IF LA is drafting 3rd, I'd like to see them draft Cozens, then Raphael Lavoie with TOR's 1st and then possibly Philip Tomasino with their 2nd round selection. Could be the influx of scoring needed.

I think I would rather take Podkolzin than Cozens. Cozens is a bit interesting in that I have seen him as high as #3 and as low as #8. Podkolzin looks like a nasty player who can carry a team for stretches. Cozens is really not a consolation prize though because he has top line talent and can play C or W. He seems to have a shot that could be his calling card.

I like the Top 10 this year.

Yeah, it's the Russian factor with me. At #3, you have got to be 100% sure that the kid will play in NA and with Russians it's never 100%. Only reason, right or wrong.

At 3rd-5th overall, any one of Cozens, Dach, Turcotte, or Krebs would be great.

Krebs has outscored Cozens and Dach on a much worse team. Cozens has the higher floor. Dach has a higher ceiling. Turcotte reminds me a lot of Toews/Richards in his two-way play and willingness to play above his weight class.

Pronman mentioned today he think's Zegras could get some consideration for the third overall.

I heard people are high on him. He has a lot of skill, but he has looked less committed to defense than almost any other player I've watched at a similar age group. I'm wary.

What do we think about the 2nd of the Kings 1st round picks? I’m intrigued by Centre - Connor McMichael (London-OHL).

Got to see him a fair amount last season in Hamilton before he was involved in the Robert Thomas trade.

Started off the year slow but then started to turn it on around November. Very good skater, skilled playmaker with good vision/hockey smarts.

Having a really nice season with London. Probably been one of their most consistent players.

We know London runs a good program and produces solid pros. Would not be upset if the Kings selected him.

I like McMichael, but think I'm more partial to others.

- Brett Leason in the WHL with his amazing numbers (as an overager). It would be similar to Pearson.
- Nick Robertson in the OHL is a smaller but skilled playmaker with a quick release
- Cole Caufield could fall. He's a finisher a la Cammalleri.

I wouldn't mind McMichael either. I just have other players I like more.

Yeah, Robertson is a nice little player. Good puck skills. His brother, Jason (Dallas pick) is pretty good too.

I wonder if he could be early 2nd round pick. I know some rankings, last I saw had him on the fringe of the 1st round. Comes down to teams needs.

I was gonna mention Leason as well, also have to look for that guy who inevitably falls. Joe Veleno last year.

The Kings would probably have to trade up to get Caufield since he likely won't fall to our pick we got from the Leafs, but he is exactly the type of player the Kings desperately need in the system. A realistic threat to score 35+ every year.

He is definitely a scorer but that 5'7 frame is tough to look past. I was wondering if he would drop because of that. If he were 5'11 or 6'0, I wonder how high his slot would be? The natural comp is probably going to be Debrincat.

Back to the first pick for a moment. Has anyone seen Byram play? I read somewhere a comp on him that said he reminded the writer of Chris Pronger. That got my attention although it's weird to compare a 6'1 guy with a 6'6 guy. I doubt that the King would take a Dman in the first but if they slid down in the Top 10 and he was there at 7 or 8, it could become the BPA and with this being a forward heavy draft, he may be overlooked.

It's his size which is why I think he could fall at the draft.

I’d take him if BPA.

I think he's solid, if unspectacular in both ends. He's not nearly as mean though.

I think our Toronto pick ends up somewhere between 16-20 when they play Boston and get eliminated in the 1st round. :naughty::naughty:

With that pick, or if we acquire another last 1st or even if he's available in the early 2nd, Id love to see us pick up Alex Vlasic D.... Kid is 6'6 LHD, very defesnively responsible, starting to come into his own on offence. Has an absolute cannon of a shot and more importantly skates extremely well. Cousin to Marc-Edouard doesnt hurt either. Really high on this kid

I hope Newhook falls in that range and we get him. Vlasic is a high 2nd rounder for me.

How does determining the draft order work in playoffs? Is it round-by-round (16-23, 24-27 etc.)? or does the order not change but for the teams that get to the conference finals? So 16-27 are based on points regardless of whether they lose in the 1st or 2nd round.

From Wiki:
  1. The teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1–15)
  2. The teams that made the playoffs in the previous season but did not win either their division in the regular season or play in the Conference Finals (picks 16–23 up to 27)
  3. The teams that won their divisions in the previous season but did not play in the Conference Finals (potentially picks 24–27)
  4. The teams that lose in Conference Finals (picks 28 and 29)
  5. The team that was the runner-up in the Stanley Cup Finals (pick 30)
  6. The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 31)

If I understand it correctly, along with Leafs losing in the 1st round, the best thing to hope for is that division winners lose in the first 2 rounds because they are locked into 24-27 unless they make the conference finals.
