Peeks around the corner. See's Ron Hextall standing in the hallway. Hard to say if it was Futa wanting to move on for other opportunities, Blake aligning more philosophically with Hextall (if he wants the job), or other factors (couldn't agree on another contract). One thing is for sure. AEG has to be seriously bleeding cash. They run over 100 arenas and venues worldwide. Every concert, sporting event, motocross or truck rally, graduation and rodeo cancelled.

That's another possible scenario. I thought Hextall was brought on to assume a similar role as the one previously held by Jack Ferreira, like a senior advisor with some GM experience.

The Kings were probably prepared and planned for Futa's eventual move away from the franchise. It wasn't long ago he interviewed for the Buffalo GM job.

I would only be happy with this move if Hextall is promoted AGM, but since he wants to stay close to the East, not sure if he wants to work those hours in Cali again.

I mean, this doesn't make me feel better

They go on to give plenty of props to Yanetti, which is fair and probably overdue--kind of an unsung hero over the last few years. But can't find a spot in the new mgmt for Futa, your AGM? That seems concerning unless it's just worded flippantly since he doesn't seem to think it's a big deal.

Maybe they are giving him the release he needs to find greener pastures. I believe it was last year or the year before his name was brought up for some possible GM rules in the NHL. I believe the industry looked at him positively and this may be Blake doing him a solid just like he did with Kuemper when he traded him to Phoenix to get a more playing time.

All we can do is thank him for everything he has brought in us over the years and the work he’s put in and wish him nothing but the best in the future. It is a little different because he’s not a player and we cannot easily measure his value statistically or by the eye test but during his time we have had many very successful drafts and we know he did contribute to that.

Teams in many sports are going to learn that they may be too management heavy.

You will see leaner operational/scouting staffs. Especially as teams focus more on analytics.

How does the assistant GM not have a “solid spot”? That’s like saying the Vice President of the United States doesn’t have a “solid spot”.
Not to unload my inner historian too much, but the VP of the US used to be the spot they stuck uppity members of the party so their political careers would die since the VP used to do absolutely nothing aside from cast the tiebreaker vote. They did that to Teddy Roosevelt, but then McKinley got assassinated a few months into his term and well.. Teddy made a lot establishment Republicans very unhappy for the next 7 years.

Honestly, Futa deserves a no strings attached shot at a GM role. I could see Bowman getting promoted in Chicago and Futa being snatched up by them.

Yanetti seems to be doing great, and given what the Flyers young guns look like now, it's great to know Hextall is there too.
