I like our position in this draft, obviously it's always nice to be higher, but I think we are going to get a great player at #8, even before considering the fact that someone above us might go crazy and pick off the board (like Hayton last year).

To be honest, I would have been steamed if Chicago got one of the top two now that Toews and Kane are getting to the wrong side of 30 (I realize they both had great seasons).

New York has some nice players but they don’t have a lot of high end talent.
Again, it's not likely the league fixed anything, it's just all rather convenient is my point.

Zegras is basically a left handed Mitch Marner clone... Only just a bit taller and he can play all 3 forward positions. I'd love to take him 8 but I think LA could take him 5th.

Dynamic offensive threat that has incredible skating, nasty hands, crazy high IQ and truly top end vision. His shot is good although nothing special but he can use it well when he has time and space to pick a spot. Backchecks and competes hard all over the ice although he can get caught out of position defensively. All in all he's a dynamic offensive player that has a decent 2 way game and heavily tilts puck possession in his team's favour when he's on the ice.

Trade down with Jesse's rights for an NHL player and a low 1st/high 2nd.

With it seemingly impossible that any hockey ops cleanout happens before the draft, we're looking at:
  • picking a WHL/BCHL kid and rushing him to the NHL cause nobody knows WHL/BCHL better than us
  • picking a USDL kid and getting into a fight about NCAA eligibility
  • or picking the Russian or Swedish kids and messing them up cause we can't handle prospects from Europe.

I'm starting to lean towards Cole Caufield at 8 honestly. Goal per game season is absolutely ridiculous. He has the Draisaitl ability to find open areas and go unnoticed. Then he has quick hands and a quick shot to finish.

Sounds like he's more like Aho than Marner

No. Way to small to take a chance at #8.

It's going to be a fascinating draft.

To me, this looks like a draft with weaker high end talent but more really good players in the top 10. I look at this as a stress free draft for the Oilers with the worst case scenario being Podkolzin (due to the risk) and one of Zegras, Turcotte or Krebs being available with best case scenario being like last year with several reaches ahead of us and Dach somehow slipping to us. Just sit back at 8 and let the mayhem commence.

I felt more stress in last years' draft because it looked like the Oilers were just outside of the high end player consensus with a choice of Smith or Hayton being the realistic scenario.

Yep last year worked out amazing. Didn't think we would have had a shot at Bouchard.

Wouldn't mind trading down to take him.

Getting Dach at #8 is better than getting him at #3. Less pressure and it's easier to send him down to jrs. We can start fishing for the 5'8 pure goal scorers with 2nd round or later

I dont think this is an accurate scouting report on zegras. This guy is a small, perimeter, pass first player. This city would run this player out of town so so fast

1. Hughes
2. Kakko
3. Turcotte
4. Zegras
5. Byram
6. Dach
7. Krebs

Say this is how the draft board shakes out before the Oilers pick. Who do you take?

This is pretty much worst-case scenario for me with Cozens and Podkolzin still being on the board.

I think the guys I'd look at here would be York, Boldy and Heinola.

Honestly not sure who I'd take or if I'd trade down a few spots for some team desperate to get one of Cozens/Podkolzin.

Heinola though is someone that really keeps growing on me the more I watch him. So smart and so poised with the puck. His four-way mobility gives him so many options too, really deceptive player. I think he definitely has top pair upside. Most underrated prospect in this draft right now. There's a legit case to be made for him as the best D in the draft.

If thats how the draft goes and Cozens is there, YOU GRAB HIM.

I was big on him but I haven't watched any of the prospect this year at all . If this is the case we are better off picking someone with speed . I do think we will draft a C that will replace RNH in 2 years .

His speed isn't average or below average. Where is this even coming from? Honestly, watch him play before making judgement calls

The only scout ive evet me was a smug *****e who drank beer and hit on my girlfriend in front of me.

He then proceded to feign professionality/confidentiality as he bragged that he was there to watch fabbri.

Needlless to say i fed him his lunch. (I did nothing)

LOL what a loser (not you)

I feel K. Dach has J. Puljujarvi written all over him. Just a big guy with okay skating who can out muscle young teenager.

Every scouting report said Jesse was a high iq playmaker.

Watch Dach. His IQ is written all over his play. Watching Pulju in juniors, he always seemed a little out of control, and never made great plays the way Dach does. They're completely different.

I have a feeling we get one of Zegras/Krebs. Both would be sick. Marner/Couturier.
