GDT: 2019-20 LA Kings vs whoever at some time.

Current management is doing even worse filling the void with AHL caliber bums. The core was supposed to take over the leadership void. That was the plan under DL, that’s why they got the long term contracts.

Ultimately it wasn't the players that are held accountable for missing the playoffs, they still aren’t accountable. We’re still hanging onto and promoting guys from the last cup run.

Malaise has set in for this franchise.

Were you expecting a cupboard full of prospects at the snap of a finger? Look at the prospect pool in 2017 and explain to me how it’s Blake’s fault this team barely had any semblance of NHL talent in the pipeline to promote when he took over.

The Reign and Kings have gotten younger. It’s been gradual, but that’s expected when you’re starting off with nothing.

Well that’s not true, Bluc as you recall were promoting that the team were contenders when they took over. They were willing to trade picks and prospects for Pacioretti and those talks raised ethical questions of Bluc and the agent.

This notion that they started with nothing and had to rebuild the pipeline from the start is BS. They had to rebuild it because their other options weren’t panning out.

Ah yes, facts flying over your head yet again. Go ahead and name the plethora and dearth of prospects the team had in 2017 when Blake stepped in. I can’t wait to see you dance around this one.

I already answered this. Management pivoted to stocking the pipeline when Muzzin was traded. Up until then, they were running around saying they were cup contenders, trying to trade assets for players and signing old players. None of that worked out.

The notion that they’ve been working towards a top farm system since they took over is laughable. Go watch their introduction presser, they weren’t singing the tune your singing now.

So then why didn’t they trade any prospects or draft picks?

Why negotiate a trade of picks and long term extension with Pacioretti if the goal then is to rebuild the pipeline?

Can’t you say the same thing about the man who unsuccessfully tried to trade for Roberto Luongo as his first move as GM in 2006, and then diverted his attention to Dan Cloutier?

Also, the rumored trade Pacioretty contained salary going back to Montreal in the form of Muzzin and who knows what else.

The what else was a first round pick according to the Montreal Gazette.

As for the Luongo and Cloutier, DL stated he was building from the net out numerous times. Cloutier and Luongo won a lot of games at that point and they made a lot of sense to go get.

DL was also trying to change the culture, bringing in guys that were hard workers and compete at a certain level. That’s why DL was enamored with Cloutier, just like he was with Williams, Mitchell, Greene, Stoll etc.

Unfortunately Cloutier never took care of his hip and that ended his career. It was a mistake to extend him so quickly but I think it only reinforced the need to be deep at that position. Again, Kings had a lot of nhl quality goaltending under DL come through the ranks after they were drafted. So it’s odd to me some are still hand wringing over the Cloutier deal.

It was Muzzin, Anderson-Dolan and the Akil Thomas pick, Blake wanted to keep his first first round pick.

Funny thing is, I am certain that Akil Thomas is going to be a much better pro than Kupari. Felt that way after the draft, long before the WJCs or injury. Kupari is going to have a very difficult time adjusting to a team concept, though his injury might actually be a blessing in disguise if he loses a step next year and has to concentrate on team play and not relying on his wheels.

Any way, yeah, we have seen two half measures from this management group. Their attempt to re-contend was a misguided failure, costing Anschutz millions. The attempt to rebuild has only seen them collect picks, witha shrewd trade of Muzzin. Can't give high marks until they get around to clearing out a stale room in earnest. Anybody can buy out mistakes or sit and wait for contracts to expire. Its going to take skill to move the players who can't just leave on their own, and absolutely none of that has been displayed yet.

It can't happen yet. The Kings have $11,000,000 in dead cap space next season as a result of Kovalchuk, Phaneuf, and Richards. Next season will be another "lost" season, but it's time to start seeing some of the young guys make the team. Clague has to stick with the team next season. It'll be five years since he was drafted. It's go time. I'd love to see Anderson-Dolan and Mikey Anderson make the team as well. Vilardi, we'll see. His setbacks are excusable at least. Wouldn't hate it if someone unexpected - Kaliyev or Lafreniere - forces the issue as well.

Bottom line is we need to start developing our players. They have to perform. It's not enough to have high draft picks. We need our high draft picks to become really good players.
