Probably too rich for the 8th pick, but has anyone seen games from Lavoie? I generally check the stats to see what Safin is doing, and Lavoie seems to be tearing it up in the playoffs from a statistical point of view.

I wouldn't put too much weight into the QMJHL playoffs.

They have a weird setup where every team in the league other than two make the playoffs.

Halifax has played the 7th and 8th best teams in a 10 team conference.

Think it was Rishaug just posing the question, but if you were to trade Lucic and the 8th, how far down would you move where you'd consider it?

Living in Saskatoon, I've been lucky enough to catch the Blades/Raiders series live, and watched the two away games on Sportsnet, and Kirby Dach is absolutely playing at another level. I thought he looked bored at times in the regular season, and wanted to see more from him.

This playoff series he controls the play, and does whatever he wants out there, best player on the ice and it's not even close, he's a treat to watch. I'm scared if the Blades take this series, he moves up and out of our range.

I've been a fan of Lavoie for a while. He's right in the mix of Dach, Cozens, Krebs, Turcotte, and Zegras for me.

With him being a winger and a year older than all those guys, I think that's a stretch.

With us wanting to accelerate our "rebuild" so to speak I could see us drafting a player like Lavoie. NHL size and a year ahead in development of most of the top prospects.

If that's the case then I think the Oilers should be targetting Leason with the 2nd round pick. He seems like the most NHL ready. Could step right into the bottom 6 role

Have the Oilers ever had a legitimate #1/1b right handed center? I mean I know that isn't a huge deal but it's interesting to think about. Messier, Gretzky, McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Weight, Horcoff.. maybe Jason Arnott? Would definitely be refreshing to see a right handed center taking faceoffs on the PP. Even more reason to want Dach.

Wait, what? I just realized that this thread was created by me. I have 15 warning points though, and can't make threads for another few days.

OK then.

I started the thread and then transferred the posts from the time that we were locked into the 8th pick to the thread.

Maybe you could argue Stoll, he scored 70 one year didn’t he?

Honestly we could use any type of forward or puckmoving dman. A scoring winger would be welcome but if we draft a centre then Drai can stay on Connors wing for good.

I agree. Seems like Patty Maroon v2. Except bigger and more skilled. He'd be a hell of a winger for Mcdavid

I would consider Arthur Kaliyev. He just potted 51 goals in the ohl. He gets slept on in this thread.

Where the deal gets done. Lucic was one of my favourite players, and I was fully on board with keeping him after the first year when he was still a 20+ goal, 50+ point guy. He was still worth 6 million then. But we need to move him to compete. With our utter lack of forwards, we can’t pay him 6 million to be a 20 point bottom 6er. If that means trading the pick and getting back a 2025 7th round pick, I do it.

We should have ~8.5 million to sign 3 forwards, a dman, and a goalie. If the draft pick has to go to get us 14.5 instead, so be it. That gives you room to actually fill holes.

Odds are you're just going to spend that money on a UFA that you regret signing in 2 years, just like Lucic.

How many teams spend big on UFAs and have success from it? There's a good reason why players end up on the UFA market ... it's because they're asking for money/term that is a bad idea to give them.

This is like losing your money at a casino, desperately then trying to free up funds ... so you can go back to the casino and gamble again.

Well if we didn't have to retain that's another story. You're not giving up an 8th overall pick for a 7th rounder just to move part of Lucic's cap out.

What would we even do with the cap space from Lucic assuming we clear the 6? We don't have many assets to make a big trade and bring in cap anyways. We should stay as far away from the UFA market as possible.

We need that forward that we'd get from 8th overall more than we need to move Lucic. Now if the deal was 8th overall and Lucic for a legitimate top 6 winger that's another story.

The Hockey guy (youtube) along with the help of a pro scout did a mock draft
and they came up with Soderstrom for the Oilers. Meh ...

They let Dach slip to 11, I doubt that's happening (as he admits too)

He’s a skilled 6’4” RH shot C. He wasn’t lasting to 8th regardless.

If I was betting on it I would agree, but I would've lost a lot of money last year with Bouchard, Wahlstrom and Dobson being available.

All it takes is for someone in front of us to want a certain position. There's lots of centers this year, have to think someone drops.

Yeah...I like him usually but he is out to lunch there. Soderstrom isn't even the best D still left. That's Broberg.

And even then, he has us taking another right shot offensive D...when that's our prospect strength right now
