If the draft plays out like Mckenzie thinks, which is extremely close to what I think, Boldy is probably the safe/best pick.

Caufield obviously the most skilled but I can't blame the Oilers after how ineffective Yamamoto has been if they steer clear.

Question. Ignoring the injury. Is Krebs better than Boldy?

Podkolzin at 8 doesn't make sense to me. 2 years in Russia and then the transition to North America... KHL also atrocious on lack of playing time for rookies. Long time to wait for a prospect you are drafting at 8... I still am not sure what is so great about him either.

Ehhhh, I'm leery of Caulfield too, but he is a much better prospect than Yamamoto. That shot is something you just can't teach.

If the Oilers spring for Broberg at 8 I’ll be kinda pissed. They can certainly afford to move down if he is their guy. They better explore their options if there’s any truth to it.

Leafs have major cap trouble, trade requests, and no 1st round pick. I like the idea of drafting, it looks like a strong draft. But, I believe there is a possibility of a major blockbuster trade here.

Yeah I sure as shit hope Bob is wrong. I'm not against moving down but even if they moved down to 15 I still wouldn't be taking Broberg there.

Boldy is better than Krebs before injury. Krebs’ skating (which is good not great) is better than Boldy’s as well as his consistency from game to game are the only things that are better than Boldy’s. In regards to consistency though, Krebs gets a ton of minutes in every situation whereas Boldy had to share minutes with a lot of high end players and was often in the 3rd line.

And actually Caufield isn’t the most skilled. Boldy has better 1 on 1 puck skills but obviously doesn’t have that pure goal scoring abilities.

The only thing I can think of is this is a smokescreen cause Buffalo or Detroit wants to move down for Broberg, the Oilers don't want a team jumping them for a forward, so they're telling mouthpiece to churn out the Oilers taking Broberg propaganda to discourage the teams in front of us from trading down below us.

I'll convince myself of anything to not think about Broberg.

If we weren’t the Oilers, I’d go Podkolzin and profit when he becomes the next Tarasenko. Unfortunately we are who we are and he’d turn into the next Nichushkin. He scares the hell out of me and I hope he’s gone before we get to the podium.
He reminds me of Ty Rattie, and I'm not even afraid of the blow back from the comparison. North-south speed, not very lateral in his skating, is always on the top end of his gear and isn't necessarily looking for the next play.

There's a great video breakdown on his prospects page, and his play-style reminded me of Ty 100%.

I wouldn't doubt us taking Broberg at all...

Opens us up to package one of our D prospects to get a winger...

He definitely won't become the next Tarasenko. Completely different players. Tank is much stronger on the puck, slows the play down, has a better shot, and his passing and vision is way better.

Stauffer thinks Oilers will go Broberg at #8. I dont like that at all.

Of course he does. He's just trying to pump his tires. I highly doubt the Oilers will draft him.

He was ranked 21?

At that time only the top-20 was listed.

Or we can just draft a winger who will be better than any winger we move one of our d prospects for.

You should become a scout, batting 1.000 and all.

If only there was a Yakupov or Puljujarvi available

I mean, the value of our d prospects would get us a prospect winger. Is much rather keep our known guys and then draft a top 10 worthy player. Which is a forward. Not taking a guy who most scouts see as a mid round pick, not all even think he is the 2nd best defender with an 8oa pick.

Really hoping for Boldy assuming Turcotte, Dach, or Zegras is off the board. I get the feeling that our scouts aren't high on him since Holland keeps preaching speed.
Speed isn't just skating though. When a GM talks speed they usually mean a mix of skating speed and playing with pace. Quick thinking passing, thinking etc. Boldy is still in that mold.

Isn't Broberg the one Stauffer was trying to push on Kretzky last week?

Holland quote from his interview with The Athletic last week:

In terms of position, there’s two ways to look at it: We’ve got all these good, young defencemen and you could go the forward route. Or, if you add one more really young defenceman, you could say, “Boy, we’re in great shape now.”

We’ve got the guy at pick eight; we’ve got (Evan) Bouchard; we’ve got (Dmitri) Samorukov; we’ve got (Ethan) Bear; we’ve got Caleb Jones; we’ve got (William) Lagesson; we’ve got Darnell Nurse. We’ve got some defencemen for the here and now and we’ve got some for a couple years from now. Everybody’s always on the lookout for NHL defencemen. Or, we can say, “We’ve got lots of good defencemen. We’re gonna pick a forward.” There will be a good forward on the board.
