1.New Jersey-Jack Hughes
2.New York-Kappo Kakko
3.Chicago-Bowen Byram
4.Colorado-Kirby Dach
5.LA-Dylan Cozens
6.Detroit-Alex Turcotte
7.Buffalo-Trevor Zegras

How I see the draft playing out to this point what the Oilers would do and what would do probably differ, id take the falling Podkolzin but I see the WHL factor playing a role which means they pick Krebs.
I’d take Krebs over Podkolzin. Picking 8 is great in this draft as I feel 3-8 are all basically equal impact players. the Russian factor scares me, oilers can’t afford to have a no sign draftee

Edit: if a team needs a d maybe they draft a Soderstrom or the Finn I’ve heard of if a team drafts for position

We'd be dumb not to explore the trade market for the pick (so we probably won't lol) but I'm hard pressed to imagine a forward I'd be comfortable trading it for. I'd want to use it in a package for someone like Mark Stone (obviously off the market now).

Podkolzin is the biggest risk in the top 10 because he is signed with SKA until 20-21 season. And there are rumors that he may stay longer.

Plus his name starts with P. So, I am leery...
I haven’t seen any rumours about him staying past longer just him saying he wants to stay till he’s ready which imo will be 21/22 so the contract is no worry for me.

I’m more comfortable with Kaliyev than Podkolzin at this point.

Will definitely be watch Podkolzin closely at the U-18s, he has a dynamic skillset but I’d be so hesitant taking him.

Kaliyev intrigues me for sure.

Podkolzin will come down to the combine interviews for a team I’d imagine

The pending expansion draft.
We trade the pick for a winger we may end up having to lose the winger or giving up more to keep them. We use the pick, and then maybe sign a guy in free agency. Unless we can also move Lucics NMC, it's a dangerous idea sadly.

Oh God the expansion draft..... I forgot about that thing. You're absolutely right about that. It just makes Lucic's departure that much more important now

This is how I think the draft plays out. I don't have Podkolzin on here as I think his preference to stay in Russia scares off some teams.

1.)Devils - Hughes
2.)Rangers - Kakko
3.)Hawks - Byram (to eventually replace Keith)
4.)Avalanche - Turcotte
5.)Kings - Dach
6.)Wings - Cozens
7.)Sabres - Zegras
8.)Oilers - Krebs

Zegras is the single most exciting offensive player in the entire draft after Jack Hughes. Elite hockey sense/IQ, fantastic passer, great skater, and amazing hands, just overall a dynamic and explosive offensive player. Probably has one of the highest offensive ceilings in the entire draft, comparable to guys like Marner and Pettersson. I don't see him as a consolation prize at all, in fact, if Turcotte is gone, he would be my preference.

Now that's what I want to hear!

From what I've heard hes a playmaker and I just wasnt sure if we needed another playmaker in our top 6. I also heard his shot isnt anything special. At some point we need guys who like to shoot the puck but I'm all for taking the BPA.

Dumb question here, but you think we could move up a few spots if we offered Puljujarvi to ensure we get a player who fits our needs best?

We have not had much success with European players from the draft that don't speak English fluently for whatever reason(s). I was even weary of Kakko a little as good as he seems to be. How is Podkolzin's English?
I think he'd stay in Russia for at least 2 seasons & develop over there in any case, so I'm not too sure the language would be much of an (immediate) issue.

Drafting is cool n stuff but please turn some of the current group into nhlers

So lets not draft a free player who won't be available in the expansion draft coming? Yeah lets blow it away at another stupid trade and then have to give away a good player off our team

Fun fact. When the Devil's won the lotto in the Nuge draft, they moved up to 4th...and drafted Adam. Larsson. Taylor Hall and his life revolving around lotto winners.

Of all the teams that picked top 15 last year, which one of them are willing to give up the player they picked for our 8th? If none, then no trade. Because that group of players picked last year had one year of development after draft, there is more visibility. So basically our 8th pick is worth somewhere between the 12th-20th pick from 2018.
If we give up our 8th pick for a player one year closer to being ready, these are who we should go after:
Joel Farabee
Ty Smith
Martin Kaut
Liam Foudy

The value of the 8th pick significantly declines when you are looking for roster players. You can probably get a legit starting goalie with term, eg Canucks trading Schneider for Horvat. Or you get a borderline 2nd liner or legit third liner. Only an idiot GM would give up anything remotely close to a Trouba, Dumba, or Ellis for the 8th pick. If we are not getting one of these types of Ds back, then don't even bother unloading the pick. The 8th pick probably gets you at most a Travis Sanheim or Ivan Provorov.

No chance Kaliyev moves into the top 10 of the draft. Wasn't a fan of his game in the chances I got to see him. Great shot in junior doesn't always translate to pro. I like Tomasino's game more. But both are mid-to-late round picks IMO.

Zegras seems to be a bit of a dick too haha.

Eliteprospects' blurb about him says he gets under opponents' skin.

Didn't even realize he has 92 PIMs this year.
Was just coming to post this. Read the exact same thing.

He looks like a really smooth player, with great vision. I like him at our pick.
