I don't think Herby wants to be known as the sausage king of Chicago...You should have told them that you are Abe Froman

LeverageMust have changed his mind over the last little while.
Nikita Nesterov expected to re-sign in KHL despite Kings' two-year, $6M offer

The rebuilding Kings have spoken about trying to “stick to the plan,” even though they might be well-positioned, in terms of salary cap space, to take on a free-agent bargain or two. Blake did say last month the Kings might look outside to shore up the blue line on the left side.
“If there’s somebody out there that fits our needs and can help us and it works for both parties, we’d definitely look at it,” McLellan said, speaking generally.
“We’ve got a lot of good prospects coming. Are they all ready? No, they’re not. Will we make a mistake or two that they are? Maybe that could happen.
“But we don’t want to block anyone else from developing either. There’s that fine line between going outside and staying inside.”
Hopefully they can do some sort of two week prospect skate, or something along those lines. Maybe a series of mini skates for a week or two to get a better read on some of the kids, tell them what they would need to improve on in the couple months before a real camp.
Usually they have the development camp right after the draft, but with the draft likely being during the CHL season and during the college semester that's probably not an option.
Some interesting tidbits and quotes in the most recent Athletic article.
Imagine if you will, a virus so intelligent, it knows the difference between players practicing and those playing in the playoffs.I would assume a good portion of the kids who have contracts will be working out at TSC through the summer. The league can't really justify allowing playoff teams to have 30+ player practices, but say to the non-playoff teams, you can't have 10-15 guys in relatively small group workouts.
This is why it the next couple of seasons it is okay to bring in some NHL waiver fodder to ensure the kids don't have to be rushed. If as the Kings did in 2012 with Nolan and King, they find a player or two is ready to be in the NHL mid-season, the Kings can cut some vets loose.
Trent Hunter and Ethan Moreau were that close to Stanley Cup Champs!
I actually think LA has so many prospects that guys like Carter are taking up space at this point. I don’t want to throw guys in unnecessarily but these top end guys don’t need to toil to long in the minors. This is why it the next couple of seasons it is okay to bring in some NHL waiver fodder to ensure the kids don't have to be rushed. Let the prospect win the spot before turfing what vets are left, imo. Even 4 rookies is a lot.
Plus--imagine what the extra layoff COULD do for guys like Carter recovering from injury, or guys like Anze and Drew who have had massive mileage. It might work like Selanne for them. On the other hand, maybe Drew turns into the stay-puft Marshmallow Man. I think we see a pretty significant makeover of everything but I don't want to cast guys that aren't ready into the fire just because a spot exists.
