Who gets the next statue? Binnington? Probably Pietro. Does Tarasenko rate one?

I like the idea of Binnington because what he did was both historic (first rookie to win 16 games) and full of machismo. It resonates. But none of those guys would get a statue while they’re still playing.

Realistically, Binnington probably would need to play a long time with the Blues and win more stuff to be a possibility. But Pietro is a likely candidate.
Petro is the only one that has it locked up. Tarasenko is probably darn close. Some others have a shot, but it really depends on how their careers here play out.

If Binnington wins a Smythe as a part of a repeat performance, he'd definitely become a lock for a statue this summer IMO, simply because of how much our fortunes changed with his arrival.

Petro I have as a for sure lock because of his tenure and being the first person in a Blues sweater to lift the Cup.

I want a TV outside the stadium that has Berube's game 7 speech on repeat until the end of time.

Not sure if its a prerequisite or not but the other 3 statues outside are all hall of famers.

I’d like something to compliment the banner, like a multimedia display case that includes things like “Do I look nervous?” And Berube’s speech. Photos of each player with the Cup. Gloria. Laila. Something around the arena to capture this time.

As the years go by, this group will quickly disappear to other teams or retirement. Maybe a statue can’t really convey the memory the same way. But I hope they can save the memory for the fans.

It would be rare (if not unprecedented) two have two people share a statue, but I could see a statue commemorating the Cup win with Petro in the back lifting the Cup and Binnington in front of him making "the save".

I think Petro is a near-lock for a statue. An extension would make him a lock, but I think he will get one even without an extension. That photo of him raising the Cup with the crappy pyrotechnics in the background became the image of the Blues Cup win, so a statue of that would be simultaneously memorializing the player and the franchise's first Cup.

I would be very surprised to see Binner get a statue unless there is some serious resume padding over the next several years. I think he has a very good chance of walking as a UFA next summer, so we very well may be talking about a 3 year contribution with the team that ends 5+ years before he retires. It has been a hell of a contribution, but if the team wants to honor it down the line I'd expect a jersey retirement to be considered sufficient.

If Petro ever wins a Norris, gets into the HOF, /and/ he finishes his career here, I’m down for giving him a statue, hopefully of him lifting the cup. If he doesn’t do those three things, I’d be prepared to go as far as retiring his number, but a statue is only for the absolute legends. Otherwise I think we can appreciate his contributions here in a lot of other ways than building a statue of him. He was the Captain of the first Cup-Winning team, and that means a lot, but I’m not sold that it means a statue.

Petro gets one if he resigns. Not sure if he walks (not just to be punitive, looking at duration of excellence too).

My guess is that he doesn’t start in the lineup for the playoffs, but that he gets opportunities. Like Fabbri last year. He could be a real shot of energy, and might become a fixture if he really steps up. It depends on how long the playoff run is and the details of inevitable injuries.

And inevitable suspensions during the playoffs...

Petro - fa
Scandella - fa
Schwartz - 1 yr left
Parayko - 2 yrs left

I’d like to lock these guys and keep this band together as long as possible. Bozak and Steen are off the books after next year. Thats 11 million coming off. That will help. Allen will probably be moved. That’s another 4. JBo retiring. Seems like we can keep this together.

This next off season, we gotta move Allen. The difference between his salary and Husso's (3.65M) will be more than adequate for covering Petro's raise from 6.5M (6.5M+3.65M=10.15M). The following off season, we can let Steen and Bozak go, which would free up 10.7M in cap space. Barbashev at that point should be ready to take over Bozak's role as 3C on the team.

I really hate thinking about keeping Scandella to replace Jbo but here we are. I hope we resign him because he fits so well with not only Parayko but the team. ( so far )

How about Berube and Gunnarsson standing next to each other at the urinal? That would be 'colorful'

I think they should just make a massive bronze bust of the whole team and stick it on a wall near the other statues. Hopefully there is a photo of the whole team on the ice in Boston with the cup that the bust could be modeled on. The cup win was the biggest moment in franchise history and it was an absolute team effort.

I think we should move Allen this summer, but the odds of Husso being a lock for the backup job in camp next year are looking slimmer and slimmer. He's got a .908 in the AHL as a 25* year old and last year he had a disasterous .871 through an injury riddled season. I think it is highly unlikely that Army would put 20+ starts into the hands of a goalie who hasn't excelled at the AHL level in 2 years. Husso can still go on a hot streak and show the organization he is ready, but as of now I find it very, very unlikely that Army doesn't bring a UFA goalie into camp to battle for that spot.

Again, I think we should move Allen, but we are likely talking about a cap savings less than the difference between his salary and Husso's. Bringing in a good veteran backup at $2.5M AAV is still almost $2M in savings, which is not at all insignificant.

We need to remember that Petro's raise isn't the only cap increase for next year. Faulk's cap hit jumps from $4.15M to $6.5M and Schenn's jumps from $5.125M to $6.5M. That is $3.725 added to this year's budget and Dunn will be due a raise as well (although not as big of a raise as we were all expecting 18 months ago). We can make the cap work next year without a ton of pain and then Allen/Bozak/Steen contracts all coming off the books naturally in 2021 will help moving forward.

*Edit: changed his age, which I accidentally typed as 28 instead of 25. Thanks for pointing it out @Stealth JD

I like this idea. The banner is great, but I want something with the players on it. In 5 years, lots of these guys will have moved on. I want something that memorializes Big Rig, Binnington, Gloria etc, everyone. Maybe it doesn’t match the model for the individual statues outside, but on the concourse there should be some kind of permanent display.

I don’t think it belongs there currently, but maybe after this postseason they will be able to look back better and do so.

we’ll lose more players from that original group this off-season. They’ve lost 3 already (not counting Del Zotto) with Bouwmeester, Edmundson and Maroon. This off-season we’ll possibly lose Allen, Bozak, Gunnarsson, maybe Steen. I hope the front office makes a way to hold the memory of that magical season in remembrance. A shrine. Many of us have our individual shrines at home. I have mine.

How about a statue of Petro scoring the goal in the last minute of the first period in Game Seven?

Pretty sure the fanbase won’t need help from management to recall the first ever Stanley Cup victory.
