot of energy and was very quick on the puck. Tenacious and a great skater from what I saw. Really liked his quickness.

Kupari - He was the most impressive for me today. I know it's just one day but man he's fast and I just think his skill level is just above the rest of the players at development camp. Scored a beautiful deflection during the scrimmage and was on the puck every time he was on the ice. He's probably to me the most NHL ready I'm not sure what the timetable of that will be, but he's just more mature and ready I guess. Maybe because he's already playing with men and that may help a bit more.

Anyways just a few of my impressions sorry couldn't write up on everyone but only time will tell whether these kids will make it on the big club. I do have to say though that the future looks bright considering where we were the past few years. I really feel that we finally have high end talent in our system which we've lacked for a long time.

Might head back tomorrow but a good fun day.

.

Thanks for the share!

Re: the boldfaced that keeps coming up in scouting reports too. He's a prolific scorer period, which is nice. He's not just a shot, he's a playmaker.

It's sounding more and more like the 'effort, work ethic' stuff is just him flat out not being a pro athlete. Imagine this guy picking up those habits...

Some observations on today's sessions and the players that stood out to me.

JAD -- he's ready to hatch. Let's hope his upside is higher than Iafallo, Leipsic etc
Turcotte -- was not initially impressed in the drills. He was getting manhandled a bit by bigger players. You could clearly see the talent in the scrimmages. Playing the game is where it's at, right? He will need time. I can understand why Chicago went with Dach though.
Kaliyev -- raw but promising. He seemed to get lost in the d-zone and coverage drills a bit. Showed some good vision on offense. Awkward skating may be holding him back.
Fagemo -- Good skills, good speed and with grit. Potential pest?
Thomas -- flashes of talent here and there but not impressive. No intensity.
Kupari -- he's not ready yet but he should be a good one. Very talented.
Sodergran -- I think he eventually makes it into the bottom 6. Reminds me of Kyle Clifford.

Anderson -- virtually invisible. Not impressed.
Durzi -- very skilled. Looked good when not trying to do too much.
Spence -- looked fast and skilled but very small.
Phillips -- gets better and better every year. Looked smooth and solid. He has a real chance to make it.
Bjornfot -- Not real noticeable but in a good way. Solid and composed.

Parik -- Like the scouts said -- big and athletic.

Invites

Garreffa -- talented but tiny, sort of a poor man's Theo Fleury.
Yantsis -- he has size and skill.
Constantinou -- good shot, poise and he made some nice plays. I can see him getting signed.

Overall this should be a vintage Kings' crop in that no one out there could hit the net (drills or scrimmages) with anything more than random chance. Actually, not completely true. Two skaters were hitting the net. Kyle Clifford (in drills for the goalies) I shoot you not, was ripping one-timers into the net ala Ovechkin. The other skater hitting the net was one of the coaches (not Stoll).

Thank you so much @ru4reals and @HookKing !

I hope to hear more from you as well as anyone else who attends!

No problem at all don't usually go to development camp but just so happens I'm off for the whole summer so thought I'd go check it out. Not sure if my impressions count for anything but reiterating what HookKing has stated it is the first day of development camp and not to draw too much from it.

Here's a clip of Arthur Kaliyev(52) and Jordan Spence(53) vs. Mickey Anderson(44) and 4th round pick of this years draft Kim Nousiainen(70).

You're welcome. Its important not to draw too many conclusions from day one -- just a single snapshot. Apparently some players have hardly skated of late and others had exhausting travels to get here.

I can't multi-quote for some reason, but this is for both you and @ru4reals;

I don't draw conclusions, whether it's from day one of my own observations or someone else's observations.

We're about to enter a phase of there being very little news about prospects, so anything we can discuss is appreciated!

I wasn't directing it towards you just in general is all. Was my pleasure giving any type of report for whatever it's worth. Just thinking would pretty fun being a pro scout in another life traveling just watching hockey and giving reports. Not bad at all.

Was able to attend the scrimmage tonight it was pretty much the same format as yesterday and on Tuesday. Started 4 on 4 then 5 on 5 and some 3 on 3. It lasted about an hour was a full house at the Toyota Sports Center. Really was hoping the scrimmage was more of a game type situation but no complaints.

Quick impressions from some of the players that stood out.

Johan Sodergran - Had a good scrimmage, really good skater for a big kid and some really nice hands to boot. Scored a beauty of goal a quick one timer if I remember correctly. I think he'll surprise a lot of people if he continues to develop.

Mikey Anderson - Played Steady D nothing flashy. Will be a good addition to Ontario assuming he's going there.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan - Very quick had some nice rushes up ice. Started the scrimmage with Turcotte and both players played well together.

Alex Turcotte - As advertised scored a nice goal with a slick pass from Blake Lizotte. Here's the video below.

Just some thoughts it is development camp so we'll see how these kids continue to grow in the upcoming season. Not sure who's going make the opening roster from this group honestly but I think most of these kids need maybe a season or two before they can make the jump. But we'll see how they do when camp opens up in September.

Yup, at least 1 season. You may get a wild card call up like JAD or Kupari but all of the 2019 drafts are def. 1-2 seasons away minimum.
