I think I remember Kane say that him and DW went golfing and he flat out asked him if he wanted to be a shark and then they got the extension done. All these public appearances with sharks players and now DW is probably a very good sign.....however we’re the sharks and the hockey Gods hate us. Lol

Till EK65 puts pen on paper AND we are told about it, I am just going to be cautiously optimistic.

Same and I can’t tell how old this is. Isn’t he still on crutches as well? Could be an older picture

It's been a couple weeks since surgery so it's plausible to not be on crutches for a time and also possible to still be on crutches yet get rid of them for a picture. So I don't know either. lol I want to believe but my head says don't be an idiot.

Haha same here. He got a hair cut going off of the picture with Logan. It’s hard to tell how long his hair is in this picture as well. It’s going to be an interesting two weeks for sure

The life of an NHL fan...analyzing the length of a players hair to determine the age of a picture to help determine if we should be encouraged or dismissive of said picture as it relates to the possibility that player signs with us.

We are like drug addicts

f*** it. If EK65 re-signs I want to also sign Nyquist and totally re-do the bottom-6. Skip re-signing both Pavs and Jumbo. Hopefully get Donskoi back for cheap. Potentially Heed.

Meier-Hertl-Nyquist
Kane-Couture-Labanc
Chekhovich-Suomela-Donskoi
Chmelevski-True-Gambrell

Simek-Burns
Vlasic-EK65
Ryan-Heed

Wishful thinking here ofcourse because these guys are largely unknowns but the known quantities didn't really do shit.

Honestly, even if we could squeeze both of them under the cap, I am not sure if I want Pavs back.

5.5 million or under (which I seriously doubt) he'd be ok to bring back, but I share your concerns, when he's not tipping pucks he really doesn't have much else going for him, but he also almost put up 40 goals this season, it's a weird spot to be in.
I'm praying one of our rookies comes up huge for us next season, we're still lacking in high end forward scoring

Yep. I think the team needs more players who have speed and bring physicality. Or atleast one of the two. Our overall team speed is average and we need to get faster. Thornton is my favorite Shark and I am not 100% sold on getting him back either.

His underlying numbers are good too but he never seems to really fit into the line up going by the eye test.

Agreed. His body went through the ringer this past season. He’s a great leader and valuable on the PP but he’s about to turn 35, slow, weak on the puck, and will want either a high AAV in exchange for a short term contract or more years at a discounted AAV. Sharks should avoid both. Bring back EK65, Nyquist, Thornton and Donskoi. Trade Braun, Melker, Dell and let Pavs walk.

Him tipping pucks is the only reason i want him back. He is the only player on tye entire roster that actually goes to the front of the net for tips.

I am torn on Thornton. But if he is ok taking 2M or less, and we manage his minutes well, he could be a very effective bottom-6 forward in the playoffs.

I am not even sure if Dell has any kind of value anymore. Plus buying him out does not save any cap space for us.

Which leads me to the next major gripe I have, that our system is terrible boring, predictable and uncreative. Get pucks deep, pass back to the point, hope for a tip. Yeah pavelski put up alot of points doing it, but when everyone knows your playbook it gets easy to counter.

While letting Pavs go may be the right “hockey move” it may do some serious damage in the dressing room

Can you give me some examples of what type of damage? It is not that our team is an over-achieving team because of leadership.

The organization needs to do what is right for the team. These guys are pros and I don't expect them to pout or demand trades because we refused to re-sign Pavs. The only player I could see a dip in performance from would be Burns if they let Thornton walk as well. Those two appear to be really close.

Yeah. It's interesting that we play a similar system to what we did 3-4 years back. We have faster, younger and skilled players now in Meier, Kane, Hertl. Even had Nyquist this year. The system does not appear that it is trying to make use of those skillsets.

Like you said, its too predictable and easy to counter.
