Gorton and Clark can sleep in, have a late breakfast, go to the spa for a relaxing massage, have some cocktails, show up half-drunk at the draft right after the Devils have picked and walk straight up to the stage: "With the 2nd pick in the 2019 NHL draft, the New York Rangers select whoever the Devils didn't 2 minutes ago" and then light a cigar and walk over to the table

But would then need to recuperate and get sober before pick No. 20. Drunken Gordie would pick a goalie and it wouldn't even be Spencer Knight....

*whispers* against Italy and Norway

I once asked my Swedish friends who they hate more, Finns or Danes. Their answer "Depends on the sport. In football, we hate Denmark, in hockey we hate Finland"

When I asked "What about Norway?" the response was clear "Nobody cares about Norway"

Jeg vedder på at de finner det veldig støtende ;)

Kakko, Kakko-man! Should I dress up as the police officer, the construction worker or the indian?

"A bit", you've criticized his skating in every post I've read by you on him. If you've been watching him and think his skating's bad, there's nothing one could say to convince you otherwise. But you probably should try to look at how 18-year-olds at this size usually skate. You also said he's bad at carrying the puck in the zone, assuming you missed all the times he's carried the puck in the zone or something.

Just in case: Agility, excellent, strength and balance excellent, acceleration well above average.

You literally think he's bad at carrying the puck, I have no clue how you've managed to watch a single game and not gotten rid of that thought.

I think what Lev pointed out is more or less indisputable. Why don’t you just drop this hostile attitude?

Kakko is a big kid. Look at Eichel, someone wrote like ‘lol Eichel on big ice, what a sight’ the other day. Look at Malkin. Supposedly the term generational is thrown around too much, Malkin has been as good as anyone during his generation. Speed is becoming an issue for him really fast as he gets older.

Kakko can be a tremendously strong skater, I’ve been blown away with how he managed to extend his strides and gain the distance needed in foot races etc. But could he like match a Sebastian Aho and what he can accomplish by coming into every situation with speed and coming out of them with speed? Not even remotely. If he could do that at his size he would be Mario 2.0.

Some guys aren’t watching these games, in fact, I would be surprised if more than 1/10 of the readers in a thread like this is watching these games. I think it’s totally fair to point out that you aren’t exactly making instruction videos on how to skate by collecting footings of Kakko skating in all situations. And you yourself of course know this and point out that it should be compared to how 18 y/o’s his size usually skate. But Lev wasn’t talking about him in that context. We are discussing if this kid can become a mega star in the NHL. Kakko’s skating can be a weapon in many situations, but compared to like a McDavid he is behind in many areas too.

@ijuka If you know so much about hockey as you claim to do, you would be a lot more humble and lean back and just enjoy the ride. But you obviously don’t, even if it seems like you know a lot you lose the perspective.

I’ve seen everyone from Sundin to Koivu to Forsberg to Naslund to the Sedins to Hedman and everyone else from our league making it to the NHL. Nobody — and I mean nobody — has a straight journey without facing adversity along the way. No matter how fantastic Kakko is looking now, it’s coming for him too. And you never know when. A pain in the arse injury can slow you down a lot. Who knows. Hughes will grow and do well too, he is a talented kid.

I just don’t see the point in trying to policing every non-hyping post about Kakko. Don’t, even with someone like Kakko you must be patient and keep expectations in shack. If anywhere, in NY on top of that.

We have Kakko dominating WHCs in a way that has never - and this is literally never - been done before by someone his age. Let's keep that in the back of our mind. I hope you realize this? Perhaps not. I hope you consider this a big deal? Perhaps not. I would, though.

That adversity-thing applies for literally every player ever. He's faced plenty fo adversity, he broke his heel a year and a half ago and he has diabetes and the celiac disease. Obviously he can have a concussion or whatever, so can literally every other player in the world. That is a worthless disclaimer.

Non-hyping posts about Kakko are fine if they are logically correct and make sense. Seems like people will find any excuse to find any negatives in Kakko's game that they possibly can. "Kakko's ranked second, so here's what must be the case" being the logical chain of reasoning, rather than "Kakko is like this, this and this. Here's how good he must be as a player" which is logically correct.

Indeed, you must find this difficult to relate to if you've had Kakko at #4 until recently, which I find extremely difficult to understand if you've followed his season as I have. Well, I've had to read all this stuff all year.

I'll stand by my opinion that if Kaapo Kakko is called Mike Jones from USA he's #1 with zero discussion.

If it won't get through to you it won't.

Kakko's performance so far in the WCs is best case for Rangers fans. The Devils were always going to take Hughes first overall, and Kakko's play ensures the Rangers won't overthink the second pick.

Oh, poor you. Thanks for sharing. ;)

Seriously though, I would just lay back a little bit. Its good that expectations don't go wild and what not. I know the NYR, if a kid is a top prospects, the expectations on him will be Mario 2.0. If a kid is hyped a ton, people will expect him to score 5 a game. Kind of. If NYR starts a season winning 6 out of the first 10 games, Brooks will write an article of how anything short of a Cup is a failure.

Sad to see the Brits getting so thoroughly demolished. I was hoping they'd pull some miracle and stay up. Doesn't look like it.

They never were to begin with. Kakko has been this dominant all season and was going top 2 regardless of this tournament. Anyone afraid they were going off the board were paranoid. Bob confirmed they weren't weeks ago, and then Gorton pretty much confirmed as such in an interview with MSG around a week ago.

Bloggers write about Kakko going 1st overall because it generates views. More views = more revenue through ads.

Scouts do not let one tournament affect 3-4 years of scouting reports. Hughes goes 1, Kakko goes 2. It's not a question

This draft to me feels like: Do you want Patrick Kane as a center or Auston Matthews as a winger? And I feel like there’s a pretty clear answer there even if both players are really really really good

I want Kaapo Kakko because I am a fan of him personally. I'm more emtionally invested in him.

That said, Jack Hughes would be better for the Rangers in general so it really is a no-lose situation for us and seeing Devils fans lose their mind for weeks is fun

I think my preference edged toward Hughes, but in reality, after a full season of not expecting it, I’m just really excited to get a player of either’s caliber, so I’m trying to stay on that path until the draft before really getting too into either one

Arguing Kakko vs Hughes is much better than what we could have had at 6 or 7 where we would have a never-ending debate involving Byram, Podkolzin, Turcotte, Zegras, Caufield, Broberg, Södeström, Kaliyev, Dach, Boldy
