I think the process has changed where things have gradually but consistently moved faster and faster. I think the news came out that the Giants were going to hire Shurmur on January 22. The process is speeding up.

I was intrigued by Rhule but I can certainly not understand meeting or matching the contract the Panthers gave him.

Judge, to me, is refreshing change and out of the box pick. The most simple, predictable hire would have been Garrett.

Here's the rub, SBOB.

Why did we reach out to interview Garrett if the Judge deal was done? It's been confirmed that we reached out for a HC position and not an OC position.

It appears to me that certain people in this organization are just not on the same page as others. I find that disturbing.

I think they were doing there due diligence. Which might be where the antiquated methodology comes in. Maybe teams these days aren't about to take the time to interview 8+ candidates. There's too much competition to allow time to do that.

I would agree if this team wasn't so dysfunctional. I have to think that this is a Tisch / Mara issue.

I think the dysfunction may play a part in not adapting to the hiring processes speeding up. Teams are much quicker to fire a coach now than they were 10 years ago. More jobs, mean more competition for candidates. More competition means the teams are spending less time interviewing and pulling the trigger sooner.

I guess 10 years of ****ty football in a Jet's fan life is considered a "short spell"

You just proved his point.

2010 10-6, 2nd in NFC East

2011 9-7, 1st in the NFC east

2012 9-7, 2nd

then 7-9 and 6-10 seasons twice. Not fun but not exactly shitty football. Quite reasonable to have a few down years after a run the giants had just had.

2016 11-5, 2nd

before the current streak of 3 legitimately shitty, awful years.

In 7 seasons you only got to have one good playoff team which DOES suck. But it is vastly different from ten years of shitty football. You only experienced 3 seasons of truly shitty football in that time, the most recent ones.

The Jets just finished a 7-9 season. it was one of our best seasons since 2011 and it was absolutely miserable. They spent half of it looking worse than the giants and the other half winning meaningless games in order to push their draft spot way down the list. Through it all they continued to exemplify the dysfunction we all know and love.

Our money wasn't good enough for a top free agent who said the thought of leaving the vikings and playing here made him feel ill.

Our best player/mvp was asking to be traded a few months back bc a dallas reporter tweeted a trade rumor.
We cut our first 3rd rounder who couldn't even secure a roster spot anywhere else.
Seemingly everyone got injured. Our coach seems to get in fights with all his best players after getting in fights with every player in Miami AND getting our previous idiot GM fired.
The owner publicly laughs about how we don't show up for games.
Our beat writer is using burners to play 4D chess to make people hate our head coach

This is how one of our best seasons in 9 years played out.

Again 6 out of 7 seasons doing 7-9 or worse is definitely not fun. The giants have sucked too much for way too long but they really...unfortunately...don't compare to the jets at all.

I think it's kind of hard to hate on the process when we have absolutely no idea what actually went on during it.

For all we know Rhule went to Carolina first because he'd just finished a bowl game in Texas...

*I'm not sure interview process is necessarily scheduled in order of importance, rather convenience.

Heard rumors that some coaching candidates were concerned that many execs have been with the Giants for ages and are too comfortable and cozy to be doing the absolute best job, which sounds like an owner issue like you said.

And it was all about money pure and simple. Rhule gave the Giants the opportunity to match and they said no. Can't blame either. That contract is like what Phil jackson offered Derek Fisher. Crazy for someone whose only NFL experience is 1 season as an assistant 7 years ago.

I never compared the Giants to the Jets, I compared them to the Knicks! It was a bit tongue in cheek, but it's been way longer than just 3 years. Yes the '10s started out strong, but other than the Super Bowl season, this has been a lost decade. Since week 12 or 13 of the 2012 season when the offensive line began its collapse, the Giants have been a laughingstock.

2010 was a huge disappointment after such a promising start. Matt Dodge happened & it felt like the team went 4-12 instead of 10-6. That team should've made a very deep playoff run.

2013 they started 0-6. The fact they finished 7-9 was a miracle coaching job by Coughlin. Eli had his worst season as a pro because the line completely deteriorated. That team was seriously bad.

2014/2015 were only watchable because of OBJ. Those teams SUCKED & had high school quality defenses.

I said this earlier in the thread, but the Giants 2016 season was a total mirage. That was a terrible 11-5 team. They had a cream puff schedule & barely beat any teams with a winning record. The only impressive wins were against the Saints at home & both Dallas games. Their offense didn't put up 20 points in the last 6-7 weeks of the year.

Again, I feel for Jets fans, I really do. And I definitely understand the lack of empathy from their fans, but the Giants have been compared to the Browns for the last few years for a reason.

Judge not anything like boring uninspiring Shurmur or McAdoo who didn't communicate well.
Easy to see why the Giants were blown away. He commanded the room and has a presence.
His coaching ideas is very Belichick.

Rhule was all about money. Asking the Giants to match some ridiculous contract without a interview? Get lost!
And Judge has more NFL coaching experience than Rhule.

The Giants might have had some bad seasons recently but they had a better decade than the Yankees who didn't make a world series appearance for the first time in 100 years. How on earth can you compare them to the Knicks?

God, at a certain point maybe the Giants should just ban this guy from speaking to the media....

That looked like you were saying the giants have had 10 years of shitty football which a jets fan would be used to. That's a comparison to me.

Mostly you're reiterating what i said by going through each season. Disappointment is not the same as sitting through shitty football and while several of those seasons were disappointing they were not examples of shitty football. The Giants have been too bad for far too long and they've been absolutely awful for about 3 seasons, just saying you were exaggerating it. Plus it was fun reviewing the Jets decade because now is the time for that kind of thing

Joe Judge is the anti-Gettleman. Everything he says and how he says it is meticulously thought out. That press conference was a window in his attention to detail, preparation, IQ, and EQ. I know it was just a press conference but he has me believing again.

lol @ Tannehill's stats these last 2 weeks

They are using the Rex Ryan first year playoff formula, run it, don't let your QB make mistakes, and play defense, not sure it will work out for another two games, but it's been an impressive run so far. Interested to see what happens if they are down points in a second half, they have only trailed for a few minutes in the second quarter vs NE in two games so far.
