Just trade the pick along with Lucic and we'll be way better off, Ottawa is an option.

Yep. Lucic gone means we can bring in another legit top 6 winger. That improves our team more than a prospect who may or may not make an impact a few years from now.

Yeah we're much better off with Reinhart then Barzal + Beauvillier

That wasn’t even the trade (Isles traded up for Beauvillier), and has nothing to do with attaching the pick to Lucic

In purgatory
I really hope they can find a way to pick up someone with the knack for scoring, with a shoot first mentality. I'd be quite happy to see Caufield's name in Oilers colours, or Tomasino. However it seems it will be one of the USNTDP kids or perhaps Krebs / Dach / Cozens. I'm leery about Podkolzin, since he's apparently on record about wanting to stay in Russia even past his current contractual obligations. Sometimes you can't shake the Russian stigmatization for a reason.

sure... to Oilers at #8 then?

The guys has played very little minutes this year and is signed in KHL for next year. Who takes a chance on him with a top pick where there are so many other very good prospects available?
Why does him signed in the KHL matter? Like really? He’s going to need time to develop anyway, if he was Swedish and wanted to play in the SHL till he’s ready no one would say shit. The stigma surrounding Russian players is so outdated and stupid. If he’s the best player available then you take him end of story.

Honest question as I have seen you comment on Podkolzin defending him fairly often due to the negative nature surrounding him on this board, but where do you have him ranked?

I personally want dynamism with this pick e.i. Zegras over Krebs as I expect those are the two we get to choose from. Ideally Turcotte drops but I highly doubt we have a shot at him.

I agree but teams are going to be scared that he'll decide not to come over at all.

I have him ranked at #3 his skill and pace of play is just incredible along with good Hockey IQ. He’s also a late June birthday to boot. The complete package.

Sounds like a player we could use based on that and could hopefully mesh with Nuge in the future. I know people differ on the prospects but realistically regardless of who is still available when we pick we will get a guy with a chance at being an impact player, as in strong top 6 potential.

There are ways.......There's always a way.

Why does Ottawa want him? They'll likely have a mid 1st round pick from Columbus this year, I don't see our 8OA all that enticing.

Ottawa is rebuilding right now with tons of picks the next 3 years. Lucic brings nothing to the table that they want or need.

I'm starting to think Podkolzin would be a fit with the Blackhawks.

They're basically the only team that doesn't have a huge need at either center(Toews, Strome) or D(Boqvist, Jokiharju, Gustafsson).

He'd be the perfect Hossa replacement for them.
They have a substantial need at defense. They'll need to replace Duncan Keith in the near future and their high-end depth at D is on the right side with Jokiharju, Mitchell and Boqvist. The only two prospects of note on LD are Beaudin and Krys. None of those defensemen are at the level Byram is at. He would be an immediate blue-chip prospect for them. I can't see them passing him up.

If Podkolzin is there at 8 you take him. He is going to be soooo good. Teams will regret passing him

People play to much into the Russain factor. This guy was the best player in his age group at the Hlinka Gretzky tournament and played a ton of ice time at the WJ U20 which never happens for a Russian Team. This guy is elite. Hes North American and hes consensus top 3.

So was Dmitri Zavgorodny, another Russian player who ended up being a 7th rounder last season. The question is, why does Podkolzin dominating at Hlinka make him #3 and Zavgorodny doing the same make him #198?

I can answer this question myself. Zavgorodny played at QMJHL, and the NA-based scouts know that league's level. Podkolzin is having a similar season at MHL but scouts apparently overestimate the strength of that league or something. If Podkolzin was putting up similar numbers in CHL he'd be nowhere near the first round. I think it's safe to say CHL is tougher than MHL, also.

The way the Oilers draft...lol yes, getting rid of Lucic would be a massive improvement.
IDK we have had a ton of promising picks since Chiarelli took over pending we can all agree to not revise history and pretend that we werent all ecstatic minus a poster or two about getting Puljujarvi.

I think if he is there at 8 and the Oilers want to stay away from a Russian player who is signed in the KHL for 2 more years that pick need to be traded for a kings ransom . , Washington would pay up , Pens would and I am sure there would be others

yeah and they'll need to meet their salary cap floor, if Lucic is willing to waive then why not? He should because he should know by now that nobody wants him here. With the history of Oilers drafting and just how brutal his contract is, we could actually bring in someone that could make a difference next season, wouldn't that be nice? Let's face it, they don't have any help coming, they have no assets and he's the worst contract.
