Hey Sir,
1) great username.
2) No one does really knows if the following is the truth, but rumor is that Carter did threaten to retire if traded. If this is untrue, the Kings would be foolish to not retain salary and listen to any reasonable offer. It's not like we don't the cap space

1) Thanks
2) I forgot about that, but do recall it. So, maybe make the trade but have it based on conditional pick(s) and prospect(s). If he does retire, then doesn't that recapture penalty go to the Flyers? Which would still be a win in the Penguins case.

I think if he wouldn’t retire they’d seriously consider a meaningful offer. Considering his form flanked by Lewis and Clifford he’s got to be worth a 1st +. I’d retain 50% too.

BTW, I love Carter and don’t want to trade him, but I’m thinking big picture.

Kings benefited from the time when his Cap hit was below his actual salary so no matter what LA is on the hook for any sort of recapture. Regardless if he retires a king or as a part of another team.
not sure if I would be on board moving him out however if the right deal came along hard to say no.

Hello yet again. Pens fan here.

Would Jeff Carter be available? And if so, would LA retain 1/6 to 1/3 of his salary ($878,787.83 to $1,757,575.66)? Someone suggested this on the Pens board but I've got no clue if Carter is available.

The Kings goal is to get younger and better. I'm pretty sure Carter is available, and his recent play has upped his value.

I would say the Kings would be able to retain a chunk of the salary if they choose to trade him.

Edit: Even though the Flyers signed him to that contract, the Kings would be the one hit with the recapture if Carter retires, since they were the team that benefited from his contract.

Feedback appreciated:

Jeff Carter w/ 25% retained (about $1.32M) and LA's 2020 2nd Round Pick (LA gains $1.7M in cap)

for

Alex Galchenyuk, Dominik Simon, and Pittsburgh's 2020 1st Round Pick (Pens save $1.7M in cap)

Galchenyuk and Simon are both play making wingers. Galchenyuk is certainly better than Simon on the offensive side of things (goal scoring and play making). However, Simon is a pretty decent 2-way player while Chucky... well, he's just okay. But dear lord... Simon seems to have forgotten how to put the puck in the net. Galchenyuk is probably a top 6 winger (line 1 or 2), while Simon is a middle 6 (line 2 or 3).

Galchenyuk is mostly a LW, but has played the other forward positions. Simon is mainly a winger, but has played center. They're both 25 years old. Simon will be RFA and Galchenyuk will be UFA.

Nope... He's likely staying because his production is starting to be a positive again, he could be a valuable mentor and safety blanket for the kids that come up and we need some salary to stay above the cap floor.. Besides, Carter is worth more than Galchenyuk without retention.. Best bet for us is to keep Carter and hope he continues his production then try and ship him to a team on the west coast that's contending..

97) Williams

I like the list for the most part, 1-6 is cool for me, you have the clear cut top three centers, best winger, best d-man and best goalie. As far as Kings players go, I think maybe Kopi deserves to be above Bergeron. I think it's obvious Bergeron is one of the greatest defensive forwards of all-time (maybe the best) but Kopitar wasn't far behind as a defensive player and had more dominant offensive seasons despite having less than impressive talent on his wing alot of those years. I would personally take Kopitar and Kane over Stamkos and would also take Kopi over Datsyuk because Datsyuk didn't even play the final four years.

Giordano over Doughty is just laughable and embarrassing , Doughty also has a really strong case to be above Hedman (probably some recency bias there) and even Keith who's play has fallen off significantly the last couple years. Drew is either the #2 or #3 d-man of the decade (whether you prefer him to Keith or not)

Holy crap that is bad! I like Caufield but he's not worth Vilardi even in this injured state.

Caufield was rated as a mid to late first round pick to start most initial rankings. He ended up near the top 10 in the final rankings. He was actually picked 14th OA.

Vilardi was top3/top5 ranked skater all year. He fell in the draft to 11th OA due to skating and injury concerns. Which we found out to be major back issues.

Overall Vilardi is the much more highly regarded prospect. Hell even Turcotte is more highly regarded than Caufield. And just remember that when Caufield isn't scoring, he isn't doing much else to help the team as he rarely plays PK or a complete 200 ft game. Vilardi on the other hand plays a complete game and in all situations. I'd rather have that guy in the lineup than a hot/cold scoring winger.

Caufield was actually drafted 15th OA. Can't get more Mid than that.

Martinez has not looked great this year and turns 33 soon. Trade him. Bjornfot takes his place next year, or even after the deadline.

Respectfully disagree about AMart's performance. He has a plus/minus of -1 on a bottom tier team. He was playing 20 minutes a night. Plays on both the Power play and Penalty kill. Skates like the wind. Great on moving the puck up ice. Total team player. Now his goal scoring is down, if that is what you are drawing your opinion on.

He’s been mediocre at best this year and in general I tend to be too positive about player performance.

When is Forbort ever coming back? Can we at least get him to play a couple months and trade him?

You guys remember how unpopular this announcement was among Kings fans?

And let's also not forget reporters who questioned what the hell the Kings were doing.

In a sense, the criticisms of Sutter being a short term coach were correct, as I believe the trash can incident would come in 2015. Say what you want about how his tenure ended, he'll remain as the best head coach in team history.

So Burnside couldn't have been further off there. Things are impossible to predict, of course, but I particularly liked this gem: "Why not, for instance, give John Stevens a chance to turn the Kings around?"

Maybe that team wins anyways, but Stevens was the opposite kind of coach they needed. That group needed R. Lee Ermey, not Mr. Rodgers.
