incorrect. the average age of a D-1 college hockey player is 22 years old. That is the average age period. Average age for a freshman is 20 years old.

The average age of college hockey freshman is 20 years old. College coaches often begin scouting and recruiting players starting in high school and will follow them for their two years at the junior levels before making scholarship offers.
College Ice Hockey Scholarships. Ice Hockey Recruiting.

I know all of this as I went through it (not snobby like it sounds) but I am just arguing that I don’t think any D1 teams have an average age of 23 anymore as I believe teams are getting younger.

Fun Facts - Team Average Age

I saw the report on it, I will try and find it but at least 6 d-1 teams are 23 and older right now...never thought you were snobby, I thought the exact same as well, but every time I look over a team, less and less true freshman I am seeing than 10 years ago IMO...

I linked data from this season. 10 years ago I would agree with you.

is this to start the year? what I saw was an up to date list/real time that had a bunch at 23 years old...I will look for it..but this is great for those that don't understand NCAA hockey vs CHL and why typically freshman have tougher times producing right away...

I am gonna be the Fiddy of this draft, Kane(Hughes) vs Turris(Kakko) with me for the latter ofcourse

This kid is gonna be incredible, if we land him look out. I have watched Hughes highlights and although very impressive it just doesn’t have the same feel to it.

Don't just watch highlights when assesing prospects.

Hawks definitely have a need for a RH centermen too (although I personally like Cozens more as a prospect)
With bigger bodied players, I think that those who can still be productive while being an average to above average skater have less of a chance of falling off a cliff in their late 20s/early 30s than those who rely on their above average to elite skating.

if the Bhawks continue to play good, i hate to say this, but they will drop out of the top 10.

With the 2017 and 2018 drafts looking potentially so strong, 2019 is critical. Three big drafts in a row. Could be the modern equivalent to 2002-04 drafts, which set up the Cup depth. WJC kids showing a lot right now.

Really? 1+1 = 4.
Yeah the bottom 10 teams or so are bunched together pretty tightly in the standings. All it would take is another 3-4 game winning streak to get them out of the top 10 and close to the playoff bubble. The Kings have 33 pts and are dead last. Dallas holds the las WC spot with 41 pts.

Yeah I guess we've been a bit premature in assuming we'll be in the bottom 5 at the end of the year. Guess we'll just have to wait and see .. there's lots of hockey left to be played and I'm happy to see the team coming together under Colliton.
New hope ... boys finish just out of the PO's but win the second OA pick in the lottery.
Win win.

8 points separate dead last in the NHL from a wild card spot in the West. 10 in the east. That would mean they have to make up only 4-5 wins the rest of the season. It actually is plausible that if they go on a 7 game win streak they vault themselves into the playoffs if they continue to play well afterwards. What is in the Hawks favor though for finishing toward the bottom is they have played 3-4 more games than almost every other team.

Very plausible to make the PO's. And once in as we all know .. anything can happen.
Nice isn't it to have some mystery to the season!

If Delia is our Hamburger (remember what Andrew Hammond did in getting Ottawa to the playoffs a few seasibs back ,even though they were horrible in the possession metrics /advanced stats) then indeed we could drop out of the top ten..

So better hope Crawford returns or the Hawks management defers to Ward and does not give Delia the net except maybe every 4th game ...

We could still get lucky if we finish say 11th or 12 the and win a top 3 in the lotto draws.
But it is not likely that we duplicate the lucky move up by Carolina last draft ...you cannot expect lightning to strike the same spot twice ...

More likely is that a 6-8 spit moves up to get one of the top 3...

Delia could ruin our chances of a 6-8 or better pre-Lotto draws...

On the one hand we want our team to do well and win...on the other hand the chance to get a pick early in round one ,hopefully a top 3
Is very important to the long term success of the re-build..

Dach Kakko and Pidkolzin would be my top 3 targets...I think jack Hughes is too risky given his snuf size and the things he does not do ...

Put it his way ...if 2020 draft eligible small centre Marco Rossi were head to head with Hughes ,I would take Rossi over him ...better at face offs ...better defensively...better. in work ethic shift after shift...off the charts good ...still highly skilled but a complete hockey player (Rossi has been a sensation in the OHL till he hot injured ...either late November or early December as I recall ...but after viewing g him when he was in the lineup fircthec67s I came away so impressed. .everything g screams total hockey player in every aspect except size though he weighs mire than Hughes alreasy even though a year younger ..
