conditional 4th is kinda pathetic tbh but whatever, he's gone. still got a lot of picks in the cupboard to flash if there's an opportunity to move up in either draft

good job by blake on pushing all the old rubbish out this season, not much to complain about here. let lewis have his swan song and let him walk

Then again it would be hilarious to watch all your heads explode when he signs that extension........ :scared:

Didn't get enough for Clifford and Campbell.

Good haul for Toffoli, but maybe even more if Blake waited until today.

Wonder who the Kings sign the off-season...Need some warm bodies.

Lewis is a hole when hes there himself. that hole being filled with literally anything from a prospect looking to get his feet wet, or a waiver wire pickup would be better. If they resign him my head would explode for sure

Again, the hole he creates help get the better draft pick this summer. Its been a long couple of year, but have patience.

Vilardi was sent down?

yes and apparently might stay down there for rest of the year . Seems like TMac and Blake don’t understand each other that much considering Blake doesn’t know how to answer a question about Vilardi. Tmac seems to not give Prokhorkin and Vilardi the minutes they should be getting considering we are not going to make the playoffs and it’s about them learning and getting better . I like TMac and think he’s the right coach for us with his systems and getting most out of our players but his roster decisions sometimes drive me crazy

It's going to be ok either way. We won't have any fun if he stays in Ontario, but, it's going to be ok.

His salary is only $2,000,000 x 2. Very reasonable.

The problem is the what if scenario. What if gets worse as he turns 36 and 37? Buying him out wastes a buy out slot that you wouldn't have to deal with if you didn't trade for him. He's no longer good enough to get the benefit of the doubt. Send him to the AHL, and that's over $1m in space wasted. Keep him as a healthy scratch, and he's a $2m waste of cap. Plus, whether or not he would retire if he left the beach, you can question his motivation. He's not chasing anything.

Buckle in with Carter. He's probably not going anywhere until maybe the 2022 deadline. Unless they buy him out.

Not really an issue considering the Kings could retain the cap hit with all the space they have.
I thought they could have retained on Marinez too, but they didn't. Might be an underlying reason, who knows. I would have liked to see him go, but all in all I think Blake did pretty well.

Im ok with Carter, I have no issue with him. He is probably going to score 20 goals this year. On this team that's amazing.

Curious though why everyone is so concerned with Cap Space on a non contending team with plenty of space. If we did send him to the AHL, which I am not advocating, and lost the space, then what is different for the big club? A rookie cast into a place he should not be?

It's nice to accumulate all of these draft picks but I'd like to see us make a move for an actual player at some point.

Mikey Anderson call-up to play next to Doughty for the rest of the season or too early for that?

I was never advocating that Carter should have been traded, just simply pointing out that his salary is very reasonable to the poster.

I don't think anyone is talking about our cap space, at least I'm not. I'm talking about other team's space and why they wouldn't want to trade for him.

I agree and said the same after the martinez deal. The return was good and all but a soon to be player would have been my preference.

I think Anderson should get a few games...not sure where LA is at on maxing out their call ups though

I think the garbage sale has gone well, slightly better than I expected as I didn’t think Forbort would go. The players we went had ‘some’ value but the guys who didn’t move like Lewis clearly did not. We’ve all bitched about Lewis no longer being an NHL player, so I’m not sure why anyone is surprised that no one wanted him.

Carter is the only asset that could have been moved and wasn’t, however I think most of the rumours were little more than click bait. Carter is a decent pro and I think they want him around so were not actively looking to move him.

It’s gone pretty well at the end of the day, Blake has stockpiled some decent assets and cleared some roster spots. There’s no way he uses 20+ picks over next 2 drafts so I fully expect him to move up where he can and go for quality over quantity. There will be plenty of opportunity as there are teams with weak pipelines that need quantity in terms of those middling picks. So I’m looking for a couple of 4th round picks to become a 3rd rounder and various deals of a similar nature. The hard one will be trying to turn the picks into an extra 1st, that may still require a summer salary dump. That’s one I can live with if it’s no more than 2 years and it’s an otherwise good pro coming our way.

The rebuild continues to be on track.

Forbort trade conditions, per CapFriendly:

2021 conditional 4th round pick* (CGY)

*Conditions: The 2021 4th round pick upgrades to a 2022 3rd round pick if Calgary reaches the 2020 Conference Finals and Forbort plays 50% of the games or if Forbort re-signs with Calgary.
