There is still a need for good NHL players during the rebuild and as they transition out of it. Unfortunately, some of the prospects people are high on might never be as good as Iafallo. There will be busts: it is just the nature of the game.

What kind of "hockey trade" is there for Iafallo? Trading him for more lottery tickets is stupid. He's young enough where he still fits in and he shouldn't be too expensive to re-sign. If his contract is somehow going to be a problem, then there is next year's trade deadline.

maybe in a package for Ghost Bear. Seems like he maybe odd man out in Philadelphia. LA would have to add to Iafallo though

That's the thing: maybe they could use Iafallo as part of a package but what do they have to package outside of picks/prospects that everyone wants to keep?

They need to rebuild a culture and all that crap. Iafallo is one of the few dudes on this team that you can't question his compete level. Would be good to keep him. We are going to want certain players to remain on this team once they are good again because they will be super hungry to win after having to endure this shit show.

"The Kings are 4-15-1 in 20 games since Dec. 21."

Ah yeah must be the trade deadline

""It's easy for people outside of the game to say, 'Hey, they get paid a lot of money, they should be prepared for that,' but they are human beings, there are families involved and there's guys that have been here for a long, long time," McLellan said. "When Cliffy walked out of the room the other day and jumped on the plane the next morning, not that it was unexpected, but it happened, and it was a solemn day for us. You win two Cups with a guy, spend 10 years with him, your kids are going to the playground, your wives are friends. Manhattan Beach, or the South Bay, where we live, it's a pretty tight group and a lot of guys stay there in the summer, so they're year-round teammates and year-round families. A lot of that gets uprooted.""

If only there were some way to stop that...like, not being bottom-5 in the league repeatedly or something.

I get the human element and feel for the dudes that have built their legacies and families here to a degree but come on

Your best players have nothing to worry about and in the case of Clifford, he probably ends up back in LA.

We have had lots of turnover since the cups, seems like a week excuse, but maybe I am just to cold hearted

When the Kings tied for worst in the league back in 07/08 they ended up with 71 points. This season they are on pace for 62. Man this team is bad.

I don't have a problem with the players having those feelings for each other and being sad when guys they've played with forever are traded. The problem in LA for a long time was management had those feelings also, which is a bad bad thing.

Yeah man: it is awful.

We actually had things to be excited about that year too with Kopitar and Brown scoring over 30 goals each. Brown with 311 hits. Patrick O'Sullivan with over 20 goals. The little Brian Boyle goal hot streak right off the bat. Frolov at almost a PPG for what its worth. 12th in the league in goals scored as a team. They lost but it wasn't always boring.

This current team scores far less while not having any young players to get really excited about like we could with the '08 team. God bless him, but Wagner leads this team in hits with 122 at the moment but you'd be hard pressed to remember any of them.

Anyways, I've seen some commentary on here about "Isn't this what you guys wanted?" when complaining about the rebuild. Well, yes, we want the rebuild but you can lose and still be entertaining. I get that the old vets are just playing the string out but anyone that is a fringe NHL'er or not very established should be running through a damn wall out there.

I sort of agree with you but Kopitar and Brown were young first round picks. What young first round picks does LA have playing in the NHL this year. My point is it is hard to expect a different result when the players are much the same. The farm is greatly improved, just not sure when farm to table will happen.

For what it is worth I actually find this years product way more watchable than last years. Although I though the team would have better results than what they do. That has been disappointing.

They don't have any unless you count Kempe who is only in his 3rd full season.

The point is that the '08 team finished tied for last but there were reasons to watch outside of simply being hardwired to do so. This current team might finish with fewer points while also being nauseatingly boring.

I asked last week or two weeks ago and nobody seemed worried but it is a little disconcerting that they are somehow worse than last season.

I would like to see Kempe play with a legit, talented linemate, to see what he can do. Carter does not get anyone the puck...Amadio is an NHL / AHL tweener. Wagner is an ECHL / AHL tweener.
Lizotte is also an NHL / AHL tweener. Grundstrom and Kempe played well about 5 games together last year and that;s when Carl scored his 2 or 3 goals.
They should put them together again - not that Carl is an NHL talent yet...but they played well together.

Every year, Kempe goes to the world's and scores apx 8 pts in 10 games and right there with the Arvidsson's, Forsbergs, etc. Why?
Because he gets to play with talented players.

I think they should try him at LW with Pro at center and Grundstrom on the RW

Kempe just isnt a top 6 talent.. he's the perfect 3rd liner on a talented team, but on this Kings team he's being asked to do too much..

I agree it is concerning they are worse than last year.

Hopefully some of the highly regarded prospects make the jump next year to give more of a routing interest.

My philosophy: don't trade a player unless someone in the system is able to replace.

I don't trust in free agency as far as plugging holes. You end up overspending, when really you should be getting depth.

If you CAN get a star player, great, but don't count on it.

The biggest highlight from the 2007-08 season. The Kings scored five goals in 5 minutes, and 7 seconds, a new club record.

Now they are lucky if they score five goals in 5 games.

Ok, this is the game my faulty memory seized upon. Coach Doug Armstrong fired 3 days later. He he he.

@BigKing

How do you know trading Iafallo would be stupid when we don't know the potential offer? I don't think anyone is suggesting trading him for a bag of pucks. I think he is our most attractive trade piece given his age, contract and production. If he brought back a very good return should Blake turn it down?

You and @YP44 make an interesting point about a hockey trade tho. I hadn't thought about that. Was thinking more picks/prospects. I really like the Ghost suggestion.
