Also Doughty is still a friggin stud and should be a Norris contender but he's clearly lost some speed too. He was never the fastest skater, but he was also not the type to get repeatedly beat to the corner or caught from behind. Considering the decrease in his playing time, color me worried. Luckily his game is based around IQ not physical gifts I'm sure he'll adjust, but he's not able to just brute force everything.

Could someone give me a quick rundown on Sean Walker? What type of player he is. Does he have offensive upside?

Asking for fantasy reasons. Power play guys are valuable so would like to know if he’s seeing time on any units, etc.

This is tough. He is a MUCH better player than he was last season.

He is used from time to time on the PP. I don't think anyone expects him to be a close to a point per game player. Too early to tell if this is a hot streak or if he is a gem

The Murray-Sutter game was very friendly to defensemen. They constantly had support from their forwards and very rarely had to worry about anything other than retrieving dump ins with forecheckers who were delayed (okay, interfered with) in their pursuit.

Flat out, the forwards have been far less diligent to their defensive duties since Sutter was let go. Folks tend to forget that the attacking dump and chase and cycle game was a terrific way of reducing chances against. Its was a "non-event" form of hockey that reduced the number of scoring opportunities at both ends.

Doughty and the rest of the blue liners are just more exposed than any time since Crawford was coaching, and a lot of people seem to blaming the defensive corps and goaltenders for a lot of plays that are frankly forward errors up ice. Both Doughty and Martinez look more nervous than at any time in their careers. Roy, Walker and Bjornot haven't even played half seasons in the league yet. Hutton and Ryan have looked fairly composed so far, which makes sense since they have both played this kind of hockey before.

Its too early in the process to make any decisions yet, other than acknowledging that Bjornfot should probably be back in Sweden.

In many ways protecting a defenseman in his own end is like protecting a pocket passer in football. If you want an effective outlet pass from a defenseman, you better have blocked well for him, or have a very mobile defenseman who can beat the forecheck with his feet.

Unfortunately the only thing our forwards are blocking is Quick's view and passing lanes... and how damn bad have we been with the puck on King sticks at clearing it! I mean f***, the constant TOs in our end especially 6-10ft from Quick have been maddening

Its from the top of the circles to the blueline, in both zones, where the Kings forwards have been making really poor decisions leading to grade A scoring chances. A lot of folks are ripping on the defensemen, which I think is misguided.

He plays a lot like Slava Voynov.

Not living in the past. Just saying we are still missing someone that can fill the hole he left. Not like he could even come back with all the SJW on this board
I'd like him back as well.

Unfortunately Blake came out and said in the Summer he'll never play another game as an LA King so we can end this discussion.

I think Quick for Schneider can possibly work for a couple of reasons.

Despite his recent performances, JQ is still more likely to be an NHL #2 than CS.

NJ might be willing to up the returns if the deal were broadened to include some pieces like one of Kempe or Iafallo.

I could see a deal like Quick + Tofolli + Iafallo/ Kempe for CS + Will Butcher + Nathan Bastian.

Schneider is a strong LTIR candidate and would probably accept assignments to the AHL while playing out his contract.

from a fan POV if Quick is done or a shell of himself I would rather that be in another uniform so we all remember quick being what he was/is in a King's uniform and not getting pumped for 5+ a night

Small tidbit about Clifford from Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts column:

Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada— Doughty/Tkachuk, the rematch. Brian Burke noticed in the first meeting that Kyle Clifford poked his head in a couple of times to make sure Doughty didn’t need to fight. No wonder teammates like Clifford so much.
