NHL Playoffs Archive

every full playoff game of the 2012 kings and the 2014 final. Some other series too.
I encourage everyone, especially those who think the Kings were a boring hockey team, to watch the last four or five minutes of Game 3 of the WCF against Phoenix. The Kings were leading 2-1, and playing Sutter's system to near perfection as Phoenix barely crossed the red line during the last five minutes of the game. With approximately two minutes left in the game Voynov intercepts a pass in the neutral zone and carries it into the Phoenix zone and maintains possession for 20 seconds while the Kings execute a line change. Voynov finally relinquishes the puck, but not to Phoenix to a teammate and the play continues in the Phoenix zone.

And who says LA hockey fans don't know the game? They are on their feet for almost the entire five minutes and know exactly what the Kings are doing, as there are no great scoring chances for the Kings, just total territorial domination.

The Kings were a forechecking and cycling machine in the 2012 playoffs. You can see the soul being sucked out of teams as they are not allowed to make even the simplest breakout to leave their own zone.

That's my favorite Voynov memory ever.

Signing 15 out of 18 draft selections is a good way to restock the pipeline. Then you add the plethora of upcoming selections, and this team suddenly has an arsenal of options, whether they become NHLers or flipped in a trade to bring in some talent.

The Kings are getting into a position where they can be contending for a playoff spot in the near future. I guess those who questioned exactly what “the plan” is may start to see it come to fruition in the upcoming years.

15 of 18 draft picks signed with soon to be 16 is ridiculous. And I have no doubt that Parik, Spence and Nousianen will get signed eventually.

Why is Rosen going with the first 18 picks? If later rounds picks that will likely never do anything in the NHL are included from 2017 ans 2018, why not go with the full 23 picks? Because 15 out of 23 doesn't sound as impressive? Because Fagemo is the most recent of all the picks to sign so far? If Parik had already signed, the cutoff would be 19 instead of 18? Maybe it's just the virus, but that seems like an odd way to do it.

I’m guessing his focus was on the first two drafts under Rob Blake (14 selections), and in addition to them, the 2019 selections who have signed were also included.

Signing Edmundson would be similar to when they signed Mitchell or Scuderi. Would look great paired with Doughty or any of the younger dmen. And as we all know, cap space isn’t a concern with the Kings.

Edmundson-Walker/Roy is one hell of a pairing imo. Whether its 2nd or 3rd or interchangable. And it would literally fill the only REAL gap we have at this point assuming Bjornfot/Anderson/Clague/Macdermid are rotating around and spending some time with Doughty too.

Seems to me like someone like a Walker or Clague may wind up being an asset to trade for a goal scorer, similar to Kyle Quincey or Jack Johnson. Especially if the Kings wind up drafting Drysdale.

That's the series I've just went back to watch...I'm only on game 1 right now, Doan and Smith are such pricks.

Agreed. I scoured the list of UFA/RFA LD a few weeks ago before making a thread about Edmundson on the main boards, and he seems like the perfect fit for this team. Blues and Canes fans loved his compete, and I'd guess he'd relish an opportunity to get to help lead a D core rather than being an accessory to the stacked lineups in St. Louis and Carolina.

Edmundson - Doughty
Anderson/Bjornfot - Walker/Roy
Bjornfot/Anderson - Roy/Walker
MacDermid

Numerous possibilities because of the balance. In theory, that would be a very interesting group.

I am all for a free asset like Edmundson , Especially one feels the need by bringing size, the ability to eat minutes, and the ability to provide toughness on a nightly basis for 20 minutes a game is an awesome next step for this team.

In theory we are lining up three rookies on the left side if we use MacDermid as the seventh the man.
if everyone is ready to make the team in the next few years then we can use one as an extra asset to acquire another need.

This is not like Kovalchuk who was 35 years old and a one trick pony. This is a defenseman that is still a couple of years away from 30, has great mobility, and may just be the partner doubt he has been waiting for for the last half dozen years. if not he can be a placeholder until we acquire one or have one of our rookies fill that bill.

Other than Drew we have no veterans on the defensive end. This guy has won a cup and knows what it takes.

I think it would be a major coup if we were able to sign him in the off-season

Same thing as the end of the Blues series, the loudest I've ever heard Staples center. With a chance to close out a sweep, you think it would be butthole pucker time, but we controlled the entire last 5 minutes

Man relatedly Dustin Brown 2012 is just one of the gutsiest performances I've seen, from the trade rumors through the Cup lift, even with Mike Smith performing knee surgery.

Imagine being Martin Hanzal and thinking you're entitled to any sort of conversation after you boarded Brown from the faceoff dot on essentially an icing play and tried to take off Richards head on the faceoff preceding the win
