Imagine being so wrapped up in certain players that you say their situation is affected by luck to protect them but you don't realize them being unlucky and the injuries to Patrick and Lindblom have also cost this team wins. Probably as many as the coaches can be blamed for.

Not everything in life goes perfectly pick and choose your battles. This place will be lot quieter for me when I visit.

The Flyers at 17-4-4 at home. It seems to me that if you go to the arena these days you have a good chance of seeing a good game and a good outcome.

Yes the road record right now isn't as good but they are within 2-4 wins of the majority of teams on the road. So I guess every coach in the league is dumb.

Only game I have gone to this year was the 0-1 loss to TB earlier this season....

What a horrible article. Carchidi is just awful... does he think he's writing some kind of fan-fiction?

The sky was gray and somber, but the Wells Fargo Center conference room, high above ice level, became sunlit when a tall man wearing black slacks and a matching, outdoor Flyers vest strode into the room.

...

In Scott’s mind, the clouds are lifting. The gray sky is turning blue.

Dave Scott is an idiot too. This franchise is in real danger with this coaching staff, GM, and Scott.

Playing rookies who project as a better player isn't a given to win games... but whatever...Tomato tomato I got slapped I'm gone
The Edmonton Oilers, from 2010/11 through 2018/19, went under .500 & missed the playoffs in 8/9 seasons.

That’s despite fast-tracking tons of extremely young, highly touted prospects. Not sure what happened, since this board tends to assert that more innate skill & talent always = the “better” player; always = a “better” team; & always equals an increased chance to win.

We’ll just pretend the Oilers didn’t happen over a huge sample size & learn nothing from it. Or, most likely, deflect the blame onto the multiple different coaches, because that’s what fans do.

BTW, is Zherdev still around? Now that guy was incredibly skilled & talented, & a high pick. Surely he could increase the Flyers chances to win by slotting ahead of the less-talented Pitlick.

I don't agree with everything AV has done, but he's definitely not dumb. If they stopped dicking around with the PP, I'd give him an A- probably. He gets a B based on the PP though.

He's certainly be a positive higher, considering who he was replacing that wasn't that difficult to achieve.

I do like AV, seems like a down to earth guy who rewards the guys who are most of the time worthy of it. He's given younger players multiple chances to grab bottom 6 spots, so that's been good.

Some of his player deployments have been questionable to downright bad, but I can at least understand most his motives, even if I don't agree with them. I wish he (and the Flyers staff in general) would try to extract a bit more value with what they already have than what they currently are. Specifically, I would like to see Couts out at ES a bit more, I would like to see Ghost with top line players as well.

#great post

Dave Scott getting involved. Yeah, this is gonna end well. Can’t wait to see them trade a 1st for a rental 3/4 C.
If AV is to be believed it will be a 4C since G isn't moving back to wing for the foreseeable future.

Wow..shocker. Dave Scott just said exactly what I did all along. Playoffs or bust. The playoffs are a different season. They need to add a center

Team is the perfect storm of young and old. They committed this summer bigtime

Bailing on that now and just throwing more rookies at the team would be as stupid as it gets

Carchidi mentions Eriksson-Ek as a name. I didn’t realize it, but did a little research & apparently there has been some smoke this season about his being available.

He’d be a crafty acquisition, as he’s still young, has room to improve, & is expansion eligible.

OK so AV said yesterday he like G at center. Frost has no open spot where he isn't limited to 8-10 minutes with crappy linemates.

Can we all just let it go?

Makes sense it would be impossible to start him at wing. When was the last time the Flyers have started somebody at wing and had him develop into a dynamic and impact center?

Wait, which player are we talking about?

Frost
Laughton

Is probably realistically a better bottom 6 C combo than most options out there... and costs nothing.

Unless going after say:

3C:

Carter
Thornton (NMC)
Koivu (NMC)
Spezza (who might not be available)

4C:

J. Larsson (and might not be better with Laughton+Larsson than Frost+Laughton!)

Pageau & Granlund *might* be options... but would cost an arm and a leg as rentals.

All the other good/decent options (Brassard, Haula, Eakin, Boyle etc) wont be traded as on play-off teams/in races.

Basically in my eyes:

Carter (who has a hit that will make it very hard)
Larsson

are only good/decent options that could make some sense right now and they for sure "could" get if actually bid. As Thornton and Koivu will have other suitors and have NMCs...

Yeah, why let a rookie who has played at a perfectly acceptable level get ice time, when you can spend assets on a player who likely isnt as good, all the while, making a token "we tried" type trade to appease the masses?

When's the last time anyone took a Intro to Marketing class around here?

There's no need to default to such broad strokes in positive or negative directions. As always, show me the ask and the player involved if you want me to comment on a trade at all. They don't have to make a move, but I could see a situation that makes sense. The approach should always be one of receptiveness to listening. You never know what will shake out. Someone might even hand you a Boston Seguin for pennies on the dollar.

Until there are specificities, we're arguing just to argue. I would not pay anywhere near the rumored ask for Pageau. Neither the player nor the situation is a fit for such a deal.

I agree mostly, and the bolded is what sticks out the most. We could improve this team without making trades. Could we improve it further by making some? Absolutely, but to your point, the issue becomes cost. I'm hesitant to believe we'll find a trade out there where the cost to acquire to impactfulness of upgrade (over what we could have had for free), is positive. Generally speaking, deadline prices are almost always overpays by nature due to basic economics. To paint a more specific picture - whats the perceived benefit of Pageau over Frost in that role, and what is that benefit worth in terms of the picks and prospects required to attain him. I see very few instances (and admittedly, im just talking one player here), where that nets out as a positive. I am, however, open to the scenario, at least. I am, however, wholeheartedly against a trade just to 'make a trade' and appease the restless masses because we havent won a playoff round in years. Especially if it costs us higher end draft capital, which we've already squandered.

Trading asset (or assets?) for a 4C eh? Kill me now

Have to hope Frost comes up and sticks and Patrick comes back. I can see Fletcher jumping the gun and trading for a player when the market will later be a lot more favorable.

Carchidi mentioning a trade target that isn’t hot garbage (Eriksson EK)? What a time to be alive
