I think people will be very pleased to see how hard Hughes works on his skating during the off season...kid lives and breaths the game too...Yeah, exactly my point. He's a true hockey lifer. Lives it breathes it, thinks about it all day long.
I think its just a mentality guys are born with or just have. A lot of guys have a ton of talent but don't put in the work like he has. There becomes so many factors. You get paid, you still care but how much? Why does he have that and not others and can it be learned?
Let's be fair ... Kane wasn't always like this. He loves hockey ... but he loved to party too (including in the season minus playoffs). He really matured in the past 4-5 years which makes sense as he approached 30.Yeah, exactly my point. He's a true hockey lifer. Lives it breathes it, thinks about it all day long.

maybe this off season he can seek out developing his defensive side of the game?????? come on Kaner, we know you got more in you when it comes to defense..Ovi learned to back check at the age of 30, so it happens! In Kane's case it's not even just doing work like training and staying in shape. He actively seeks out developing his game further and continuing to try get better and learn new things.
Brayden Point does not approve of your post...But Kane does not usually play a full 60 or even 30 or some nights not even 20th. ..classic flip the switch I'be done enough in w or 3 shifts of "A" effort. .
As to all this "work"Hughes puts in..still do.not think he can help us..Too smurfy..too lacking in a complete playet. .Not sure if he is special or not on face-off. .He is not a generational guy like McDavid or even a McKinnon who is a superstar too..
Hughes has the benefit of 1.surrounding dedicated by cream of the crop American peer group at USNTDP ..helpsvhimmpilebup assists as they convert his feeds..Hawks stink at finishing g off grade A chances..so he will fail as a help to us.. 2.He is really smurfy
.3.He is OK but not special as a goal scorer. .gets padded stats via the PP which is always top notch w.it Team USA ...so gets to Hawks and stinky PP. .not going to help it at all...Not going to be good at the dirty foals from.screens and deflection cause he will get knocked down a ND not command the
Slot..Sorry but he is the
Wrong guy to help us..We have enough smurfy already with D'Cat and Kane .. 3. HE "WORK " ethic is not that good. ..I have seem him. Go MIA or get stopped from scoring for 1-2 periods in games..Not really that special in "work ethic"
..survived on talent skill. .which especially pads his stats via all those PPS the stacked Team USA and USNTDP teams generate..Not going to get those on the Hawks. ...and are you going to bench $10.5 #1 or $10.5 #2 to make a place for him.on our PP? I doubt it. .
4.The 9nly "smurf" C position guy I would want to draft Iin round one is not available in 2019 draft... I would make an exception for Marco Rossi who is only 2020 draft eligible..Because this is a smurf C who Never takes a shift off..Talented yes but more impressive is work ethic..200 ft game ...you get all 3 periods of showing up ..Makes Hughes look like a slacker ...I KNOW he is GREAT at face offs ...Led OHL at over 62% before he got hurt about 3 weeks back ..He will be a top 3 pick in 3020..For a smurf checking all the boxes ...plays way above size
.Total excellent hockey player..for that I male an exception..Even of he never got any PP time he would be a great 5x5 2C while Toes still hogs the show still for next 3-5 seasons ..
But we goitawxwaut..and no certain types we get him in 2000.
So I stead of a not checking g all the boxes Hughes smurf C..rather I want the best WI her ..Hossa-like Kako .
Or I want another Big C ....Dach Cozens or the X factor Leasing. ..Big C'she with top 5 talent do not come around often. .Grab one when you can..
Anybody but Hughes is my advice.

I'll make that trade for Vermette every day. This is only thing that matters:if anyone wants a good but sad read, take a look at this thread and why not having a 2015 1st rounder really hurt us overall and the price you pay for winning the cup... I don't know who we would have taken at 30th, or if we would have tried and move up if we had the pick...

Dylan Strome Appreciation ThreadI'm almost betting had we stayed at 30, it would've been Christian Fischer. But that's ok. We got the 3rd overall pick in that draft anyways..
not many, but definitely a few...

However, the trade for the Flyer DMen was stupid. I think everyone agreed at the time that we overpaid for a washed hockey player.
There is no way unless the team is all seniors who played two years of juniors post high school.
You can play three years of junior post-HS (which you know) and there are a lot of players who do. I’m willing to bet many middle-bottom half D1 programs have rosters with at least 1/2 - 3/4 20 and 21 year old Freshmen. Lot of D-III programs do too. Unless you’re one of the top 15 or so DI programs, you’re rarely getting 18 year old true Freshmen. And even those top dogs have a lot of 19 and 20 year old freshmen.
incorrect. the average age of a D-1 college hockey player is 22 years old. That is the average age period. Average age for a freshman is 20 years old. There is no way unless the team is all seniors who played two years of juniors post high school.
